1 J oás tinha sete anos de idade quando se tornou rei, e reinou quarenta anos em Jerusalém. O nome de sua mãe era Zíbia; ela era de Berseba.

A son of seven years Joash in his reigning, and forty years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother Zibiah of Beer-Sheba.

2 J oás fez o que o Senhor aprova enquanto viveu o sacerdote Joiada.

And Joash doth that which is right in the eyes of Jehovah all the days of Jehoiada the priest.

3 E ste escolheu para Joás duas mulheres, e ele teve filhos e filhas.

And Jehoiada taketh for him two wives, and he begetteth sons and daughters.

4 A lgum tempo depois, Joás decidiu fazer reparos no templo do Senhor.

And it cometh to pass after this, it hath been with the heart of Joash to renew the house of Jehovah,

5 E le reuniu os sacerdotes e os levitas e lhes disse: “Vão às cidades de Judá e recolham o imposto devido anualmente por todo o Israel, para fazer reparos no templo de seu Deus. Vão agora mesmo!” Os levitas, porém, não agiram imediatamente.

and he gathereth the priests and the Levites, and saith to them, `Go out to the cities of Judah, and gather from all Israel money to strengthen the house of your God sufficiently year by year, and ye, ye do haste to the matter;' and the Levites have not hasted.

6 P or isso o rei convocou Joiada, o sumo sacerdote, e lhe perguntou: “Por que você não exigiu que os levitas trouxessem de Judá e de Jerusalém o imposto determinado por Moisés, servo do Senhor, e pela assembléia de Israel, para a tenda da arca da aliança ?”

And the king calleth for Jehoiada the head, and saith to him, `Wherefore hast thou not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the tribute of Moses, servant of Jehovah, and of the assembly of Israel, for the tent of the testimony?

7 D e fato, Atalia, aquela mulher ímpia, e os seus filhos tinham arrombado o templo de Deus e tinham até usado os seus objetos sagrados para cultuar os baalins.

for sons of Athaliah, the wicked one, have broken up the house of God, and also, all the holy things of the house of Jehovah they have prepared for Baalim.'

8 E ntão, por ordem do rei, fizeram uma caixa e a colocaram do lado de fora, à entrada do templo do Senhor.

And the king speaketh, and they make one chest, and put it at the gate of the house of Jehovah without,

9 F ez-se a seguir uma proclamação em Judá e em Jerusalém para que trouxessem ao Senhor o imposto que Moisés, servo de Deus, havia exigido de Israel no deserto.

and give an intimation in Judah and in Jerusalem to bring in to Jehovah the tribute of Moses, servant of God, on Israel in the wilderness.

10 T odos os líderes e todo o povo trouxeram com alegria as suas contribuições, colocando-as na caixa até enchê-la.

And all the heads, and all the people rejoice, and they bring in, and cast into the chest, unto completion.

11 S empre que os levitas levavam a caixa até os supervisores do rei e estes viam que havia muita prata, o secretário real e o oficial do sumo sacerdote esvaziavam-na e a levavam de volta. Fazendo isso regularmente, ajuntaram uma grande quantidade de prata.

And it cometh to pass, at the time one bringeth in the chest for the inspection of the king by the hand of the Levites, and at their seeing that the money abundant, that a scribe of the king hath come in, and an officer of the head-priest, and they empty the chest, and take it up and turn it back unto its place; thus they have done day by day, and gather money in abundance.

12 O rei e Joiada entregavam essa prata aos homens que executavam os trabalhos necessários no templo do Senhor. Eles contratavam pedreiros, carpinteiros e também operários que trabalhavam em ferro e em bronze para restaurarem o templo do Senhor.

And the king and Jehoiada give it unto the doers of the work of the service of the house of Jehovah, and they are hiring hewers and artificers to renew the house of Jehovah, and also -- to artificers in iron and brass to strengthen the house of Jehovah.

13 O s homens encarregados do trabalho eram diligentes, o que garantiu o progresso da obra de reforma. Eles reconstruíram o templo de Deus de acordo com o modelo original e o reforçaram.

And those doing the business work, and there goeth up lengthening to the work by their hand, and they establish the house of God, by its proper measure, and strengthen it.

14 Q uando terminaram, trouxeram o restante da prata ao rei e a Joiada, e com ela foram feitos utensílios para o templo do Senhor; utensílios para o serviço e para os holocaustos, além de tigelas e outros objetos de ouro e de prata. Enquanto Joiada viveu, holocaustos foram apresentados continuamente no templo do Senhor.

