1 C atorze anos depois, subi novamente a Jerusalém, dessa vez com Barnabé, levando também Tito comigo.

Then, after fourteen years again I went up to Jerusalem with Barnabas, having taken with me also Titus;

2 F ui para lá por causa de uma revelação e expus diante deles o evangelho que prego entre os gentios, fazendo-o, porém, em particular aos que pareciam mais influentes, para não correr ou ter corrido inutilmente.

and I went up by revelation, and did submit to them the good news that I preach among the nations, and privately to those esteemed, lest in vain I might run or did run;

3 M as nem mesmo Tito, que estava comigo, foi obrigado a circuncidar-se, apesar de ser grego.

but not even Titus, who with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised --

4 E ssa questão foi levantada porque alguns falsos irmãos infiltraram-se em nosso meio para espionar a liberdade que temos em Cristo Jesus e nos reduzir à escravidão.

and because of the false brethren brought in unawares, who did come in privily to spy out our liberty that we have in Christ Jesus, that us they might bring under bondage,

5 N ão nos submetemos a eles nem por um instante, para que a verdade do evangelho permanecesse com vocês.

to whom not even for an hour we gave place by subjection, that the truth of the good news might remain to you.

6 Q uanto aos que pareciam influentes — o que eram então não faz diferença para mim; Deus não julga pela aparência — tais homens influentes não me acrescentaram nada.

And from those who were esteemed to be something -- whatever they were then, it maketh no difference to me -- the face of man God accepteth not, for -- to me those esteemed did add nothing,

7 A o contrário, reconheceram que a mim havia sido confiada a pregação do evangelho aos incircuncisos, assim como a Pedro, aos circuncisos.

but, on the contrary, having seen that I have been entrusted with the good news of the uncircumcision, as Peter with of the circumcision,

8 P ois Deus, que operou por meio de Pedro como apóstolo aos circuncisos, também operou por meu intermédio para com os gentios.

for He who did work with Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, did work also in me in regard to the nations,

9 R econhecendo a graça que me fora concedida, Tiago, Pedro e João, tidos como colunas, estenderam a mão direita a mim e a Barnabé em sinal de comunhão. Eles concordaram em que devíamos nos dirigir aos gentios, e eles, aos circuncisos.

and having known the grace that was given to me, James, and Cephas, and John, who were esteemed to be pillars, a right hand of fellowship they did give to me, and to Barnabas, that we to the nations, and they to the circumcision,

10 S omente pediram que nos lembrássemos dos pobres, o que me esforcei por fazer. Paulo Repreende a Pedro

only, of the poor that we should be mindful, which also I was diligent -- this very thing -- to do.

11 Q uando, porém, Pedro veio a Antioquia, enfrentei-o face a face, por sua atitude condenável.

And when Peter came to Antioch, to the face I stood up against him, because he was blameworthy,

12 P ois, antes de chegarem alguns da parte de Tiago, ele comia com os gentios. Quando, porém, eles chegaram, afastou-se e separou-se dos gentios, temendo os que eram da circuncisão.

for before the coming of certain from James, with the nations he was eating, and when they came, he was withdrawing and separating himself, fearing those of the circumcision,

13 O s demais judeus também se uniram a ele nessa hipocrisia, de modo que até Barnabé se deixou levar.

and dissemble with him also did the other Jews, so that also Barnabas was carried away by their dissimulation.

14 Q uando vi que não estavam andando de acordo com a verdade do evangelho, declarei a Pedro, diante de todos: “Você é judeu, mas vive como gentio e não como judeu. Portanto, como pode obrigar gentios a viverem como judeus?

But when I saw that they are not walking uprightly to the truth of the good news, I said to Peter before all, `If thou, being a Jew, in the manner of the nations dost live, and not in the manner of the Jews, how the nations dost thou compel to Judaize?

15 “ Nós, judeus de nascimento e não ‘gentios pecadores’,

we by nature Jews, and not sinners of the nations,

16 s abemos que ninguém é justificado pela prática da Lei, mas mediante a fé em Jesus Cristo. Assim, nós também cremos em Cristo Jesus para sermos justificados pela fé em Cristo, e não pela prática da Lei, porque pela prática da Lei ninguém será justificado.

having known also that a man is not declared righteous by works of law, if not through the faith of Jesus Christ, also we in Christ Jesus did believe, that we might be declared righteous by the faith of Christ, and not by works of law, wherefore declared righteous by works of law shall be no flesh.'

17 “ Se, porém, procurando ser justificados em Cristo descobrimos que nós mesmos somos pecadores, será Cristo então ministro do pecado? De modo algum!

And if, seeking to be declared righteous in Christ, we ourselves also were found sinners, then Christ a ministrant of sin? let it not be!

18 S e reconstruo o que destruí, provo que sou transgressor.

for if the things I threw down, these again I build up, a transgressor I set myself forth;

19 P ois, por meio da Lei eu morri para a Lei, a fim de viver para Deus.

for I through law, did die, that to God I may live;

20 F ui crucificado com Cristo. Assim, já não sou eu quem vive, mas Cristo vive em mim. A vida que agora vivo no corpo, vivo-a pela fé no filho de Deus, que me amou e se entregou por mim.

with Christ I have been crucified, and live no more do I, and Christ doth live in me; and that which I now live in the flesh -- in the faith I live of the Son of God, who did love me and did give himself for me;

21 N ão anulo a graça de Deus; pois, se a justiça vem pela Lei, Cristo morreu inutilmente!”

I do not make void the grace of God, for if righteousness through law -- then Christ died in vain.
