1 A hora pues, oh Israel, escucha los estatutos y los decretos que yo os enseño para que los ejecutéis, a fin de que viváis y entréis a tomar posesión de la tierra que el Señor, el Dios de vuestros padres, os da.

`And now, Israel, hearken unto the statutes, and unto the judgments which I am teaching you to do, so that ye live, and have gone in, and possessed the land which Jehovah God of your fathers is giving to you.

2 N o añadiréis nada a la palabra que yo os mando, ni quitaréis nada de ella, para que guardéis los mandamientos del Señor vuestro Dios que yo os mando.

Ye do not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor diminish from it, to keep the commands of Jehovah your God which I am commanding you.

3 V uestros ojos han visto lo que hizo el Señor en el caso de Baal-peor, pues a todo hombre que siguió a Baal-peor, el Señor tu Dios lo destruyó de en medio de ti.

`Your eyes are seeing that which Jehovah hath done in Baal-Peor, for every man who hath gone after Baal-Peor, Jehovah thy God hath destroyed him from thy midst;

4 M as vosotros, que permanecisteis fieles al Señor vuestro Dios, todos estáis vivos hoy.

and ye who are cleaving to Jehovah your God, alive, all of you, to-day.

5 M irad, yo os he enseñado estatutos y decretos tal como el Señor mi Dios me ordenó, para que los cumpláis en medio de la tierra en que vais a entrar para poseerla.

`See, I have taught you statutes and judgments, as Jehovah my God hath commanded me -- to do so, in the midst of the land whither ye are going in to possess it;

6 A sí que guardad los y poned los por obra, porque esta será vuestra sabiduría y vuestra inteligencia ante los ojos de los pueblos que al escuchar todos estos estatutos, dirán: “Ciertamente esta gran nación es un pueblo sabio e inteligente.”

and ye have kept and done (for it your wisdom and your understanding) before the eyes of the peoples who hear all these statutes, and they have said, Only, a people wise and understanding this great nation.

7 P orque, ¿qué nación grande hay que tenga un dios tan cerca de ella como está el Señor nuestro Dios siempre que le invocamos ?

`For which the great nation that hath God near unto it, as Jehovah our God, in all we have called unto him?

8 ¿ O qué nación grande hay que tenga estatutos y decretos tan justos como toda esta ley que hoy pongo delante de vosotros? Israel en Horeb

and which the great nation which hath righteous statutes and judgments according to all this law which I am setting before you to-day?

9 P or tanto, cuídate y guarda tu alma con diligencia, para que no te olvides de las cosas que tus ojos han visto, y no se aparten de tu corazón todos los días de tu vida; sino que las hagas saber a tus hijos y a tus nietos.

`Only, take heed to thyself, and watch thy soul exceedingly, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they turn aside from thy heart, all days of thy life; and thou hast made them known to thy sons, and to thy sons' sons.

10 R ecuerda el día que estuviste delante del Señor tu Dios en Horeb, cuando el Señor me dijo: “Reúneme el pueblo para que yo les haga oír mis palabras, a fin de que aprendan a temerme todos los días que vivan sobre la tierra y las enseñen a sus hijos.”

`The day when thou hast stood before Jehovah thy God in Horeb -- in Jehovah's saying unto me, Assemble to Me the people, and I cause them to hear My words, so that they learn to fear Me all the days that they are alive on the ground, and their sons they teach; --

11 O s acercasteis, pues, y permanecisteis al pie del monte, y el monte ardía en fuego hasta el mismo cielo: oscuridad, nube y densas tinieblas.

and ye draw near and stand under the mountain, and the mountain is burning with fire unto the heart of the heavens -- darkness, cloud, yea, thick darkness:

12 E ntonces el Señor os habló de en medio del fuego; oísteis su voz, sólo la voz, pero no visteis figura alguna.

`And Jehovah speaketh unto you out of the midst of the fire; a voice of words ye are hearing and a similitude ye are not seeing, only a voice;

13 Y El os declaró su pacto, el cual os mandó poner por obra: esto es, los diez mandamientos, y los escribió en dos tablas de piedra.

and He declareth to you His covenant, which He hath commanded you to do, the Ten Matters, and He writeth them upon two tables of stone.

14 Y el Señor me ordenó en aquella ocasión que os enseñara estatutos y decretos, a fin de que los cumpliérais en la tierra a la cual vais a entrar para poseerla. Advertencia contra la idolatría

`And me hath Jehovah commanded at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, for your doing them in the land whither ye are passing over to possess it;

15 A sí que guardaos bien, ya que no visteis ninguna figura el día en que el Señor os habló en Horeb de en medio del fuego;

and ye have been very watchful of your souls, for ye have not seen any similitude in the day of Jehovah's speaking unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire,

16 n o sea que os corrompáis y hagáis para vosotros una imagen tallada semejante a cualquier figura: semejanza de varón o hembra,

lest ye do corruptly, and have made to you a graven image, a similitude of any figure, a form of male or female --

17 s emejanza de cualquier animal que está en la tierra, semejanza de cualquier ave que vuela en el cielo,

a form of any beast which in the earth -- a form of any winged bird which flieth in the heavens --

18 s emejanza de cualquier animal que se arrastra sobre la tierra, semejanza de cualquier pez que hay en las aguas debajo de la tierra.

a form of any creeping thing on the ground -- a form of any fish which in the waters under the earth;

19 N o sea que levantes los ojos al cielo y veas el sol, la luna, las estrellas y todo el ejército del cielo, y seas impulsado a adorarlos y servirlos, cosas que el Señor tu Dios ha concedido a todos los pueblos debajo de todos los cielos.

