1 E n cuanto a los tiempos y las ocasiones, no hace falta, hermanos míos, que yo les escriba.

And concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need of my writing to you,

2 U stedes saben perfectamente que el día del Señor llegará como ladrón en la noche;

for yourselves have known thoroughly that the day of the Lord as a thief in the night doth so come,

3 D e repente, cuando la gente diga: «Paz y seguridad», les sobrevendrá la destrucción, como le llegan a la mujer encinta los dolores, y no escaparán.

for when they may say, Peace and surety, then sudden destruction doth stand by them, as the travail her who is with child, and they shall not escape;

4 P ero ustedes, hermanos, no viven en tinieblas, como para que ese día los sorprenda como un ladrón,

and ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day may catch you as a thief;

5 s ino que todos ustedes son hijos de la luz e hijos del día. No somos de la noche ni de la oscuridad,

all ye are sons of light, and sons of day; we are not of night, nor of darkness,

6 a sí que no durmamos como los demás, sino mantengámonos atentos y sobrios.

so, then, we may not sleep as also the others, but watch and be sober,

7 L os que duermen, de noche duermen; los que se embriagan, de noche se embriagan;

for those sleeping, by night do sleep, and those making themselves drunk, by night are drunken,

8 p ero nosotros, los que somos del día, debemos ser sobrios, ya que nos hemos revestido de la coraza de la fe y del amor, y tenemos como casco la esperanza de la salvación.

and we, being of the day -- let us be sober, putting on a breastplate of faith and love, and an helmet -- a hope of salvation,

9 D ios no nos ha puesto para sufrir el castigo, sino para alcanzar la salvación por medio de nuestro Señor Jesucristo,

because God did not appoint us to anger, but to the acquiring of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,

10 q uien murió por nosotros para que, despiertos o dormidos, vivamos unidos a él.

who did die for us, that whether we wake -- whether we sleep -- together with him we may live;

11 P or lo tanto, anímense y edifíquense unos a otros, como en efecto ya lo hacen. Pablo exhorta a los hermanos

wherefore, comfort ye one another, and build ye up, one the one, as also ye do.

12 H ermanos, les rogamos que sean considerados con los que trabajan entre ustedes, y que los instruyen y dirigen en el Señor.

And we ask you, brethren, to know those labouring among you, and leading you in the Lord, and admonishing you,

13 T énganlos en alta estima y ámenlos por causa de su obra. Y ustedes, vivan en paz.

and to esteem them very abundantly in love, because of their work; be at peace among yourselves;

14 T ambién les rogamos, hermanos, que les llamen la atención a los ociosos, que animen a los de poco ánimo, que apoyen a los débiles, y que sean pacientes con todos.

and we exhort you, brethren, admonish the disorderly, comfort the feeble-minded, support the infirm, be patient unto all;

15 T engan cuidado de que nadie pague a otro mal por mal; más bien, procuren siempre hacer el bien, tanto entre ustedes como con los demás.

see no one evil for evil may render to any one, but always that which is good pursue ye, both to one another and to all;

16 E stén siempre gozosos.

always rejoice ye;

17 O ren sin cesar.

continually pray ye;

18 D en gracias a Dios en todo, porque ésta es su voluntad para ustedes en Cristo Jesús.

in every thing give thanks, for this the will of God in Christ Jesus in regard to you.

19 N o apaguen el Espíritu.

The Spirit quench not;

20 N o menosprecien las profecías.

prophesyings despise not;

21 E xamínenlo todo; retengan lo bueno.

all things prove; that which is good hold fast;

22 A bsténganse de toda especie de mal.

from all appearance of evil abstain ye;

23 Q ue el mismo Dios de paz los santifique por completo; y que guarde irreprensible todo su ser, espíritu, alma y cuerpo, para la venida de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.

and the God of the peace Himself sanctify you wholly, and may your whole spirit, and soul, and body, be preserved unblameably in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ;

24 A quel que los llama es fiel, y cumplirá todo esto. Salutaciones y bendición final

stedfast is He who is calling you, who also will do.

25 H ermanos, oren por nosotros.

Brethren, pray for us;

26 S aluden a todos los hermanos con un beso santo.

salute all the brethren in an holy kiss;

27 L es encargo en el nombre del Señor que esta carta sea leída a todos los santos hermanos.

I charge you the Lord, that the letter be read to all the holy brethren;

28 Q ue la gracia de nuestro Señor Jesucristo sea con ustedes. Amén.

the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ with you! Amen.
