1 » Durante el primer año del reinado de Darío el medo, yo mismo estuve a su lado para animarlo y fortalecerlo. Los reyes del norte y del sur

`And I, in the first year of Darius the Mede, my standing for a strengthener, and for a stronghold to him;

2 » Ahora te daré a conocer la verdad. Todavía habrá tres reyes en Persia, y hasta un cuarto rey, el cual llegará a ser más rico que los otros tres. Cuando sienta que sus riquezas le dan poder, invitará a todos ellos a levantarse contra el reino de Grecia.

and, now, truth I declare to thee, Lo, yet three kings are standing for Persia, and the fourth doth become far richer than all, and according to his strength by his riches he stirreth up the whole, with the kingdom of Javan.

3 L uego se levantará un rey muy valiente, el cual ejercerá su dominio haciendo gala de poder e implantando su voluntad,

And a mighty king hath stood, and he hath ruled a great dominion, and hath done according to his will;

4 p ero en cuanto se levante su reino, se dividirá y se esparcirá por los cuatro vientos del cielo, pero no entre sus descendientes ni con el mismo dominio que antes ejerció, porque su reino será arrancado de raíz y entregado a otros fuera de ellos.

and according to his standing is his kingdom broken, and divided to the four winds of the heavens, and not to his posterity, nor according to his dominion that he ruled, for his kingdom is plucked up -- and for others apart from these.

5 » El rey del sur cobrará fuerza, pero uno de sus príncipes llegará a ser más fuerte y poderoso que él, y grande será su dominio.

`And a king of the south -- even of his princes -- doth become strong, and doth prevail against him, and hath ruled; a great dominion his dominion.

6 A l cabo de algunos años habrá una alianza: la hija del rey del sur se casará con el rey del norte, y se hará la paz. Pero ella no podrá mantener su fuerza, ni él podrá permanecer en el poder, sino que ella será traicionada, junto con su hijo y los que la acompañaron, y con los que en ese tiempo estaban de su parte.

`And at the end of years they do join themselves together, and a daughter of the king of the south doth come in unto the king of the north to do upright things; and she doth not retain the power of the arm; and he doth not stand, nor his arm; and she is given up, she, and those bringing her in, and her child, and he who is strengthening her in times.

7 » Pero de sus raíces surgirá un renuevo, uno de sus descendientes, y ocupará el trono. Con su ejército atacará al rey del norte y tomará la fortaleza, y luego de vencerlo hará con él lo que se le antoje.

`And hath stood up from a branch of her roots, his station, and he cometh in unto the bulwark, yea, he cometh into a stronghold of the king of the south, and hath wrought against them, and hath done mightily;

8 H asta se llevará a Egipto sus dioses e imágenes fundidas, lo mismo que sus objetos preciosos de plata y de oro, y durante muchos años se mantendrá en contra del rey del norte.

and also their gods, with their princes, with their desirable vessels of silver and gold, into captivity he bringeth Egypt; and he doth stand more years than the king of the north.

9 L uego incursionará en el territorio del rey del sur, y entonces volverá a su país.

`And the king of the south hath come into the kingdom, and turned back unto his own land;

10 » Más tarde, sus hijos reunirán a un ejército muy numeroso y, como una inundación, se lanzarán al ataque y lo arrasarán todo, llevando la guerra hasta la fortaleza.

and his sons stir themselves up, and have gathered a multitude of great forces, and he hath certainly come in, and overflowed, and passed through, and he turneth back, and they stir themselves up unto his stronghold.

11 E sto despertará la ira del rey del sur, que con un gran ejército saldrá a pelear contra el rey del norte, y librará una gran batalla, en la que éste será derrotado a pesar de contar con un gran ejército.

And the king of the south doth become embittered, and hath gone forth and fought with him, with the king of the north, and hath caused a great multitude to stand, and the multitude hath been given into his hand,

12 A l volver con el botín, se llenará de soberbia y ejecutará gente por millares, aunque no prevalecerá

and he hath carried away the multitude, his heart is high, and he hath caused myriads to fall, and he doth not become strong.