And at their completing, they have brought in before the king and Jehoiada the rest of the money, and they make it vessels for the house of Jehovah, vessels of serving, and of offering up, and spoons, even vessels of gold and silver; and they are causing burnt-offerings to ascend in the house of Jehovah continually, all the days of Jehoiada.

15 J oiada morreu com idade avançada, com cento e trinta anos.

And Jehoiada is aged and satisfied with days, and dieth -- a son of a hundred and thirty years in his death,

16 F oi sepultado com os reis na Cidade de Davi, em atenção ao bem que havia feito em Israel em favor de Deus e do seu templo. A Impiedade de Joás

and they bury him in the city of David, with the kings, for he hath done good in Israel, and with God, and his house.

17 D epois da morte de Joiada, os líderes de Judá foram falar com o rei e lhe prestaram reverência, e ele aceitou o que disseram.

And after the death of Jehoiada come in have heads of Judah, and bow themselves to the king; then hath the king hearkened unto them,

18 E ntão abandonaram o templo do Senhor, o Deus dos seus antepassados, e prestaram culto aos postes sagrados e aos ídolos. Por culpa deles, a ira de Deus veio sobre Judá e Jerusalém.

and they forsake the house of Jehovah, God of their fathers, and serve the shrines and the idols, and there is wrath upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their guilt.

19 E mbora o Senhor tivesse enviado profetas ao povo para trazê-los de volta para ele, e os profetas tivessem testemunhado contra eles, o povo não quis ouvi-los.

And He sendeth among them prophets, to bring them back unto Jehovah, and they testify against them, and they have not given ear;

20 E ntão o Espírito de Deus apoderou-se de Zacarias, filho do sacerdote Joiada. Ele se colocou diante do povo e disse: “Isto é o que Deus diz: ‘Por que vocês desobedecem aos mandamentos do Senhor ? Vocês não prosperarão. Já que abandonaram o Senhor, ele os abandonará’”.

and the Spirit of God hath clothed Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest, and he standeth over-against the people, and saith to them, `Thus said God, Why are ye transgressing the commands of Jehovah, and prosper not? because ye have forsaken Jehovah -- He doth forsake you.'

21 M as alguns conspiraram contra ele e, por ordem do rei, apedrejaram-no até a morte no pátio do templo do Senhor.

And they conspire against him, and stone him with stones by the command of the king, in the court of the house of Jehovah,

22 O rei Joás não levou em conta que Joiada, pai de Zacarias, tinha sido bondoso com ele, e matou o seu filho. Este, ao morrer, exclamou: “Veja isto o Senhor e faça justiça!”

and Joash the king hath not remembered the kindness that Jehoiada his father did with him, and slayeth his son, and in his death he said, `Jehovah doth see, and require.'

23 N a virada do ano, o exército arameu marchou contra Joás; invadiu Judá e Jerusalém, matou todos os líderes do povo, e enviou para Damasco, ao seu rei, tudo o que saqueou.

And it cometh to pass, at the turn of the year, come up hath the force of Aram against him, and they come in unto Judah and Jerusalem, and destroy all the heads of the people from the people, and all their spoil they have sent to the king of Damascus,

24 E mbora o exército arameu fosse pequeno, o Senhor entregou nas mãos dele um exército muito maior, por Judá ter abandonado o Senhor, o Deus dos seus antepassados. Assim o juízo foi executado sobre Joás.

for with few men have the force of Aram come in, and Jehovah hath given into their hand a mighty force for multitude, because they have forsaken Jehovah, God of their fathers; and with Joash they have executed judgments.

25 Q uando os arameus foram embora, deixaram Joás seriamente ferido. Seus oficiais conspiraram contra ele, porque ele tinha assassinado o filho do sacerdote Joiada, e o mataram em sua cama. Assim ele morreu e foi sepultado na Cidade de Davi, mas não nos túmulos dos reis.

And in their going from him -- for they left him with many diseases -- his servants themselves have conspired against him, for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and slay him on his bed, and he dieth; and they bury him in the city of David, and have not buried him in the graves of the kings.

26 O s que conspiraram contra ele foram Zabade, filho da amonita Simeate, e Jeozabade, filho da moabita Sinrite.

And these those conspiring against him, Zabad son of Shimeath the Ammonitess, and Jehozabad son of Shimrith the Moabitess.

27 Q uanto a seus filhos, às muitas profecias a seu respeito e ao relato da restauração do templo de Deus, tudo está escrito nas anotações dos livros dos reis. E seu filho Amazias foi o seu sucessor.

As to his sons, and the greatness of the burden upon him, and the foundation of the house of God, lo, they are written on the `Inquiry' of the book of the Kings; and reign doth Amaziah his son in his stead.
