1 Y sucedió que el pueblo se quejó a oídos del Señor, y el Señor oyó sus quejas y ardió en ira, y un fuego del Señor se encendió en medio de ellos y consumió uno de los extremos del campamento.

And the people is evil, as those sighing habitually in the ears of Jehovah, and Jehovah heareth, and His anger burneth, and the fire of Jehovah burneth among them, and consumeth in the extremity of the camp.

2 E ntonces el pueblo pidió ayuda a Moisés, y Moisés oró al Señor y el fuego se apagó.

And the people cry unto Moses, and Moses prayeth unto Jehovah, and the fire is quenched;

3 Y Moisés llamó a ese lugar Tabera, porque allí el fuego del Señor se encendió contra ellos.

and he calleth the name of that place Taberah, for the fire of Jehovah hath `burned' among them.

4 P ero la gente extranjera que se mezcló con ellos sintió un apetito incontenible, y los hijos de Israel volvieron a llorar y dijeron: «¡Cómo nos gustaría que alguien nos diera a comer carne!

And the rabble who in its midst have lusted greatly, and the sons of Israel also turn back and weep, and say, `Who doth give us flesh?

5 ¡ Cómo extrañamos el pescado que comíamos en Egipto! ¡Y los pepinos, melones, puerros, cebollas y ajos que nos regalaban!

We have remembered the fish which we do eat in Egypt for nought, the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick;

6 ¡ Ahora andamos con la garganta reseca, pues no vemos nada más que este maná!»

and now our soul dry, there is not anything, save the manna, before our eyes.'

7 E l maná se parecía a la semilla de culantro; tenía un color como de bedelio,

And the manna is as coriander seed, and its aspect as the aspect of bdolach;

8 y su sabor era como el del aceite nuevo. El pueblo se esparcía para recogerlo, y lo desmenuzaba entre dos piedras o lo machacaba en morteros, y lo cocía en un caldero o hacía tortas con él.

the people have turned aside and gathered, and ground with millstones, or beat in a mortar, and boiled in a pan, and made it cakes, and its taste hath been as the taste of the moisture of oil.

9 D urante la noche, al caer el rocío, el maná caía también sobre el campamento.

And in the descending of the dew on the camp by night, the manna descendeth upon it.

10 M oisés oyó que el pueblo lloraba por sus familias, cada uno a la puerta de su tienda, y la ira del Señor se encendió en gran manera, y también a Moisés le pareció mal.

And Moses heareth the people weeping by its families, each at the opening of his tent, and the anger of Jehovah burneth exceedingly, and in the eyes of Moses evil.

11 E ntonces Moisés le reclamó al Señor: «¿Por qué le has hecho este mal a tu siervo? ¿Por qué no soy digno de tu bondad? ¿Por qué has puesto sobre mí la carga de todo este pueblo?

And Moses saith unto Jehovah, `Why hast Thou done evil to Thy servant? and why have I not found grace in Thine eyes -- to put the burden of all this people upon me?

12 ¿ Acaso yo lo concebí? ¿O acaso yo lo engendré, para que me pidas llevarlo en mi seno, como si fuera yo su madre y los estuviera amamantando, hasta la tierra que prometiste dar a sus padres?

I -- have I conceived all this people? I -- have I begotten it, that Thou sayest unto me, Carry it in thy bosom as the nursing father beareth the suckling, unto the ground which Thou hast sworn to its fathers?

13 ¿ De dónde voy yo a sacar carne para alimentar a todo este pueblo? Ellos lloran, y vienen a decirme: “¡Danos a comer carne!”

Whence have I flesh to give to all this people? for they weep unto me, saying, Give to us flesh, and we eat.

14 ¡ Yo solo no puedo soportar a todo este pueblo! ¡Me es una carga demasiado pesada!

I am not able -- I alone -- to bear all this people, for too heavy for me;

15 S i así me vas a tratar, voy a agradecerte que me mates. Y si acaso merezco tu favor, ¡no me dejes ver mi propia desgracia!»

and if thus Thou art doing to me -- slay me, I pray Thee; slay, if I have found grace in thine eyes, and let me not look on mine affliction.'

16 E l Señor le dijo a Moisés: «Junta a setenta ancianos de Israel, de los que tú sepas que son ancianos y jefes del pueblo, y llévalos hasta la entrada del tabernáculo de reunión. Diles que esperen allí contigo.

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Gather to Me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou hast known that they are elders of the people, and its authorities; and thou hast taken them unto the tent of meeting, and they have stationed themselves there with thee,

17 Y o descenderé y hablaré allí contigo, y tomaré del espíritu que está en ti y lo pondré en ellos, y ellos sobrellevarán contigo la carga del pueblo. Ya no la llevarás tú solo.

and I have come down and spoken with thee there, and have kept back of the Spirit which upon thee, and have put on them, and they have borne with thee some of the burden of the people, and thou dost not bear thyself alone.

18 P ero dile al pueblo que se santifique para mañana. Ustedes van a comer carne, pues han llorado ante mí y han dicho: “¡Cómo quisiéramos que alguien nos diera a comer carne! La verdad, ¡nos iba mejor en Egipto!” Así que yo, el Señor, voy a darles a comer carne.

`And unto the people thou dost say, Sanctify yourselves for to-morrow, and ye have eaten flesh (for ye have wept in the ears of Jehovah, saying, Who doth give us flesh? for we good in Egypt) -- and Jehovah hath given to you flesh, and ye have eaten.