`And lest thou lift up thine eyes towards the heavens, and hast seen the sun, and the moon, and the stars, all the host of the heavens, and thou hast been forced, and hast bowed thyself to them, and served them, which Jehovah thy God hath apportioned to all the peoples under the whole heavens.

20 P ero a vosotros el Señor os ha tomado y os ha sacado del horno de hierro, de Egipto, para que fuerais pueblo de su heredad como lo sois ahora.

`And you hath Jehovah taken, and He is bringing you out from the iron furnace, from Egypt, to be to Him for a people -- an inheritance, as this day.

21 Y el Señor se enojó conmigo a causa de vosotros, y juró que yo no pasaría el Jordán, ni entraría en la buena tierra que el Señor tu Dios te da por heredad.

`And Jehovah hath shewed himself wroth with me because of your words, and sweareth to my not passing over the Jordan, and to my not going in unto the good land which Jehovah thy God is giving to thee -- an inheritance;

22 P orque yo moriré en esta tierra, no cruzaré el Jordán; mas vosotros pasaréis y tomaréis posesión de esta buena tierra.

for I am dying in this land; I am not passing over the Jordan, and ye are passing over, and have possessed this good land.

23 G uardaos, pues, no sea que olvidéis el pacto que el Señor vuestro Dios hizo con vosotros, y os hagáis imagen tallada en forma de cualquier cosa que el Señor tu Dios te ha prohibido.

`Take heed to yourselves, lest ye forget the covenant of Jehovah your God, which He hath made with you, and have made to yourselves a graven image, a similitude of anything which Jehovah thy God hath charged thee:

24 P orque el Señor tu Dios es fuego consumidor, un Dios celoso.

for Jehovah thy God is a fire consuming -- a zealous God.

25 C uando hayáis engendrado hijos y nietos, y hayáis permanecido largo tiempo en la tierra, y os corrompáis y hagáis un ídolo en forma de cualquier cosa, y hagáis lo que es malo ante los ojos del Señor vuestro Dios para provocarle a ira,

`When thou begettest sons and sons' sons, and ye have become old in the land, and have done corruptly, and have made a graven image, a similitude of anything, and have done the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, to provoke Him to anger: --

26 p ongo hoy por testigo contra vosotros al cielo y a la tierra, que pronto seréis totalmente exterminados de la tierra donde vais a pasar el Jordán para poseerla. No viviréis por mucho tiempo en ella, sino que seréis totalmente destruidos.

I have caused to testify against you this day the heavens and the earth, that ye do perish utterly hastily from off the land whither ye are passing over the Jordan to possess it; ye do not prolong days upon it, but are utterly destroyed;

27 Y el Señor os dispersará entre los pueblos, y quedaréis pocos en número entre las naciones adonde el Señor os llevará.

and Jehovah hath scattered you among the peoples, and ye have been left few in number among the nations, whither Jehovah leadeth you,

28 A llí serviréis a dioses hechos por manos de hombre, de madera y de piedra, que no ven, ni oyen, ni comen, ni huelen.

and ye have served there gods, work of man's hands, wood and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.

29 P ero desde allí buscarás al Señor tu Dios, y lo hallarás si lo buscas con todo tu corazón y con toda tu alma.

`And -- ye have sought from thence Jehovah thy God, and hast found, when thou seekest Him with all thy heart, and with all thy soul,

30 E n los postreros días, cuando estés angustiado y todas esas cosas te sobrevengan, volverás al Señor tu Dios y escucharás su voz.

in distress to thee, and all these things have found thee, in the latter end of the days, and thou hast turned back unto Jehovah thy God, and hast hearkened to His voice;

31 P ues el Señor tu Dios es Dios compasivo; no te abandonará, ni te destruirá, ni olvidará el pacto que El juró a tus padres.

for a merciful God Jehovah thy God; He doth not fail thee, nor destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers, which He hath sworn to them.

32 C iertamente, pregunta ahora acerca de los tiempos pasados que fueron antes de ti, desde el día en que Dios creó al hombre sobre la tierra; inquiere desde un extremo de los cielos hasta el otro. ¿Se ha hecho cosa tan grande como ésta, o se ha oído algo como esto?

`For, ask, I pray thee, at the former days which have been before thee, from the day that God prepared man on the earth, and from the end of the heavens even unto the end of the heavens, whether there hath been as this great thing -- or hath been heard like it?

