1 M eus irmãos, como crentes em nosso glorioso Senhor Jesus Cristo, não façam diferença entre as pessoas, tratando-as com parcialidade.

My brethren, hold not, in respect of persons, the faith of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ,

2 S uponham que na reunião de vocês entre um homem com anel de ouro e roupas finas, e também entre um pobre com roupas velhas e sujas.

for if there may come into your synagogue a man with gold ring, in gay raiment, and there may come in also a poor man in vile raiment,

3 S e vocês derem atenção especial ao homem que está vestido com roupas finas e disserem: “Aqui está um lugar apropriado para o senhor”, mas disserem ao pobre: “Você, fique em pé ali”, ou: “Sente-se no chão, junto ao estrado onde ponho os meus pés”,

and ye may look upon him bearing the gay raiment, and may say to him, `Thou -- sit thou here well,' and to the poor man may say, `Thou -- stand thou there, or, Sit thou here under my footstool,' --

4 n ão estarão fazendo discriminação, fazendo julgamentos com critérios errados?

ye did not judge fully in yourselves, and did become ill-reasoning judges.

5 O uçam, meus amados irmãos: Não escolheu Deus os que são pobres aos olhos do mundo para serem ricos em fé e herdarem o Reino que ele prometeu aos que o amam?

Hearken, my brethren beloved, did not God choose the poor of this world, rich in faith, and heirs of the reign that He promised to those loving Him?

6 M as vocês têm desprezado o pobre. Não são os ricos que oprimem vocês? Não são eles os que os arrastam para os tribunais?

and ye did dishonour the poor one; do not the rich oppress you and themselves draw you to judgment-seats;

7 N ão são eles que difamam o bom nome que sobre vocês foi invocado?

do they not themselves speak evil of the good name that was called upon you?

8 S e vocês de fato obedecerem à lei do Reino encontrada na Escritura que diz: “Ame o seu próximo como a si mesmo”, estarão agindo corretamente.

If, indeed, royal law ye complete, according to the Writing, `Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself,' -- ye do well;

9 M as se tratarem os outros com parcialidade, estarão cometendo pecado e serão condenados pela Lei como transgressores.

and if ye accept persons, sin ye do work, being convicted by the law as transgressors;

10 P ois quem obedece a toda a Lei, mas tropeça em apenas um ponto, torna-se culpado de quebrá-la inteiramente.

for whoever the whole law shall keep, and shall stumble in one, he hath become guilty of all;

11 P ois aquele que disse: “Não adulterarás”, também disse: “Não matarás”. Se você não comete adultério, mas comete assassinato, torna-se transgressor da Lei.

for He who is saying, `Thou mayest not commit adultery,' said also, `Thou mayest do no murder;' and if thou shalt not commit adultery, and shalt commit murder, thou hast become a transgressor of law;

12 F alem e ajam como quem vai ser julgado pela lei da liberdade;

so speak ye and so do, as about by a law of liberty to be judged,

13 p orque será exercido juízo sem misericórdia sobre quem não foi misericordioso. A misericórdia triunfa sobre o juízo! Fé e Obras

for the judgment without kindness to him not having done kindness, and exult doth kindness over judgment.

14 D e que adianta, meus irmãos, alguém dizer que tem fé, se não tem obras? Acaso a fé pode salvá-lo?

What the profit, my brethren, if faith, any one may speak of having, and works he may not have? is that faith able to save him?

15 S e um irmão ou irmã estiver necessitando de roupas e do alimento de cada dia

and if a brother or sister may be naked, and may be destitute of the daily food,

16 e um de vocês lhe disser: “Vá em paz, aqueça-se e alimente-se até satisfazer-se”, sem porém lhe dar nada, de que adianta isso?

and any one of you may say to them, `Depart ye in peace, be warmed, and be filled,' and may not give to them the things needful for the body, what the profit?

17 A ssim também a fé, por si só, se não for acompanhada de obras, está morta.

so also the faith, if it may not have works, is dead by itself.

18 M as alguém dirá: “Você tem fé; eu tenho obras”. Mostre-me a sua fé sem obras, e eu lhe mostrarei a minha fé pelas obras.

But say may some one, Thou hast faith, and I have works, shew me thy faith out of thy works, and I will shew thee out of my works my faith:

19 V ocê crê que existe um só Deus? Muito bem! Até mesmo os demônios crêem — e tremem!

thou -- thou dost believe that God is one; thou dost well, and the demons believe, and they shudder!

20 I nsensato! Quer certificar-se de que a fé sem obras é inútil ?

And dost thou wish to know, O vain man, that the faith apart from the works is dead?

21 N ão foi Abraão, nosso antepassado, justificado por obras, quando ofereceu seu filho Isaque sobre o altar?

Abraham our father -- was not he declared righteous out of works, having brought up Isaac his son upon the altar?

22 V ocê pode ver que tanto a fé como as obras estavam atuando juntas, e a fé foi aperfeiçoada pelas obras.

dost thou see that the faith was working with his works, and out of the works the faith was perfected?

23 C umpriu-se assim a Escritura que diz: “Abraão creu em Deus, e isso lhe foi creditado como justiça”, e ele foi chamado amigo de Deus.

and fulfilled was the Writing that is saying, `And Abraham did believe God, and it was reckoned to him -- to righteousness;' and, `Friend of God' he was called.

24 V ejam que uma pessoa é justificada por obras, e não apenas pela fé.

Ye see, then, that out of works is man declared righteous, and not out of faith only;

25 C aso semelhante é o de Raabe, a prostituta: não foi ela justificada pelas obras, quando acolheu os espias e os fez sair por outro caminho?

and in like manner also Rahab the harlot -- was she not out of works declared righteous, having received the messengers, and by another way having sent forth?

26 A ssim como o corpo sem espírito está morto, também a fé sem obras está morta.

for as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also the faith apart from the works is dead.