19 Y no la comerán un día ni dos; ni cinco, diez o veinte días,

Ye do not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, nor ten days, nor twenty days; --

20 s ino todo un mes, hasta que les salga por las narices, y se harten de comerla, por haberme menospreciado. Yo soy el Señor y estoy en medio de ustedes; pero ustedes han llorado ante mí y han dicho: “¿Para qué salimos de Egipto y vinimos acá?”»

unto a month of days, till that it come out from your nostrils, and it hath become to you an abomination; because that ye have loathed Jehovah, who in your midst, and weep before Him, saying, Why is this? -- we have come out of Egypt!'

21 P ero Moisés dijo: «Este pueblo, en medio del cual estoy, llega a los seiscientos mil de a pie. ¿Y tú dices que les darás a comer carne todo un mes?

And Moses saith, `Six hundred thousand footmen the people in whose midst I; and Thou, Thou hast said, Flesh I give to them, and they have eaten, a month of days!

22 ¿ Acaso van a degollarse para ellos ovejas y bueyes suficientes? ¿O van a pescarse para ellos todos los peces del mar, para que les alcance?»

Is flock and herd slaughtered for them, that one hath found for them? -- are all the fishes of the sea gathered for them -- that one hath found for them?'

23 Y el Señor le respondió a Moisés: «¿Acaso mi mano se ha acortado? ¡Ahora vas a ver si mi palabra se cumple, o no!»

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Is the hand of Jehovah become short? now thou dost see whether My word meeteth thee or not.'

24 M oisés salió de allí y repitió ante el pueblo las palabras del Señor; luego reunió a los setenta ancianos del pueblo, y los hizo esperar alrededor del tabernáculo.

And Moses goeth out, and speaketh unto the people the words of Jehovah, and gathereth seventy men of the elders of the people, and causeth them to stand round about the tent,

25 E ntonces el Señor descendió en la nube, y habló con él. Tomó del espíritu que estaba en él, y lo puso en los setenta ancianos; y cuando el espíritu se posó en ellos, comenzaron a profetizar, y no dejaban de hacerlo.

and Jehovah cometh down in the cloud, and speaketh unto him, and keepeth back of the Spirit which on him, and putteth on the seventy men of the elders; and it cometh to pass at the resting of the Spirit on them, that they prophesy, and do not cease.

26 E n el campamento se habían quedado Eldad y Medad, dos varones sobre los cuales también se posó el espíritu. Aunque estaban entre los escogidos, no se habían presentado en el tabernáculo; sin embargo, comenzaron a profetizar en el campamento.

And two of the men are left in the camp, the name of the one Eldad, and the name of the second Medad, and the spirit resteth upon them, (and they are among those written, and have not gone out to the tent), and they prophesy in the camp;

27 E ntonces un joven fue corriendo a decirle a Moisés: «¡Eldad y Medad están profetizando en el campamento!»

and the young man runneth, and declareth to Moses, and saith, `Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.'

28 J osué hijo de Nun, que era ayudante cercano de Moisés, le dijo: «Moisés, mi señor, ¡no se lo permitas!»

And Joshua son of Nun, minister of Moses, of his young men, answereth and saith, `My lord Moses, restrain them.'

29 P ero Moisés le respondió: «¿Acaso tienes celos por mí? ¡Cómo quisiera yo que todo el pueblo del Señor fuera profeta! ¡Cómo quisiera yo que el Señor pusiera su espíritu sobre ellos!»

And Moses saith to him, `Art thou zealous for me? O that all Jehovah's people were prophets! that Jehovah would put His Spirit upon them!'

30 Y enseguida Moisés volvió al campamento, en compañía de los ancianos de Israel.

And Moses is gathered unto the camp, he and the elders of Israel.

31 V ino entonces del mar un viento de parte del Señor, que trajo codornices y las dejó caer sobre el campamento. Éstas cubrían la superficie de la tierra hasta un día de camino, por un lado, y un día de camino por el otro, y se amontonaban a una altura de casi dos codos.

And a spirit hath journeyed from Jehovah, and cutteth off quails from the sea, and leaveth by the camp, as a day's journey here, and as a day's journey there, round about the camp, and about two cubits, on the face of the land.

32 E l pueblo estuvo levantado todo ese día y toda esa noche, y todo el día siguiente, para recoger codornices. El que menos recogió, hizo diez montones, y tendieron las codornices alrededor del campamento.

And the people rise all that day, and all the night, and all the day after, and gather the quails -- he who hath least hath gathered ten homers -- and they spread them out for themselves round about the camp.

33 P ero todavía tenían la carne entre los dientes, todavía no la masticaban, cuando la ira del Señor se encendió entre el pueblo y los hirió con una plaga mortal.

The flesh is yet between their teeth -- it is not yet cut off -- and the anger of Jehovah hath burned among the people, and Jehovah smiteth among the people -- a very great smiting;

34 P or eso el nombre de aquel lugar se llamó Quibrot Hatavá, porque allí sepultaron al pueblo glotón.

and calleth the name of that place Kibroth-Hattaavah, for there they have buried the people who lust.

35 D e Quibrot Hatavá, el pueblo se dirigió a Jaserot, y en Jaserot se quedó.

From Kibroth-Hattaavah have the people journeyed to Hazeroth, and they are in Hazeroth.