33 ¿ Ha oído pueblo alguno la voz de Dios, hablando de en medio del fuego, como tú la has oído, y ha sobrevivido ?

Hath a people heard the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as thou hast heard, thou -- and doth live?

34 ¿ O ha intentado dios alguno tomar para sí una nación de en medio de otra nación, con pruebas, con señales y maravillas, con guerra y mano fuerte y con brazo extendido y hechos aterradores, como el Señor tu Dios hizo por ti en Egipto delante de tus ojos?

Or hath God tried to go in to take to Himself, a nation from the midst of a nation, by trials, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a strong hand, and by a stretched-out arm, and by great terrors -- according to all that Jehovah your God hath done to you, in Egypt, before your eyes?

35 A ti te fue mostrado, para que supieras que el Señor, El es Dios; ningún otro hay fuera de El.

Thou, thou hast been shewn, to know that Jehovah He God; there is none else besides Him.

36 D esde los cielos te hizo oír su voz para disciplinarte; y sobre la tierra te hizo ver su gran fuego, y oíste sus palabras de en medio del fuego.

`From the heavens He hath caused thee to hear His voice, to instruct thee, and on earth He hath shewed thee His great fire, and His words thou hast heard out of the midst of the fire.

37 P orque El amó a tus padres, por eso escogió a su descendencia después de ellos; y personalmente te sacó de Egipto con su gran poder,

`And because that He hath loved thy fathers, He doth also fix on their seed after them, and doth bring thee out, in His presence, by His great power, from Egypt:

38 e xpulsando delante de ti naciones más grandes y más poderosas que tú, para hacerte entrar y darte la tierra de ellos por heredad, como sucede hoy.

to dispossess nations greater and stronger than thou, from thy presence, to bring thee in to give to thee their land -- an inheritance, as this day.

39 P or tanto, reconoce hoy y reflexiona en tu corazón, que el Señor es Dios arriba en los cielos y abajo en la tierra; no hay otro.

`And thou hast known to-day, and hast turned back unto thy heart, that Jehovah He God, in the heavens above, and on the earth beneath -- there is none else;

40 A sí pues, guardarás sus estatutos y sus mandamientos que yo te ordeno hoy, a fin de que te vaya bien a ti y a tus hijos después de ti, y para que prolongues tus días sobre la tierra que el Señor tu Dios te da para siempre. Las ciudades de refugio

and thou hast kept His statutes and His commands which I am commanding thee to-day, so that it is well to thee, and to thy sons after thee, and so that thou prolongest days on the ground which Jehovah thy God is giving to thee -- all the days.'

41 E ntonces Moisés designó tres ciudades al otro lado del Jordán, al oriente,

Then Moses separateth three cities beyond the Jordan, towards the sun-rising,

42 p ara que huyera allí el homicida que involuntariamente hubiera matado a su vecino sin haber tenido enemistad contra él en el pasado; y huyendo a una de estas ciudades, salvara su vida:

for the fleeing thither of the man-slayer, who slayeth his neighbour unknowingly, and he is not hating him heretofore, and he hath fled unto one of these cities, and he hath lived:

43 B eser en el desierto, sobre la meseta, para los rubenitas, y Ramot en Galaad para los gaditas, y Golán en Basán para los de Manasés.

Bezer, in the wilderness, in the land of the plain, of the Reubenite; and Ramoth, in Gilead, of the Gadite; and Golan, in Bashan, of the Manassahite.

44 E sta es, pues, la ley que Moisés puso delante de los hijos de Israel.

And this the law which Moses hath set before the sons of Israel;

45 E stos son los testimonios, los estatutos y las ordenanzas que Moisés dio a los hijos de Israel cuando salieron de Egipto,

these the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which Moses hath spoken unto the sons of Israel, in their coming out of Egypt,

46 a l otro lado del Jordán en el valle frente a Bet-peor, en la tierra de Sehón, rey de los amorreos, que habitaba en Hesbón, a quien Moisés y los hijos de Israel derrotaron cuando salieron de Egipto.

beyond the Jordan, in the valley over-against Beth-Peor, in the land of Sihon, king of the Amorite, who is dwelling in Heshbon, whom Moses and the sons of Israel have smitten, in their coming out of Egypt,

47 Y tomaron posesión de su tierra y de la tierra de Og, rey de Basán, los dos reyes de los amorreos que estaban al otro lado del Jordán hacia el oriente,

and they possess his land, and the land of Og king of Bashan, two kings of the Amorite who beyond the Jordan, the sun-rising;

48 d esde Aroer, que está a la orilla del valle del Arnón, hasta el monte Sion, es decir, Hermón,

from Aroer, which by the edge of the brook Arnon, even unto mount Sion, which Hermon --

49 c on todo el Arabá al otro lado del Jordán, al oriente, hasta el mar del Arabá, al pie de las laderas del Pisga.

and all the plain beyond the Jordan eastward, even unto the sea of the plain, under the springs of Pisgah.
