1 O íd esta palabra que yo pronuncio como lamentación sobre vosotros, casa de Israel.

Hear this word that I am bearing to you, A lamentation, O house of Israel:

2 H a caído, no volverá a levantarse la virgen de Israel; abandonada yace en su tierra, no hay quien la levante.

`Fallen, not again to rise, hath the virgin of Israel, Left on her land -- she hath no raiser up.'

3 P orque así dice el Señor Dios: La ciudad que sale con mil, se quedará con cien; y la que sale con cien, se quedará con diez, en la casa de Israel.

For thus said the Lord Jehovah: The city that is going out a thousand, Doth leave an hundred, And that which is going out an hundred, Doth leave ten to the house of Israel.

4 P orque así dice el Señor a la casa de Israel: Buscadme, y viviréis.

For thus said Jehovah to the house of Israel: Seek ye Me, and live,

5 P ero no busquéis a Betel, ni vayáis a Gilgal, ni paséis a Beerseba; porque ciertamente Gilgal será llevada cautiva, y Betel caerá en desgracia.

And seek not Beth-El, and Gilgal enter not, And Beer-Sheba pass not through, For Gilgal doth utterly remove, And Beth-El doth become vanity.

6 B uscad al Señor y viviréis, no sea que El prorrumpa como fuego, oh casa de José, y consuma a Betel sin que haya quien lo apague;

Seek ye Jehovah, and live, Lest He prosper as fire the house of Joseph, And it hath consumed, And there is no quencher for Beth-El.

7 c onsuma a los que convierten el juicio en ajenjo y echan por tierra la justicia.

Ye who are turning to wormwood judgment, And righteousness to the earth have put down,

8 E l que hizo las Pléyades y el Orión, cambia las densas tinieblas en aurora, y hace oscurecer el día en noche; el que llama a las aguas del mar, y las derrama sobre la faz de la tierra: el Señor es su nombre.

The maker of Kimah and Kesil, And the turner to morning of death-shade, And day night He hath made dark, Who is calling to the waters of the sea, And poureth them on the face of the earth, Jehovah His name;

9 E l es quien desencadena destrucción sobre el fuerte, y hace que la ruina venga sobre la fortaleza.

Who is brightening up the spoiled against the strong, And the spoiled against a fortress cometh.

10 E llos odian en la puerta al que reprende, y aborrecen al que habla con integridad.

They have hated a reprover in the gate, And a plain speaker they abominate.

11 P or tanto, ya que imponéis fuertes impuestos sobre el pobre y exigís de él tributo de grano, las casas de piedra labrada que habéis edificado, no las habitaréis; habéis plantado viñas escogidas, pero no beberéis su vino.

Therefore, because of your trampling on the poor, And the tribute of corn ye take from him, Houses of hewn work ye have built, And ye do not dwell in them, Desirable vineyards ye have planted, And ye do not drink their wine.

12 P ues yo sé que muchas son vuestras transgresiones y graves vuestros pecados: oprimís al justo, aceptáis soborno y rechazáis a los pobres en la puerta.

For I have known -- many your transgressions, And mighty your sins, Adversaries of the righteous, taking ransoms, And the needy in the gate ye turned aside.

13 P or tanto, el prudente se calla en ese tiempo, pues es tiempo malo.

Therefore is the wise at that time silent, For an evil time it.

14 B uscad lo bueno y no lo malo, para que viváis; y así sea con vosotros el Señor, Dios de los ejércitos, tal como habéis dicho.

Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live, And it is so; Jehovah, God of Hosts, with you, as ye said.

15 A borreced el mal, amad el bien, y estableced la justicia en la puerta. Tal vez el Señor, Dios de los ejércitos, sea misericordioso con el remanente de José.

Hate evil, and love good, And set up judgment in the gate, It may be Jehovah, God of Hosts, doth pity the remnant of Joseph.

16 P or tanto, así dice el Señor, el Señor Dios de los ejércitos: En todas las plazas hay llanto, y en todas las calles dicen: ¡Ay! ¡Ay! Llaman a duelo al labrador, y a lamentación a los que saben plañir.

Therefore, thus said Jehovah, God of Hosts, the Lord, In all broad places lamentation, And in all out-places they say, `Alas, alas,' And called the husbandman to mourning, And to lamentation the skilful of wailing.

17 E n todas las viñas habrá llanto, porque pasaré por en medio de ti —dice el Señor.

And in all vineyards lamentation, For I pass into thy midst, said Jehovah.

18 ¡ Ay de los que ansían el día del Señor! ¿De qué os servirá el día del Señor ? Será tinieblas, y no luz;

Ho, ye who are desiring the day of Jehovah, Why this to you -- the day of Jehovah? It is darkness, and not light,

19 c omo cuando uno huye de un león, y se encuentra con un oso, o va a casa, apoya la mano en la pared, y lo muerde una culebra.

As one fleeth from the face of the lion, And the bear hath met him, And he hath come in to the house, And hath leant his hand on the wall, And the serpent hath bitten him.

20 ¿ No será tinieblas el día del Señor, y no luz, oscuridad, y no resplandor ?

Is not the day of Jehovah darkness and not light, Even thick darkness that hath no brightness?

21 A borrezco, desprecio vuestras fiestas, tampoco me agradan vuestras asambleas solemnes.

I have hated -- I have loathed your festivals, And I am not refreshed by your restraints.

22 A unque me ofrezcáis holocaustos y vuestras ofrendas de grano, no los aceptaré; ni miraré a las ofrendas de paz de vuestros animales cebados.

For though ye cause burnt-offerings and your presents to ascend to Me, I am not pleased, And the peace-offering of your fatlings I behold not.

23 A parta de mí el ruido de tus cánticos, pues no escucharé siquiera la música de tus arpas.

Turn aside from Me the noise of thy songs, Yea, the praise of thy psaltery I hear not.

24 P ero corra el juicio como las aguas y la justicia como corriente inagotable.

And roll on as waters doth judgment, And righteousness as a perennial stream.

25 ¿ Acaso me ofrecisteis sacrificios y ofrendas de cereal por cuarenta años en el desierto, oh casa de Israel ?

Sacrifices and offering did ye bring nigh to Me, In a wilderness forty years, O house of Israel?

26 M ás bien, llevasteis a Sicut, vuestro rey, y a Quiyún, vuestros ídolos, la estrella de vuestros dioses que hicisteis para vosotros.

And ye bare Succoth your king, and Chiun your images, The star of your god, that ye made for yourselves.

27 Y o os haré, pues, deportar más allá de Damasco —dice el Señor, cuyo nombre es Dios de los ejércitos.

And I removed you beyond Damascus, Said Jehovah, God of Hosts His name.
