1 Y el hombre conoció a Eva, su mujer, y ella concibió y dio a luz a Caín, y dijo: He adquirido varón con la ayuda del Señor.

And the man knew Eve his wife, and she conceiveth and beareth Cain, and saith, `I have gotten a man by Jehovah;'

2 D espués dio a luz a su hermano Abel. Y Abel fue pastor de ovejas y Caín fue labrador de la tierra.

and she addeth to bear his brother, even Abel. And Abel is feeding a flock, and Cain hath been servant of the ground.

3 Y aconteció que al transcurrir el tiempo, Caín trajo al Señor una ofrenda del fruto de la tierra.

And it cometh to pass at the end of days that Cain bringeth from the fruit of the ground a present to Jehovah;

4 T ambién Abel, por su parte, trajo de los primogénitos de sus ovejas y de la grosura de los mismos. Y el Señor miró con agrado a Abel y a su ofrenda,

and Abel, he hath brought, he also, from the female firstlings of his flock, even from their fat ones; and Jehovah looketh unto Abel and unto his present,

5 p ero a Caín y su ofrenda no miró con agrado. Y Caín se enojó mucho y su semblante se demudó.

and unto Cain and unto his present He hath not looked; and it is very displeasing to Cain, and his countenance is fallen.

6 E ntonces el Señor dijo a Caín: ¿Por qué estás enojado, y por qué se ha demudado tu semblante?

And Jehovah saith unto Cain, `Why hast thou displeasure? and why hath thy countenance fallen?

7 S i haces bien, ¿no serás aceptado? Y si no haces bien, el pecado yace a la puerta y te codicia, pero tú debes dominarlo.

Is there not, if thou dost well, acceptance? and if thou dost not well, at the opening a sin-offering is crouching, and unto thee its desire, and thou rulest over it.'

8 Y Caín dijo a su hermano Abel: vayamos al campo. Y aconteció que cuando estaban en el campo, Caín se levantó contra su hermano Abel y lo mató. La maldición de Caín

And Cain saith unto Abel his brother, and it cometh to pass in their being in the field, that Cain riseth up against Abel his brother, and slayeth him.

9 E ntonces el Señor dijo a Caín: ¿Dónde está tu hermano Abel ? Y él respondió: No sé. ¿Soy yo acaso guardián de mi hermano?

And Jehovah saith unto Cain, `Where Abel thy brother?' and he saith, `I have not known; my brother's keeper -- I?'

10 Y El le dijo: ¿Qué has hecho? La voz de la sangre de tu hermano clama a mí desde la tierra.

And He saith, `What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood is crying unto Me from the ground;

11 A hora pues, maldito eres de la tierra, que ha abierto su boca para recibir de tu mano la sangre de tu hermano.

and now, cursed thou from the ground, which hath opened her mouth to receive the blood of thy brother from thy hand;

12 C uando cultives el suelo, no te dará más su vigor; vagabundo y errante serás en la tierra.

when thou tillest the ground, it doth not add to give its strength to thee -- a wanderer, even a trembling one, thou art in the earth.'

13 Y Caín dijo al Señor: Mi castigo es demasiado grande para soportarlo.

And Cain saith unto Jehovah, `Greater is my punishment than to be borne;

14 H e aquí, me has arrojado hoy de la faz de la tierra, y de tu presencia me esconderé, y seré vagabundo y errante en la tierra; y sucederá que cualquiera que me halle me matará.

lo, Thou hast driven me to-day from off the face of the ground, and from Thy face I am hid; and I have been a wanderer, even a trembling one, in the earth, and it hath been -- every one finding me doth slay me.'

15 E ntonces el Señor le dijo: No será así; pues cualquiera que mate a Caín, siete veces sufrirá venganza. Y puso el Señor una señal sobre Caín, para que cualquiera que lo hallase no lo matara. Descendientes de Caín

And Jehovah saith to him, `Therefore -- of any slayer of Cain sevenfold it is required;' and Jehovah setteth to Cain a token that none finding him doth slay him.

16 Y salió Caín de la presencia del Señor, y se estableció en la tierra de Nod, al oriente del Edén.

And Cain goeth out from before Jehovah, and dwelleth in the land, moving about east of Eden;

17 Y conoció Caín a su mujer, y ella concibió y dio a luz a Enoc; y edificó una ciudad y la llamó Enoc, como el nombre de su hijo.

and Cain knoweth his wife, and she conceiveth, and beareth Enoch; and he is building a city, and he calleth the name of the city, according to the name of his son -- Enoch.

18 A Enoc le nació Irad, Irad engendró a Mehujael, Mehujael engendró a Metusael, y Metusael engendró a Lamec.

And born to Enoch is Irad; and Irad hath begotten Mehujael; and Mehujael hath begotten Methusael; and Methusael hath begotten Lamech.

19 L amec tomó para sí dos mujeres; el nombre de una era Ada, y el nombre de la otra, Zila.

And Lamech taketh to himself two wives, the name of the one Adah, and the name of the second Zillah.

20 Y Ada dio a luz a Jabal, el cual fue padre de los que habitan en tiendas y tienen ganado.

And Adah beareth Jabal, he hath been father of those inhabiting tents and purchased possessions;

21 S u hermano se llamaba Jubal, el cual fue padre de todos los que tocan la lira y la flauta.

and the name of his brother Jubal, he hath been father of every one handling harp and organ.

22 Y Zila a su vez dio a luz a Tubal-caín, forjador de todo utensilio de bronce y de hierro; y la hermana de Tubal-caín era Naama.

And Zillah she also bare Tubal-Cain, an instructor of every artificer in brass and iron; and a sister of Tubal-Cain Naamah.

23 Y Lamec dijo a sus mujeres: Ada y Zila, oíd mi voz; mujeres de Lamec, prestad oído a mis palabras, pues he dado muerte a un hombre por haberme herido, y a un muchacho por haberme pegado.

And Lamech saith to his wives: -- `Adah and Zillah, hear my voice; Wives of Lamech, give ear my saying: For a man I have slain for my wound, Even a young man for my hurt;

24 S i siete veces es vengado Caín, entonces Lamec lo será setenta veces siete. Nacimiento de Set

For sevenfold is required for Cain, And for Lamech seventy and sevenfold.'

25 Y conoció Adán otra vez a su mujer; y ella dio a luz un hijo y le puso por nombre Set, porque, dijo ella: Dios me ha dado otro hijo en lugar de Abel, pues Caín lo mató.

And Adam again knoweth his wife, and she beareth a son, and calleth his name Seth, `for God hath appointed for me another seed instead of Abel:' for Cain had slain him.

26 A Set le nació también un hijo y le puso por nombre Enós. Por ese tiempo comenzaron los hombres a invocar el nombre del Señor.

And to Seth, to him also a son hath been born, and he calleth his name Enos; then a beginning was made of preaching in the name of Jehovah.
