1 I sraelitas, ouçam a palavra do Senhor, porque o Senhor tem uma acusação contra vocês que vivem nesta terra: “A fidelidade e o amor desapareceram desta terra, como também o conhecimento de Deus.

`Hear a word of Jehovah, sons of Israel, For a strife to Jehovah with inhabitants of the land, For there is no truth, nor kindness, Nor knowledge of God, in the land,

2 S ó se vêem maldição, mentira e assassinatos, roubo e mais roubo, adultério e mais adultério; ultrapassam todos os limites! E o derramamento de sangue é constante.

Swearing, and lying, and murdering, And stealing, and committing adultery -- have increased, And blood against blood hath touched.

Therefore mourn doth the land, And weak is every dweller in it, With the beast of the field, And with the fowl of the heavens, And the fishes of the sea -- they are removed.

Only, let no one strive, nor reprove a man, And thy people as those striving with a priest.

5 V ocês tropeçam dia e noite, e os profetas tropeçam com vocês. Por isso destruirei sua mãe.

And thou hast stumbled in the day, And stumbled hath also a prophet with thee in the night, And I have cut off thy mother.

6 M eu povo foi destruído por falta de conhecimento. “Uma vez que vocês rejeitaram o conhecimento, eu também os rejeito como meus sacerdotes; uma vez que vocês ignoraram a lei do seu Deus, eu também ignorarei seus filhos.

Cut off have been My people for lack of knowledge, Because thou knowledge hast rejected, I reject thee from being priest to Me, And thou forgettest the law of thy God, I forget thy sons, I also!

7 Q uanto mais aumentaram os sacerdotes, mais eles pecaram contra mim; trocaram a Glória deles por algo vergonhoso.

According to their abundance so they sinned against Me, Their honour into shame I change.

8 E les se alimentam dos pecados do meu povo e têm prazer em sua iniqüidade.

The sin of My people they do eat, And unto their iniquity lift up their soul.

9 P ortanto, castigarei tanto o povo quanto os sacerdotes por causa dos seus caminhos, e lhes retribuirei seus atos.

And it hath been, like people, like priest, And I have charged on it its ways, And its habitual doings I return to it.

10 “ Eles comerão, mas não terão o suficiente; eles se prostituirão, mas não aumentarão a prole, porque abandonaram o Senhor para se entregarem

And they have eaten, and are not satisfied, They have gone a-whoring, and increase not, For they have left off taking heed to Jehovah.

11 à prostituição, ao vinho velho e ao novo, prejudicando o discernimento do meu povo.

Whoredom, and wine, and new wine, take the heart,

12 E les pedem conselhos a um ídolo de madeira, e de um pedaço de pau recebem resposta. Um espírito de prostituição os leva a desviar-se; eles são infiéis ao seu Deus.

My people at its staff asketh and its rod declareth to it, For a spirit of whoredoms hath caused to err, And they go a-whoring from under their God.

13 S acrificam no alto dos montes e queimam incenso nas colinas, debaixo de um carvalho, de um estoraque ou de um terebinto, onde a sombra é agradável. Por isso as suas filhas se prostituem e as suas noras adulteram.

On tops of the mountains they do sacrifice, And on the hills they make perfume, Under oak, and poplar, and terebinth, For good its shade.

14 “ Não castigarei suas filhas por se prostituírem, nem suas noras por adulterarem, porque os próprios homens se associam a meretrizes e participam dos sacrifícios oferecidos pelas prostitutas cultuais — um povo sem entendimento precipita-se à ruína!

Therefore commit whoredom do your daughters, And your spouses commit adultery, I do not see after your daughters when they commit whoredom, And after your spouses when they commit adultery, For they with the harlots are separated, And with the whores they do sacrifice, A people that doth not understand kicketh.

15 “ Embora você adultere, ó Israel, que Judá não se torne culpada! “Deixem de ir a Gilgal; não subam a Bete-Áven. E não digam: ‘Juro pelo nome do Senhor!’

Though a harlot thou, O Israel, Let not Judah become guilty, And come not ye in to Gilgal, nor go up to Beth-Aven, Nor swear ye, Jehovah liveth.

16 O s israelitas são rebeldes como bezerra indomável. Como pode o Senhor apascentá-los como cordeiros na campina?

For as a refractory heifer hath Israel turned aside, Now doth Jehovah feed them as a lamb in a large place.

17 E fraim aliou-se a ídolos; deixem-no só!

Joined to idols Ephraim, let him alone.

18 M esmo quando acaba a bebida, eles continuam em sua prostituição; seus governantes amam profundamente os caminhos vergonhosos.

Sour their drink, They have gone diligently a-whoring, Her protectors have loved shame thoroughly.

19 U m redemoinho os varrerá para longe, e os seus altares lhes trarão vergonha.

Distressed her hath wind with its wings, And they are ashamed of their sacrifices!
