1 L a palabra del Señor vino a Jeremías, y le dijo:

The word that hath been unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying,

2 « Así ha dicho el Señor y Dios de Israel: “Escribe en un rollo de cuero cada una de las palabras que te he dicho.

`Thus spake Jehovah, God of Israel, saying, Write for thee all the words that I have spoken unto thee on a book.

3 P orque se acerca el día en que haré volver del exilio a mi pueblo, Israel y Judá. Los traeré a la tierra que le entregué a sus padres, y tomarán posesión de ella.”» —Palabra del Señor.

For, lo, days are coming -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- and I have turned back the captivity of My people Israel and Judah, said Jehovah, and I have caused them to turn back unto the land that I gave to their fathers, and they do possess it.'

4 E l Señor habló también acerca de Israel y de Judá. Éstas fueron sus palabras:

And these the words that Jehovah hath spoken concerning Israel and concerning Judah:

5 « Así ha dicho el Señor: “Se oye un grito de terror; un grito de miedo y no de paz.

Surely thus said Jehovah: A voice of trembling we have heard, Fear -- and there is no peace.

6 V amos a ver: ¿Desde cuando los hombres dan a luz? ¿Cómo es que a todos ellos los veo con los brazos en jarras, como mujeres parturientas? ¿Cómo es que todos ellos tienen pálido el rostro?

Ask, I pray you, and see, is a male bringing forth? Wherefore have I seen every man, His hands on his loins, as a travailing woman, And all faces have been turned to paleness?

7 ¡ Ah, qué terrible será ese día! ¡Terrible como ninguno otro! Serán tiempos de angustia para los de Jacob, pero lograrán sobrevivir!”

Wo! for great that day, without any like it, Yea, a time of adversity it to Jacob, Yet out of it he is saved.

8 » En aquel día, yo haré pedazos el yugo que pesa sobre su cuello, y reventaré sus coyundas. Ningún extranjero volverá a esclavizarlos. —Palabra del Señor de los ejércitos.

And it hath come to pass, in that day, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts, I break his yoke from off thy neck, And thy bands I draw away, And lay no more service on him do strangers.

9 » Sólo servirán al Señor su Dios, a David su rey, y a quien yo haga reinar en su lugar.

And they have served Jehovah their God, And David their king whom I raise up to them.

10 » Así que no tengas miedo, mi querido siervo Jacob. No tengas ningún temor, Israel, porque yo te salvaré, a ti y a tu descendencia, de esa tierra lejana donde ahora estás cautivo. Tú, Jacob, volverás de allá, y vivirás tranquilo y en paz, sin que nadie te infunda terror. —Palabra del Señor.

And thou, be not afraid, My servant Jacob, An affirmation of Jehovah, Nor be affrighted, O Israel, For, lo, I am saving thee from afar, And thy seed from the land of their captivity, And Jacob hath turned back and rested, And is quiet, and there is none troubling.

11 » Yo estoy contigo, para salvarte Destruiré a todas las naciones entre las cuales te esparcí, pero a ti no te destruiré. Por supuesto, no dejaré de castigarte, pero mi castigo será lo justo. —Palabra del Señor.

For with thee I, An affirmation of Jehovah -- to save thee, For I make an end of all the nations Whither I have scattered thee, Only, of thee I do not make an end, And I have chastised thee in judgment, And do not entirely acquit thee.

12 » Así ha dicho el Señor: “Tu fractura es incurable, y muy dolorosa tu llaga.

For thus said Jehovah: Incurable is thy breach, grievous thy stroke,

13 N o hay quien defienda tu caso. Ningún remedio sirve para sanar tu herida.

There is none judging thy cause to bind up, Healing medicines there are none for thee.

14 T odos tus amantes te han olvidado. Ya no te buscan. Y es que yo te herí como se hiere a un enemigo. Por causa de tu mucha maldad y de tus muchos pecados te azoté como a un cruel adversario.

all loving thee have forgotten thee, Thee they do not seek, For with the stroke of an enemy I smote thee, The chastisement of a fierce one, Because of the abundance of thy iniquity, Mighty have been thy sins!

15 ¿ Para qué gritar por causa de tu fractura? Tu dolor es incurable. Y te he tratado así por causa de tu mucha maldad y de tus muchos pecados.

What! -- thou criest concerning thy breach! Incurable thy pain, Because of the abundance of thy iniquity, Mighty have been thy sins! I have done these to thee.

16 P ero todos los que te devoran serán devorados; todos tus adversarios serán llevados al cautiverio. Los que te pisotearon serán pisoteados, y los que te saquearon serán saqueados.

Therefore all consuming thee are consumed, And all thine adversaries -- all of them -- Into captivity do go, And thy spoilers have been for a spoil, And all thy plunderers I give up to plunder.

17 A unque te han llamado ‘la despreciada’, y aunque dicen: ‘Ésta es Sión, de la que nadie se acuerda’, yo te devolveré la salud y sanaré tus heridas.” —Palabra del Señor.

For I increase health to thee, And from thy strokes I do heal thee, An affirmation of Jehovah, For `Outcast' they have called to thee, `Zion it, there is none seeking for her.'

18 » Así ha dicho el Señor: “Fíjate bien: Yo haré que cambie la suerte de las tiendas de Jacob. Tendré misericordia de sus campamentos; la ciudad será edificada sobre su colina, y el templo será restaurado.

Thus said Jehovah: Lo, I turn back the captivity of the tents of Jacob, And his dwelling places I pity, And the city hath been built on its heap, And the palace according to its ordinance remaineth.

19 D e en medio de ellos saldrán alabanzas, voces de una nación en pleno regocijo. Yo haré que, lejos de disminuir, el número de ellos se multiplique. Yo los multiplicaré, y aumentaré su número.

And gone forth from them hath thanksgiving, And the voice of playful ones, And I have multiplied them and they are not few, And made them honourable, and they are not small.

20 S us hijos volverán a ser lo que antes fueron, y su congregación será confirmada ante mí. ¡Yo castigaré a todos sus opresores!

And his sons have been as aforetime, And his company before Me is established, And I have seen after all his oppressors.

21 D e entre ellos surgirá su príncipe, que será quien los gobierne. Yo le permitiré acercarse a mí, y él se acercará; pues ¿de qué otra manera podría alguien atreverse a acercarse a mí?” —Palabra del Señor.

And his honourable one hath been of himself, And his ruler from his midst goeth forth, And I have caused him to draw near, And he hath drawn nigh unto Me, For who he who hath pledged his heart To draw nigh unto Me? An affirmation of Jehovah.

22 » Y ustedes serán mi pueblo, y yo seré su Dios.»

And ye have been to Me for a people, And I am to you for God.

23 L a tempestad del Señor se desata con furor; la tempestad que se está gestando caerá sobre la cabeza de los impíos.

Lo, a whirlwind of Jehovah -- Fury hath gone forth -- a cutting whirlwind, On the head of the wicked it stayeth.

24 E l ardor de la ira del Señor no se calmará hasta que haya realizado los designios de su corazón. Pero esto lo entenderán ustedes cuando ya sea demasiado tarde.

The fierceness of the anger of Jehovah Doth not turn back till His doing, Yea, till His establishing the devices of His heart, In the latter end of the days we consider it!
