1 A sí me dijo el Señor: «Ve y cómprate un cinturón de lino, y cíñetelo, pero no lo remojes en agua.»

Thus said Jehovah unto me, `Go, and thou hast got for thee a girdle of linen, and hast placed it on thy loins, and into water thou dost not cause it to enter:'

2 E n obediencia a la palabra del Señor, fui y compré el cinturón, y me lo ceñí.

and I get the girdle, according to the word of Jehovah, and I place on my loins.

3 P or segunda vez vino a mí la palabra del Señor, y me dijo:

And there is a word of Jehovah unto me a second time, saying,

4 « Toma el cinturón que compraste, y que te has ceñido a la cintura, y disponte a ir al río Éufrates para esconder el cinturón en la hendidura de una peña.»

`Take the girdle that thou hast got, that on thy loins, and rise, go to Phrat, and hide it there in a hole of the rock;

5 Y o fui y escondí el cinturón junto al Éufrates, tal y como el Señor me lo ordenó.

and I go and hide it by Phrat, as Jehovah commanded me.

6 D espués de un largo tiempo el Señor me dijo: «Levántate y vete al Éufrates, y saca de allí el cinturón que te mandé esconder allá.»

And it cometh to pass, at the end of many days, that Jehovah saith unto me, `Rise, go to Phrat, and take thence the girdle, that I commanded thee to hide there;'

7 E ntonces fui al Éufrates, y cavé y saqué el cinturón de donde lo había escondido, ¡y resultó que el cinturón se había podrido! ¡Ya no servía para nada!

and I go to Phrat, and dig, and take the girdle from the place where I had hid it; and lo, the girdle hath been marred, it is not profitable for anything.

8 L a palabra del Señor vino entonces a mí, y me dijo:

And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying, `Thus said Jehovah:

9 « Así dice el Señor: Del mismo modo haré que se pudran la soberbia de Judá y la mucha soberbia de Jerusalén.

Thus do I mar the excellency of Judah, And the great excellency of Jerusalem.

10 E ste pueblo malvado no quiere oír mis palabras. Anda divagando en su corazón y va en pos de dioses ajenos para servirles y adorarlos, pero vendrá a ser como este cinturón, que no sirve para nada.

This evil people, who refuse to hear My words, Who walk in the stubbornness of their heart, And go after other gods to serve them, And to bow themselves to them, Yea it is -- as this girdle, that is not profitable for anything.

11 Y o quería que toda la casa de Israel y toda la casa de Judá se juntaran conmigo, así como el cinturón se junta a la cintura. Quería que fueran un pueblo que me diera renombre, y que me alabara y honrara. ¡Pero no me hicieron caso! —Palabra del Señor. La señal de las tinajas llenas

For, as the girdle cleaveth unto the loins of a man, So I caused to cleave unto Me The whole house of Israel, And the whole house of Judah, an affirmation of Jehovah, To be to Me for a people, and for a name, And for praise, and for beauty, And they have not hearkened.

12 » Diles también que yo, el Señor y Dios de Israel, he dicho: “Todos los odres se llenan de vino.” Ellos te responderán: “¿Y acaso no sabemos que todos los odres se llenan de vino?”

And thou hast said unto them this word, Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, `Every bottle is full of wine,' And they have said unto thee: `Do we not certainly know that every bottle is full of wine?'

13 E ntonces les dirás: “Así ha dicho el Señor: Voy a llenar de vino a todos los habitantes de esta tierra, lo mismo a los reyes de la estirpe de David, que ocupan su trono, que a los sacerdotes y profetas y a todos los habitantes de Jerusalén.

And thou hast said unto them, `Thus said Jehovah: Lo, I am filling all the inhabitants of this land, And the kings who sit for David on his throne, And the priests, and the prophets, And all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, drunkenness,

14 L os voy a estrellar unos contra otros, lo mismo a los padres que a los hijos. No los perdonaré, ni les tendré piedad ni compasión para no destruirlos.”» —Palabra del Señor. Judá será llevada en cautiverio

And have dashed them one against another, And the fathers and the sons together, An affirmation of Jehovah, I do not pity, nor spare, nor have I mercy, So as not to destroy them.

