1 P orque quiero que sepáis qué gran lucha tengo por vosotros y por los que están en Laodicea, y por todos los que no me han visto en persona,

For I wish you to know how great a conflict I have for you and those in Laodicea, and as many as have not seen my face in the flesh,

2 p ara que sean alentados sus corazones, y unidos en amor, alcancen todas las riquezas que proceden de una plena seguridad de comprensión, resultando en un verdadero conocimiento del misterio de Dios, es decir, de Cristo,

that their hearts may be comforted, being united in love, and to all riches of the full assurance of the understanding, to the full knowledge of the secret of the God and Father, and of the Christ,

3 e n quien están escondidos todos los tesoros de la sabiduría y del conocimiento.

in whom are all the treasures of the wisdom and the knowledge hid,

4 E sto lo digo para que nadie os engañe con razonamientos persuasivos.

and this I say, that no one may beguile you in enticing words,

5 P orque aunque estoy ausente en el cuerpo, sin embargo estoy con vosotros en espíritu, regocijándome al ver vuestra buena disciplina y la estabilidad de vuestra fe en Cristo.

for if even in the flesh I am absent -- yet in the spirit I am with you, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in regard to Christ;

6 P or tanto, de la manera que recibisteis a Cristo Jesús el Señor, así andad en El;

as, then, ye did receive Christ Jesus the Lord, in him walk ye,

7 f irmemente arraigados y edificados en El y confirmados en vuestra fe, tal como fuisteis instruidos, rebosando de gratitud. Jesucristo: Dios, salvador y vencedor

being rooted and built up in him, and confirmed in the faith, as ye were taught -- abounding in it in thanksgiving.

8 M irad que nadie os haga cautivos por medio de su filosofía y vanas sutilezas, según la tradición de los hombres, conforme a los principios elementales del mundo y no según Cristo.

See that no one shall be carrying you away as spoil through the philosophy and vain deceit, according to the deliverance of men, according to the rudiments of the world, and not according to Christ,

9 P orque toda la plenitud de la Deidad reside corporalmente en El,

because in him doth tabernacle all the fulness of the Godhead bodily,

10 y habéis sido hechos completos en El, que es la cabeza sobre todo poder y autoridad;

and ye are in him made full, who is the head of all principality and authority,

11 e n El también fuisteis circuncidados con una circuncisión no hecha por manos, al quitar el cuerpo de la carne mediante la circuncisión de Cristo;

in whom also ye were circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, in the putting off of the body of the sins of the flesh in the circumcision of the Christ,

12 h abiendo sido sepultados con El en el bautismo, en el cual también habéis resucitado con El por la fe en la acción del poder de Dios, que le resucitó de entre los muertos.

being buried with him in the baptism, in which also ye rose with through the faith of the working of God, who did raise him out of the dead.

13 Y cuando estabais muertos en vuestros delitos y en la incircuncisión de vuestra carne, os dio vida juntamente con El, habiéndonos perdonado todos los delitos,

And you -- being dead in the trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh -- He made alive together with him, having forgiven you all the trespasses,

14 h abiendo cancelado el documento de deuda que consistía en decretos contra nosotros y que nos era adverso, y lo ha quitado de en medio, clavándolo en la cruz.

having blotted out the handwriting in the ordinances that is against us, that was contrary to us, and he hath taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross;

15 Y habiendo despojado a los poderes y autoridades, hizo de ellos un espectáculo público, triunfando sobre ellos por medio de El. Advertencias contra mandamientos de hombres

having stripped the principalities and the authorities, he made a shew of them openly -- having triumphed over them in it.

16 P or tanto, que nadie se constituya en vuestro juez con respecto a comida o bebida, o en cuanto a día de fiesta, o luna nueva, o día de reposo;

Let no one, then, judge you in eating or in drinking, or in respect of a feast, or of a new moon, or of sabbaths,

17 c osas que sólo son sombra de lo que ha de venir, pero el cuerpo pertenece a Cristo.

which are a shadow of the coming things, and the body of the Christ;

18 N adie os defraude de vuestro premio deleitándose en la humillación de sí mismo y en la adoración de los ángeles, basándose en las visiones que ha visto, hinchado sin causa por su mente carnal,

let no one beguile you of your prize, delighting in humble-mindedness and worship of the messengers, intruding into the things he hath not seen, being vainly puffed up by the mind of his flesh,

19 p ero no asiéndose a la Cabeza, de la cual todo el cuerpo, nutrido y unido por las coyunturas y ligamentos, crece con un crecimiento que es de Dios.

and not holding the head, from which all the body -- through the joints and bands gathering supply, and being knit together -- may increase with the increase of God.

20 S i habéis muerto con Cristo a los principios elementales del mundo, ¿por qué, como si aún vivierais en el mundo, os sometéis a preceptos tales como:

If, then, ye did die with the Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances?

21 n o manipules, no gustes, no toques

-- thou mayest not touch, nor taste, nor handle --

22 ( todos los cuales se refieren a cosas destinadas a perecer con el uso ), según los preceptos y enseñanzas de los hombres ?

which are all for destruction with the using, after the commands and teachings of men,

23 T ales cosas tienen a la verdad, la apariencia de sabiduría en una religión humana, en la humillación de sí mismo y en el trato severo del cuerpo, pero carecen de valor alguno contra los apetitos de la carne.

which are, indeed, having a matter of wisdom in will-worship, and humble-mindedness, and neglecting of body -- not in any honour, unto a satisfying of the flesh.
