1 O uça esta palavra, ó nação de Israel, este lamento acerca de vocês:

Hear this word that I am bearing to you, A lamentation, O house of Israel:

2 “ Caída para nunca mais se levantar, está a virgem Israel. Abandonada em sua própria terra, não há quem a levante”.

`Fallen, not again to rise, hath the virgin of Israel, Left on her land -- she hath no raiser up.'

3 A ssim diz o Soberano, o Senhor: “A cidade que mandar mil para o exército ficará com cem; e a que mandar cem ficará com dez”.

For thus said the Lord Jehovah: The city that is going out a thousand, Doth leave an hundred, And that which is going out an hundred, Doth leave ten to the house of Israel.

4 A ssim diz o Senhor à nação de Israel: “Busquem-me e terão vida;

For thus said Jehovah to the house of Israel: Seek ye Me, and live,

5 n ão busquem Betel, não vão a Gilgal, não façam peregrinação a Berseba. Pois Gilgal certamente irá para o exílio, e Betel será reduzida a nada”.

And seek not Beth-El, and Gilgal enter not, And Beer-Sheba pass not through, For Gilgal doth utterly remove, And Beth-El doth become vanity.

6 B usquem o Senhor e terão vida, do contrário, ele irromperá como um fogo entre os descendentes de José, e devastará a cidade de Betel, e não haverá ninguém ali para apagá-lo.

Seek ye Jehovah, and live, Lest He prosper as fire the house of Joseph, And it hath consumed, And there is no quencher for Beth-El.

7 V ocês estão transformando o direito em amargura e atirando a justiça ao chão,

Ye who are turning to wormwood judgment, And righteousness to the earth have put down,

8 ( aquele que fez as Plêiades e o Órion, que faz da escuridão, alvorada e do dia, noite escura, que chama as águas do mar e as espalha sobre a face da terra; Senhor é o seu nome.

The maker of Kimah and Kesil, And the turner to morning of death-shade, And day night He hath made dark, Who is calling to the waters of the sea, And poureth them on the face of the earth, Jehovah His name;

9 E le traz repentina destruição sobre a fortaleza, e a destruição vem sobre a cidade fortificada),

Who is brightening up the spoiled against the strong, And the spoiled against a fortress cometh.

10 v ocês odeiam aquele que defende a justiça no tribunal e detestam aquele que fala a verdade.

They have hated a reprover in the gate, And a plain speaker they abominate.

11 V ocês oprimem o pobre e o forçam a dar-lhes o trigo. Por isso, embora vocês tenham construído mansões de pedra, nelas não morarão; embora tenham plantado vinhas verdejantes, não beberão do seu vinho.

Therefore, because of your trampling on the poor, And the tribute of corn ye take from him, Houses of hewn work ye have built, And ye do not dwell in them, Desirable vineyards ye have planted, And ye do not drink their wine.

12 P ois eu sei quantas são as suas transgressões e quão grandes são os seus pecados. Vocês oprimem o justo, recebem suborno e impedem que se faça justiça ao pobre nos tribunais.

For I have known -- many your transgressions, And mighty your sins, Adversaries of the righteous, taking ransoms, And the needy in the gate ye turned aside.

13 P or isso o prudente se cala em tais situações, pois é tempo de desgraças.

Therefore is the wise at that time silent, For an evil time it.

14 B usquem o bem, não o mal, para que tenham vida. Então o Senhor, o Deus dos Exércitos, estará com vocês, conforme vocês afirmam.

Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live, And it is so; Jehovah, God of Hosts, with you, as ye said.

15 O deiem o mal, amem o bem; estabeleçam a justiça nos tribunais. Talvez o Senhor, o Deus dos Exércitos, tenha misericórdia do remanescente de José.

Hate evil, and love good, And set up judgment in the gate, It may be Jehovah, God of Hosts, doth pity the remnant of Joseph.

16 P ortanto, assim diz o Senhor, o Deus dos Exércitos, o Soberano: “Haverá lamentação em todas as praças e gritos de angústia em todas as ruas. Os lavradores serão convocados para chorar e os pranteadores para se lamentar.

Therefore, thus said Jehovah, God of Hosts, the Lord, In all broad places lamentation, And in all out-places they say, `Alas, alas,' And called the husbandman to mourning, And to lamentation the skilful of wailing.

17 H averá lamentos em todas as vinhas, pois passarei no meio de vocês”, diz o Senhor. O Dia do Senhor

And in all vineyards lamentation, For I pass into thy midst, said Jehovah.

18 A i de vocês que anseiam pelo dia do Senhor! O que pensam vocês do dia do Senhor ? Será dia de trevas, não de luz.

Ho, ye who are desiring the day of Jehovah, Why this to you -- the day of Jehovah? It is darkness, and not light,

19 S erá como se um homem fugisse de um leão e encontrasse um urso; como alguém que entrasse em sua casa e, encostando a mão na parede, fosse picado por uma serpente.

As one fleeth from the face of the lion, And the bear hath met him, And he hath come in to the house, And hath leant his hand on the wall, And the serpent hath bitten him.

20 O dia do Senhor será de trevas e não de luz. Uma escuridão total, sem um raio de claridade.

Is not the day of Jehovah darkness and not light, Even thick darkness that hath no brightness?

21 “ Eu odeio e desprezo as suas festas religiosas; não suporto as suas assembléias solenes.

I have hated -- I have loathed your festivals, And I am not refreshed by your restraints.

22 M esmo que vocês me tragam holocaustos e ofertas de cereal, isso não me agradará. Mesmo que me tragam as melhores ofertas de comunhão, não darei a menor atenção a elas.

For though ye cause burnt-offerings and your presents to ascend to Me, I am not pleased, And the peace-offering of your fatlings I behold not.

23 A fastem de mim o som das suas canções e a música das suas liras.

Turn aside from Me the noise of thy songs, Yea, the praise of thy psaltery I hear not.

24 E m vez disso, corra a retidão como um rio, a justiça como um ribeiro perene!”

And roll on as waters doth judgment, And righteousness as a perennial stream.

25 “ Foi a mim que vocês trouxeram sacrifícios e ofertas durante os quarenta anos no deserto, ó nação de Israel?

Sacrifices and offering did ye bring nigh to Me, In a wilderness forty years, O house of Israel?

26 N ão! Vocês carregaram o seu rei Sicute, e Quium, imagens dos deuses astrais, que vocês fizeram para si mesmos.

And ye bare Succoth your king, and Chiun your images, The star of your god, that ye made for yourselves.

27 P or isso eu os mandarei para o exílio, para além de Damasco”, diz o Senhor; Deus dos Exércitos é o seu nome.

And I removed you beyond Damascus, Said Jehovah, God of Hosts His name.
