1 I rmãos, quanto aos tempos e épocas, não precisamos escrever-lhes,

And concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need of my writing to you,

2 p ois vocês mesmos sabem perfeitamente que o dia do Senhor virá como ladrão à noite.

for yourselves have known thoroughly that the day of the Lord as a thief in the night doth so come,

3 Q uando disserem: “Paz e segurança”, a destruição virá sobre eles de repente, como as dores de parto à mulher grávida; e de modo nenhum escaparão.

for when they may say, Peace and surety, then sudden destruction doth stand by them, as the travail her who is with child, and they shall not escape;

4 M as vocês, irmãos, não estão nas trevas, para que esse dia os surpreenda como ladrão.

and ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day may catch you as a thief;

5 V ocês todos são filhos da luz, filhos do dia. Não somos da noite nem das trevas.

all ye are sons of light, and sons of day; we are not of night, nor of darkness,

6 P ortanto, não durmamos como os demais, mas estejamos atentos e sejamos sóbrios;

so, then, we may not sleep as also the others, but watch and be sober,

7 p ois os que dormem, dormem de noite, e os que se embriagam, embriagam-se de noite.

for those sleeping, by night do sleep, and those making themselves drunk, by night are drunken,

8 N ós, porém, que somos do dia, sejamos sóbrios, vestindo a couraça da fé e do amor e o capacete da esperança da salvação.

and we, being of the day -- let us be sober, putting on a breastplate of faith and love, and an helmet -- a hope of salvation,

9 P orque Deus não nos destinou para a ira, mas para recebermos a salvação por meio de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.

because God did not appoint us to anger, but to the acquiring of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,

10 E le morreu por nós para que, quer estejamos acordados quer dormindo, vivamos unidos a ele.

who did die for us, that whether we wake -- whether we sleep -- together with him we may live;

11 P or isso, exortem-se e edifiquem-se uns aos outros, como de fato vocês estão fazendo. Instruções Finais

wherefore, comfort ye one another, and build ye up, one the one, as also ye do.

12 A gora lhes pedimos, irmãos, que tenham consideração para com os que se esforçam no trabalho entre vocês, que os lideram no Senhor e os aconselham.

And we ask you, brethren, to know those labouring among you, and leading you in the Lord, and admonishing you,

13 T enham-nos na mais alta estima, com amor, por causa do trabalho deles. Vivam em paz uns com os outros.

and to esteem them very abundantly in love, because of their work; be at peace among yourselves;

14 E xortamos vocês, irmãos, a que advirtam os ociosos, confortem os desanimados, auxiliem os fracos, sejam pacientes para com todos.

and we exhort you, brethren, admonish the disorderly, comfort the feeble-minded, support the infirm, be patient unto all;

15 T enham cuidado para que ninguém retribua o mal com o mal, mas sejam sempre bondosos uns para com os outros e para com todos.

see no one evil for evil may render to any one, but always that which is good pursue ye, both to one another and to all;

16 A legrem-se sempre.

always rejoice ye;

17 O rem continuamente.

continually pray ye;

18 D êem graças em todas as circunstâncias, pois esta é a vontade de Deus para vocês em Cristo Jesus.

in every thing give thanks, for this the will of God in Christ Jesus in regard to you.

19 N ão apaguem o Espírito.

The Spirit quench not;

20 N ão tratem com desprezo as profecias,

prophesyings despise not;

21 m as ponham à prova todas as coisas e fiquem com o que é bom.

all things prove; that which is good hold fast;

22 A fastem-se de toda forma de mal.

from all appearance of evil abstain ye;

23 Q ue o próprio Deus da paz os santifique inteiramente. Que todo o espírito, a alma e o corpo de vocês sejam preservados irrepreensíveis na vinda de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.

and the God of the peace Himself sanctify you wholly, and may your whole spirit, and soul, and body, be preserved unblameably in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ;

24 A quele que os chama é fiel, e fará isso.

stedfast is He who is calling you, who also will do.

25 I rmãos, orem por nós.

Brethren, pray for us;

26 S aúdem todos os irmãos com beijo santo.

salute all the brethren in an holy kiss;

27 D iante do Senhor, encarrego vocês de lerem esta carta a todos os irmãos.

I charge you the Lord, that the letter be read to all the holy brethren;

28 A graça de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo seja com vocês.

the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ with you! Amen.
