1 H ijos de Israel, ésta es la palabra que el Señor ha pronunciado contra ustedes, contra toda la familia que él sacó de la tierra de Egipto. Escuchen bien:

Hear ye this word that Jehovah hath spoken concerning you, O sons of Israel, concerning all the family that I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying:

2 « Sólo a ustedes los he elegido de entre todas las familias de la tierra. Por lo tanto, yo los castigaré por todas sus maldades.»

Only you I have known of all families of the land, Therefore I charge on you all your iniquities.

3 ¿ Andan dos juntos, si no están de acuerdo?

Do two walk together if they have not met?

4 ¿ Ruge el león en la selva sin que haya presa? ¿Ruge el cachorro en su guarida, sin apresar nada?

Roar doth a lion in a forest and prey he hath none? Give out doth a young lion his voice from his habitation, If he hath not caught?

5 ¿ Cae el ave en la trampa, sin que haya cazador? ¿Salta del suelo la trampa sin que haya atrapado algo?

Doth a bird fall into a snare of the earth, And there is no gin for it? Doth a snare go up from the ground, And prey it captureth not?

6 ¿ Se da la alarma en la ciudad, sin que el pueblo se alborote? ¿Pasa algo malo en la ciudad, que el Señor no haya hecho?

Is a trumpet blown in a city, And do people not tremble? Is there affliction in a city, And Jehovah hath not done ?

7 L o cierto es que nada hace el Señor sin antes revelarlo a sus siervos los profetas.

For the Lord Jehovah doth nothing, Except He hath revealed His counsel unto His servants the prophets.

8 S i el león ruge, ¿quién no tiembla? Si el Señor habla, ¿quién no profetiza? Destrucción de Samaria

A lion hath roared -- who doth not fear? The Lord Jehovah hath spoken -- who doth not prophesy?

9 P roclamen en los palacios de Asdod, y en los palacios de Egipto, y digan: «Reúnanse sobre los montes de Samaria, y vean cuánta opresión y violencia se comete en esa ciudad.

Sound ye unto palaces in Ashdod, And to palaces in the land of Egypt, and say: Be ye gathered on mountains of Samaria, And see many troubles within her, And oppressed ones in her midst.

10 N o saben hacer lo recto. En sus palacios atesoran el fruto de su rapiña.» —Palabra del Señor.

And they have not known to act straightforwardly, An affirmation of Jehovah, Who are treasuring up violence and spoil in their palaces.

11 P or lo tanto, así ha dicho el Señor: «De todos los rincones de la tierra vendrá un enemigo, y derribará tu fortaleza y saqueará tus palacios.»

Therefore, thus said the Lord Jehovah: An adversary -- and surrounding the land, And he hath brought down from thee thy strength, And spoiled have been thy palaces.

12 A sí ha dicho el Señor: «Los hijos de Israel, que en Samaria se entronizan en el borde de una cama o en el costado de un diván, escaparán como cuando un pastor logra rescatar, de las fauces del león, sólo dos piernas de una oveja, o la punta de una oreja.

Thus said Jehovah: As the shepherd delivereth from the lion's mouth Two legs, or a piece of an ear, So delivered are the sons of Israel, Who are sitting in Samaria on the corner of a bed, And in Damascus a couch.

13 » ¡Escuchen esto, y háganlo saber a la casa de Jacob! —Palabra del Señor, el Dios de los ejércitos.

Hear ye and testify to the house of Jacob, An affirmation of the Lord Jehovah, God of Hosts.

14 » El día que yo castigue las rebeliones de Israel, derribaré también los altares de Betel. Los cuernos del altar serán tronchados, y rodarán por tierra.

For in the day of My charging the transgressions of Israel on him, I have laid a charge on the altars of Beth-El, And cut off have been the horns of the altar, And they have fallen to the earth.

15 A demás, derribaré la casa de invierno y la casa de verano, y pondré fin a las casas de marfil. ¡Muchas casas quedarán en ruinas!» —Palabra del Señor.

And I have smitten the winter-house with the summer-house, And perished have houses of ivory, And consumed have been many houses, An affirmation of Jehovah!
