1 E n cuanto Jeremías terminó de comunicar al pueblo todas las palabras por las que el Señor su Dios lo había enviado a hablar con ellos,

And it cometh to pass, when Jeremiah doth finish to speak unto all the people all the words of Jehovah their God, with which Jehovah their God hath sent him unto them -- all these words --

2 t anto Azarías hijo de Osaías y Johanán hijo de Careaj como otros insolentes le dijeron a Jeremías: «¡Lo que dices es una mentira! El Señor nuestro Dios no te ha enviado a decirnos que no vayamos a vivir en Egipto.

that Azariah son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan son of Kareah, and all the proud men, speak unto Jeremiah, saying, `Falsehood thou art speaking; Jehovah our God hath not sent thee to say, Do not enter Egypt to sojourn there;

3 E s Baruc hijo de Nerías quien te incita contra nosotros, para entregarnos en manos de los caldeos, y matarnos y hacer que nos lleven cautivos a Babilonia.»

for Baruch son of Neriah is moving thee against us, in order to give us up into the hand of the Chaldeans, to put us to death, and to remove us to Babylon.'

4 A sí que Johanán hijo de Careaj no hizo caso a esta advertencia del Señor para que se quedaran en la tierra de Judá, ni tampoco ninguno de los oficiales militares, ni nadie entre el pueblo.

And Johanan son of Kareah, and all the heads of the forces, and all the people, have not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah, to dwell in the land of Judah;

5 M ás bien, Johanán hijo de Careaj y todos los oficiales militares tomaron a todos los sobrevivientes de Judá que habían regresado de todas las naciones por las que habían sido dispersados y que querían vivir en tierra de Judá,

and Johanan son of Kareah, and all the heads of the forces, take all the remnant of Judah who have turned from all the nations whither they were driven to sojourn in the land of Judah,

6 e s decir, a todos los que Nabuzaradán, el capitán de la guardia, había dejado con Gedalías hijo de Ajicán, hijo de Safán (hombres, mujeres y niños, las hijas del rey, el profeta Jeremías y Baruc hijo de Nerías),

the men, and the women, and the infant, and the daughters of the king, and every person that Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, had left with Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, and Jeremiah the prophet, and Baruch son of Neriah,

7 y se internaron en Egipto, en desobediencia a la voz del Señor. Y así llegaron a Tafnes.

and they enter the land of Egypt, for they have not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah, and they enter unto Tahpanhes.

8 A llí en Tafnes, la palabra del Señor vino a Jeremías, y le dijo:

And there is a word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah in Tahpanhes, saying,

9 « Ve a la entrada del palacio del faraón en Tafnes, y allí toma unas piedras grandes y entiérralas en el pavimento, y cúbrelas luego con barro, a la vista de los hombres de Judá.

`Take in thy hand great stones, and thou hast hidden them, in the clay, in the brick-kiln, that at the opening of the house of Pharaoh in Tahpanhes, before the eyes of the men of Judah,

10 Y diles de mi parte: “Yo, el Señor de los ejércitos y Dios de Israel declaro que voy a traer hasta este lugar a mi siervo, el rey Nabucodonosor de Babilonia. Sobre estas piedras que Jeremías ha enterrado pondré su trono, y él extenderá su pabellón.

and thou hast said unto them: Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel: `Lo, I am sending, and I have taken Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, My servant, and I have set his throne above these stones that I have hid, and he hath stretched out his pavilion over them,

11 P orque Nabucodonosor vendrá y atacará a Egipto. Unos morirán porque tenían que morir, otros serán llevados cautivos, y otros más morirán a filo de espada.

and he hath come, and smitten the land of Egypt -- those who for death to death, and those who for captivity to captivity, and those who for the sword to the sword.

12 Y le prenderá fuego a los templos de los dioses de Egipto, y a sus dioses los llevará al cautiverio. Arrasará con la tierra de Egipto, como cuando el pastor limpia su capa, y luego saldrá del país en paz.

And I have kindled a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt, and it hath burned them, and he hath taken them captive, and covered himself with the land of Egypt, as cover himself doth the shepherd with his garment, and he hath gone forth thence in peace;

13 A demás, despedazará las estatuas de Bet Semes y les prenderá fuego a los templos de los dioses de Egipto.”»

and he hath broken the standing pillars of the house of the sun, that in the land of Egypt, and the houses of the gods of Egypt he doth burn with fire.'
