1 N o mundo todo havia apenas uma língua, um só modo de falar.

And the whole earth is of one pronunciation, and of the same words,

2 S aindo os homens do Oriente, encontraram uma planície em Sinear e ali se fixaram.

and it cometh to pass, in their journeying from the east, that they find a valley in the land of Shinar, and dwell there;

3 D isseram uns aos outros: “Vamos fazer tijolos e queimá-los bem”. Usavam tijolos em lugar de pedras, e piche em vez de argamassa.

and they say each one to his neighbour, `Give help, let us make bricks, and burn thoroughly:' and the brick is to them for stone, and the bitumen hath been to them for mortar.

4 D epois disseram: “Vamos construir uma cidade, com uma torre que alcance os céus. Assim nosso nome será famoso e não seremos espalhados pela face da terra”.

And they say, `Give help, let us build for ourselves a city and tower, and its head in the heavens, and make for ourselves a name, lest we be scattered over the face of all the earth.'

5 O Senhor desceu para ver a cidade e a torre que os homens estavam construindo.

And Jehovah cometh down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men have builded;

6 E disse o Senhor: “Eles são um só povo e falam uma só língua, e começaram a construir isso. Em breve nada poderá impedir o que planejam fazer.

and Jehovah saith, `Lo, the people one, and one pronunciation to them all, and this it hath dreamed of doing; and now, nothing is restrained from them of that which they have purposed to do.

7 V enham, desçamos e confundamos a língua que falam, para que não entendam mais uns aos outros”.

Give help, let us go down, and mingle there their pronunciation, so that a man doth not understand the pronunciation of his companion.'

8 A ssim o Senhor os dispersou dali por toda a terra, e pararam de construir a cidade.

And Jehovah doth scatter them from thence over the face of all the earth, and they cease to build the city;

9 P or isso foi chamada Babel, porque ali o Senhor confundiu a língua de todo o mundo. Dali o Senhor os espalhou por toda a terra. A Descendência de Sem

therefore hath called its name Babel, for there hath Jehovah mingled the pronunciation of all the earth, and from thence hath Jehovah scattered them over the face of all the earth.

10 E ste é o registro da descendência de Sem: Dois anos depois do Dilúvio, aos 100 anos de idade, Sem gerou Arfaxade.

These births of Shem: Shem a son of an hundred years, and begetteth Arphaxad two years after the deluge.

11 E depois de ter gerado Arfaxade, Sem viveu 500 anos e gerou outros filhos e filhas.

And Shem liveth after his begetting Arphaxad five hundred years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

12 A os 35 anos, Arfaxade gerou Salá.

And Arphaxad hath lived five and thirty years, and begetteth Salah.

13 D epois que gerou Salá, Arfaxade viveu 403 anos e gerou outros filhos e filhas.

And Arphaxad liveth after his begetting Salah four hundred and three years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

14 A os 30 anos, Salá gerou Héber.

And Salah hath lived thirty years, and begetteth Eber.

15 D epois que gerou Héber, Salá viveu 403 anos e gerou outros filhos e filhas.

And Salah liveth after his begetting Eber four hundred and three years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

16 A os 34 anos, Héber gerou Pelegue.

And Eber liveth four and thirty years, and begetteth Peleg.

17 D epois que gerou Pelegue, Héber viveu 430 anos e gerou outros filhos e filhas.

And Eber liveth after his begetting Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

18 A os 30 anos, Pelegue gerou Reú.

And Peleg liveth thirty years, and begetteth Reu.

19 D epois que gerou Reú, Pelegue viveu 209 anos e gerou outros filhos e filhas.

And Peleg liveth after his begetting Reu two hundred and nine years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

20 A os 32 anos, Reú gerou Serugue.

And Reu liveth two and thirty years, and begetteth Serug.

21 D epois que gerou Serugue, Reú viveu 207 anos e gerou outros filhos e filhas.

And Reu liveth after his begetting Serug two hundred and seven years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

22 A os 30 anos, Serugue gerou Naor.

And Serug liveth thirty years, and begetteth Nahor.

23 D epois que gerou Naor, Serugue viveu 200 anos e gerou outros filhos e filhas.

And Serug liveth after his begetting Nahor two hundred years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

24 A os 29 anos, Naor gerou Terá.

And Nahor liveth nine and twenty years, and begetteth Terah.

25 D epois que gerou Terá, Naor viveu 119 anos e gerou outros filhos e filhas.

And Nahor liveth after his begetting Terah an hundred and nineteen years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

26 A os 70 anos, Terá havia gerado Abrão, Naor e Harã.

And Terah liveth seventy years, and begetteth Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

27 E sta é a história da família de Terá: Terá gerou Abrão, Naor e Harã. E Harã gerou Ló.

And these births of Terah: Terah hath begotten Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran hath begotten Lot;

28 H arã morreu em Ur dos caldeus, sua terra natal, quando ainda vivia Terá, seu pai.

and Haran dieth in the presence of Terah his father, in the land of his birth, in Ur of the Chaldees.

29 T anto Abrão como Naor casaram-se. O nome da mulher de Abrão era Sarai, e o nome da mulher de Naor era Milca; esta era filha de Harã, pai de Milca e de Iscá.

And Abram and Nahor take to themselves wives; the name of Abram's wife Sarai, and the name of Nahor's wife Milcah, daughter of Haran, father of Milcah, and father of Iscah.

30 O ra, Sarai era estéril; não tinha filhos.

And Sarai is barren -- she hath no child.

31 T erá tomou seu filho Abrão, seu neto Ló, filho de Harã, e sua nora Sarai, mulher de seu filho Abrão, e juntos partiram de Ur dos caldeus para Canaã. Mas, ao chegarem a Harã, estabeleceram-se ali.

And Terah taketh Abram his son, and Lot, son of Haran, his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, wife of Abram his son, and they go out with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go towards the land of Canaan; and they come unto Charan, and dwell there.

32 T erá viveu 205 anos e morreu em Harã.

And the days of Terah are two hundred and five years, and Terah dieth in Charan.
