1 E ntonces Isaac llamó a Jacob, y lo bendijo. Además, le ordenó: «No tomes como mujer a ninguna cananea.

And Isaac calleth unto Jacob, and blesseth him, and commandeth him, and saith to him, `Thou dost not take a wife of the daughters of Caanan;

2 L evántate y vete a Padán Aram, a casa de Betuel, tu abuelo materno, y toma allí por mujer a una de las hijas de Labán, el hermano de tu madre.

rise, go to Padan-Aram, to the house of Bethuel, thy mother's father, and take for thyself from thence a wife, of the daughters of Laban, thy mother's brother;

3 ¡ Que el Dios omnipotente te bendiga y haga que te reproduzcas y te multipliques, hasta que seas un gran conjunto de pueblos!

and God Almighty doth bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, and thou hast become an assembly of peoples;

4 ¡ Que Dios te dé la bendición de Abrahán, a ti y a tu descendencia, para que heredes la tierra donde ahora vives, y que él le dio a Abrahán!»

and He doth give to thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee and to thy seed with thee, to cause thee to possess the land of thy sojournings, which God gave to Abraham.'

5 A sí despidió Isaac a Jacob, y éste se fue a Padán Aram, donde vivía Labán, que era hijo de Betuel el arameo y hermano de Rebeca, la madre de Jacob y de Esaú.

And Isaac sendeth away Jacob, and he goeth to Padan-Aram, unto Laban, son of Bethuel the Aramaean, brother of Rebekah, mother of Jacob and Esau.

6 E saú vio que Isaac había bendecido a Jacob, y que lo había enviado a Padán Aram para tomar de allí una mujer. También vio que, al bendecirlo, le había dado la orden de no tomar por mujer a una cananea,

And Esau seeth that Isaac hath blessed Jacob, and hath sent him to Padan-Aram to take to himself from thence a wife -- in his blessing him that he layeth a charge upon him, saying, Thou dost not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan --

7 y que Jacob había obedecido a su padre y a su madre, y se había ido a Padán Aram.

that Jacob hearkeneth unto his father and unto his mother, and goeth to Padan-Aram --

8 E saú vio igualmente que a Isaac, su padre, no le agradaban las cananeas,

and Esau seeth that the daughters of Canaan are evil in the eyes of Isaac his father,

9 a sí que se fue a ver a Ismael y, además de sus otras mujeres, Esaú tomó allí por mujer a Majalat, que era hermana de Nebayot e hija de Ismael, el hijo de Abrahán. Dios se aparece a Jacob en Betel

and Esau goeth unto Ishmael, and taketh Mahalath, daughter of Ishmael, Abraham's son, sister of Nebajoth, unto his wives, to himself, for a wife.

10 J acob salió de Berseba y se fue a Jarán.

And Jacob goeth out from Beer-Sheba, and goeth toward Haran,

11 A l llegar a cierto lugar, se quedó allí a pasar la noche, porque el sol ya se había puesto. Tomó una de las piedras de aquel lugar y la puso como cabecera, y allí se acostó para dormir.

and he toucheth at a place, and lodgeth there, for the sun hath gone in, and he taketh of the stones of the place, and maketh his pillows, and lieth down in that place.

12 E ntonces tuvo un sueño, en el que veía una escalera apoyada en la tierra, y cuyo extremo tocaba el cielo, y veía que los ángeles de Dios subían y bajaban por ella.

And he dreameth, and lo, a ladder set up on the earth, and its head is touching the heavens; and lo, messengers of God are going up and coming down by it;

13 E n lo alto de la escalera, veía al Señor, que le decía: «Yo soy el Señor, el Dios de tu padre Abrahán y el Dios de Isaac. A ti y a tu descendencia les daré la tierra donde ahora estás acostado.

and lo, Jehovah is standing upon it, and He saith, `I Jehovah, God of Abraham thy father, and God of Isaac; the land on which thou art lying, to thee I give it, and to thy seed;

14 T u descendencia será como el polvo de la tierra, y te esparcirás hacia el occidente y el oriente, hacia el norte y el sur. En ti y en tu simiente serán bendecidas todas las familias de la tierra.

and thy seed hath been as the dust of the land, and thou hast broken forth westward, and eastward, and northward, and southward, and all families of the ground have been blessed in thee and in thy seed.

15 D ate cuenta de que yo estoy contigo. Yo te protegeré por dondequiera que vayas, y volveré a traerte a esta tierra. No te dejaré ni un momento, hasta que haya hecho lo que te he dicho.»

`And lo, I with thee, and have kept thee whithersoever thou goest, and have caused thee to turn back unto this ground; for I leave thee not till that I have surely done that which I have spoken to thee.'

16 C uando Jacob despertó de su sueño, dijo: «Realmente el Señor está en este lugar, y yo no lo sabía.»

And Jacob awaketh out of his sleep, and saith, `Surely Jehovah is in this place, and I knew not;'

17 S intió miedo, y dijo: «¡Qué terrible es este lugar! ¡No es otra cosa que la casa de Dios y la puerta del cielo!»

and he feareth, and saith, `How fearful this place; this is nothing but a house of God, and this a gate of the heavens.'

18 P or la mañana Jacob se levantó y tomó la piedra que había puesto de cabecera, la levantó como un pilar, y sobre ella derramó aceite.

And Jacob riseth early in the morning, and taketh the stone which he hath made his pillows, and maketh it a standing pillar, and poureth oil upon its top,

19 A ese lugar le puso por nombre Betel, aunque el primer nombre de esa ciudad era Luz.

and he calleth the name of that place Bethel, and yet, Luz the name of the city at the first.

20 A llí Jacob hizo este voto: «Si Dios me acompaña y me protege en este viaje que ahora hago, y me da pan para comer y ropa para vestirme,

And Jacob voweth a vow, saying, `Seeing God is with me, and hath kept me in this way which I am going, and hath given to me bread to eat, and a garment to put on --

21 y me hace volver en paz a la casa de mi padre, entonces el Señor será mi Dios.

when I have turned back in peace unto the house of my father, and Jehovah hath become my God,

22 E sta piedra, que he levantado como pilar, será casa de Dios; y de todo lo que me des, apartaré el diezmo para ti.»

then this stone which I have made a standing pillar is a house of God, and all that Thou dost give to me -- tithing I tithe to Thee.'