15 ¡ Escuchen! ¡Presten atención! No sean arrogantes, que quien habla es el Señor.

Hear, and give ear -- be not haughty, For Jehovah hath spoken.

16 D enle gloria al Señor su Dios antes de que él haga venir las tinieblas; antes de que ustedes tropiecen en montes sombríos, y ustedes esperen la luz, y él la convierta en las más densas sombras y tinieblas.

Give ye to Jehovah your God honour, Before He doth cause darkness, And before your feet stumble on dark mountains, And ye have waited for light, And He hath made it for death-shade, And hath appointed for thick darkness.

17 P ero si no me hacen caso, mi alma llorará en secreto por culpa de la soberbia de ustedes; mis ojos se anegarán en lágrimas y llorarán amargamente, porque el rebaño del Señor será llevado cautivo.

And if ye do not hear it, In secret places doth my soul weep, because of pride, Yea, it weepeth sore, And the tear cometh down mine eyes, For the flock of Jehovah hath been taken captive.

18 « Diles al rey y a la reina que se humillen y se sienten en el suelo. Ha caído de su cabeza la corona que les daba potestad.

Say to the king and to the mistress: Make yourselves low -- sit still, For come down have your principalities, The crown of your beauty.

19 L as ciudades del Néguev han sido clausuradas, y no hay quien abra sus puertas; todo el pueblo de Judá ha sido llevado en cautiverio.

The cities of the south have been shut up, And there is none opening, Judah hath been removed -- all of her, She hath been removed completely --

20 L evanten los ojos, y vean a los que vienen del norte. ¿Dónde está ese hermoso rebaño que les fue confiado?

Lift up your eyes, and see those coming in from the north, Where the drove given to thee, thy beautiful flock?

21 ¿ Qué dirán cuando el Señor ponga al frente de ustedes a quienes ustedes creían que eran sus amigos? ¿No se retorcerán de dolor, como cuando una mujer está a punto de dar a luz?

What dost thou say, when He looketh after thee? And thou -- thou hast taught them over thee -- leaders for head? Do not pangs seize thee as a travailing woman?

22 S i acaso se preguntan por qué les sobrevino esto, sepan que fue por causa de su gran maldad. ¡Por eso fueron desgarrados sus vestidos! ¡Por eso quedó al descubierto su desnudez!

And when thou dost say in thy heart, `Wherefore have these met me?' For the abundance of thine iniquity Have thy skirts been uncovered, Have thy heels suffered violence.

23 ¿ Acaso pueden los etíopes cambiar de piel, o los leopardos cambiar sus manchas? ¡Pues tampoco ustedes pueden hacer el bien, ya que están habituados a hacer el mal!

Doth a Cushite change his skin? and a leopard his spots? Ye also are able to do good, who are accustomed to do evil.

24 P or lo tanto, yo los lanzaré al viento del desierto, para que desaparezcan como el tamo.

And I scatter them as stubble, Passing away, by a wind of the wilderness.

25 ¡ Ésa es la suerte de ustedes! ¡Ésa es la parte que les he asignado, por haberse olvidado de mí y por confiar en dioses falsos! —Palabra del Señor.

This thy lot, the portion of thy measures from Me -- an affirmation of Jehovah, Because thou hast forgotten me, And dost trust in falsehood.

26 » Pero yo también te desgarraré los vestidos y pondré al descubierto tu desnudez

I also have made bare thy skirts before thy face, And thy shame hath been seen.

27 y tus adulterios, tus jadeos e infidelidades en las colinas y en los campos, donde vi tu abominable conducta. »¡Ay de ti, Jerusalén! ¿Hasta cuándo seguirás sin purificarte?»

Thine adulteries, and thy neighings, The wickedness of thy whoredom, on heights in a field, I have seen thine abominations. Wo to thee, O Jerusalem, Thou art not cleansed, after when again?
