1 P ero no habrá más lobreguez para la que estaba en angustia. Como en tiempos pasados El trató con desprecio a la tierra de Zabulón y a la tierra de Neftalí, pero después la hará gloriosa por el camino del mar al otro lado del Jordán, Galilea de los gentiles.

As the former time made light The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, So the latter hath honoured the way of the sea, Beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations.

2 E l pueblo que andaba en tinieblas ha visto gran luz; a los que habitaban en tierra de sombra de muerte, la luz ha resplandecido sobre ellos.

The people who are walking in darkness Have seen a great light, Dwellers in a land of death-shade, Light hath shone upon them.

3 M ultiplicaste la nación, aumentaste su alegría; se alegran en tu presencia como con la alegría de la cosecha, como se regocijan los hombres cuando se reparten el botín.

Thou hast multiplied the nation, Thou hast made great its joy, They have joyed before Thee as the joy in harvest, As rejoice in their apportioning spoil.

4 P orque tú quebrarás el yugo de su carga, el báculo de sus hombros, y la vara de su opresor, como en la batalla de Madián.

Because the yoke of its burden, And the staff of its shoulder, the rod of its exactor, Thou hast broken as the day of Midian.

5 P orque toda bota que calza el guerrero en el fragor de la batalla, y el manto revolcado en sangre, serán para quemar, combustible para el fuego.

For every battle of a warrior with rushing, and raiment rolled in blood, And it hath been for burning -- fuel of fire.

6 P orque un niño nos ha nacido, un hijo nos ha sido dado, y la soberanía reposará sobre sus hombros; y se llamará su nombre Admirable Consejero, Dios Poderoso, Padre Eterno, Príncipe de Paz.

For a Child hath been born to us, A Son hath been given to us, And the princely power is on his shoulder, And He doth call his name Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Father of Eternity, Prince of Peace.

7 E l aumento de su soberanía y de la paz no tendrán fin sobre el trono de David y sobre su reino, para afianzarlo y sostenerlo con el derecho y la justicia desde entonces y para siempre. El celo del Señor de los ejércitos hará esto. Ira de Dios contra Israel

To the increase of the princely power, And of peace, there is no end, On the throne of David, and on his kingdom, To establish it, and to support it, In judgment and in righteousness, Henceforth, even unto the age, The zeal of Jehovah of Hosts doth this.

8 E l Señor envía mensaje contra Jacob, y cae sobre Israel.

A word hath the Lord sent into Jacob, And it hath fallen in Israel.

9 Y todo el pueblo lo sabe, es decir, Efraín y los habitantes de Samaria, los que con arrogancia y altivez de corazón afirman:

And the people have known -- all of it, Ephraim, and the inhabitant of Samaria, In pride and in greatness of heart, saying,

10 L os ladrillos han caído, pero con piedras labradas reedificaremos; los sicómoros han sido cortados, pero con cedros los reemplazaremos.

`Bricks have fallen, and hewn work we build, Sycamores have been cut down, and cedars we renew.'

11 P or tanto el Señor levanta adversarios de Rezín contra ellos, e incita a sus enemigos,

And Jehovah setteth the adversaries of Rezin on high above him, And his enemies he joineth together,

12 l os arameos en el oriente y los filisteos en el occidente, que devoran a Israel a boca llena. Con todo eso no se aparta su ira, y aún está su mano extendida.

Aram from before, and Philistia from behind, And they devour Israel with the whole mouth. With all this not turned back hath His anger, And still His hand is stretched out.

13 P ero el pueblo no ha vuelto a Aquel que los hirió, no han buscado al Señor de los ejércitos.

And the people hath not turned back unto Him who is smiting it, And Jehovah of Hosts they have not sought.

14 E l Señor, pues, corta de Israel la cabeza y la cola, la hoja de palmera y el junco en un mismo día.

And Jehovah cutteth off from Israel head and tail, Branch and reed -- the same day,

15 E l anciano y venerable es la cabeza, y el profeta que enseña la mentira, es la cola.

Elder, and accepted of face, he the head, Prophet, teacher of falsehood, he the tail.

16 P orque los que guían a este pueblo lo extravían; y los guiados por ellos son confundidos.

And the eulogists of this people are causing to err, And its eulogised ones are consumed.

17 P or eso no se complace el Señor en sus jóvenes, ni se compadece de sus huérfanos ni de sus viudas; porque todos ellos son impíos y malhechores, y toda boca habla necedades. Con todo eso no se aparta su ira, y aún está su mano extendida.

Therefore, over its young men the Lord rejoiceth not, And its orphans, and its widows He pitieth not, For every one profane, and an evil doer, And every mouth is speaking folly. With all this not turned back hath His anger, And still His hand is stretched out.

18 P orque arde como fuego la impiedad, zarzas y espinos consume, y enciende la espesura del bosque; como remolino suben en columna de humo.

For burned as a fire hath wickedness, Brier and thorn it devoureth, And it kindleth in thickets of the forest, And they lift themselves up, an exaltation of smoke!

19 P or el furor del Señor de los ejércitos es quemada la tierra, y el pueblo es como combustible para el fuego; el hombre no perdona a su hermano.

In the wrath of Jehovah of Hosts Hath the land been consumed, And the people is as fuel of fire; A man on his brother hath no pity,

20 C ortan de un tajo lo que está a la derecha, pero aún tienen hambre, y comen lo que está a la izquierda, pero no se sacian; cada cual come la carne de su propio brazo.

And cutteth down on the right, and hath been hungry, And he devoureth on the left, And they have not been satisfied, Each the flesh of his own arm they devour.

21 M anasés devora a Efraín, y Efraín a Manasés, y ambos están contra Judá. Con todo eso no se ha apartado su ira, y aún está su mano extendida.

Manasseh -- Ephraim, and Ephraim -- Manasseh, Together they against Judah, With all this not turned back hath His anger. And still His hand is stretched out!