13 p orque el rey del norte volverá con un ejército más numeroso que el primero, y al cabo de algunos años volverá a hacerle la guerra.

`And the king of the north hath turned back, and hath caused a multitude to stand, greater than the first, and at the end of the times a second time he doth certainly come in with a great force, and with much substance;

14 » Entonces muchos se levantarán en armas contra el rey del sur, y también de tu pueblo se levantará gente violenta, para cumplir la visión, pero no podrán vencer.

and in those times many do stand up against the king of the south, and sons of the destroyers of thy people do lift themselves up to establish the vision -- and they have stumbled.

15 V endrá luego el rey del norte y levantará baluartes, y tomará la ciudad fuerte, y las fuerzas del sur no podrán resistir ni con sus mejores tropas, porque se quedarán sin fuerzas.

`And the king of the north cometh in, and poureth out a mount, and hath captured fenced cities; and the arms of the south do not stand, nor the people of his choice, yea, there is no power to stand.

16 E l ejército que los ataque hará todo lo que quiera hacer, y no habrá nadie que se le pueda enfrentar; llegará hasta la tierra gloriosa, y ésta será consumida bajo su poder.

And he who is coming unto him doth according to his will, and there is none standing before him; and he standeth in the desirable land, and wholly in his hand.

17 D espués se preparará para venir con todas las fuerzas de su reino, y hará un pacto con el rey del sur, y para destruirlo le dará como esposa una de sus hijas, pero no logrará vencerlo.

And he setteth his face to go in with the strength of his whole kingdom, and upright ones with him; and he hath wrought, and the daughter of women he giveth to him, to corrupt her; and she doth not stand, nor is for him.

18 S e dirigirá entonces a los países de las costas, y a muchos los conquistará, pero un príncipe pondrá fin a su afrenta, y hasta logrará revertir sobre él esa afrenta.

`And he turneth back his face to the isles, and hath captured many; and a prince hath caused his reproach of himself to cease; without his reproach he turneth back to him.

19 S e volverá entonces contra las fortalezas de su tierra, pero fracasará en su intento y nunca más se sabrá de él.

And he turneth back his face to the strongholds of his land, and hath stumbled and fallen, and is not found.

20 » Después de él se levantará uno que mandará recaudar tributos para mantener el lustre de su reino, pero muy pronto será derrocado, aunque no morirá en el campo de batalla.

`And stood up on his station hath causing an exactor to pass over the honour of the kingdom, and in a few days he is destroyed, and not in anger, nor in battle.

21 S erá sucedido por un hombre despreciable, que no recibirá los honores debidos a un rey, pero que vendrá sin aviso y usurpará el trono por medio de zalamerías.

`And stood up on his station hath a despicable one, and they have not given unto him the honour of the kingdom, and he hath come in quietly, and hath strengthened the kingdom by flatteries.

22 D elante de él las fuerzas contrarias serán derrotadas por completo, barridas como por una inundación, y con ellas perecerá el príncipe del pacto.

And the arms of the flood are overflowed from before him, and are broken; and also the leader of the covenant.

23 A los que pacten con él los engañará y los atacará, y los vencerá con un ejército reducido.

And after they join themselves unto him, he worketh deceit, and hath increased, and hath been strong by a few of the nation.

24 C uando la provincia se encuentre en paz y con abundancia, la atacará y hará en ella lo que nunca hicieron sus padres, ni los padres de sus padres, pues repartirá entre sus soldados el botín de guerra, y los despojos y riquezas, y llevará a cabo sus planes contra las fortalezas, aunque sólo por cierto tiempo.

Peaceably even into the fertile places of the province He cometh, and he hath done that which his fathers did not, nor his fathers' fathers; prey, and spoil, and substance, to them he scattereth, and against fenced places he deviseth his devices, even for a time.

25 C on encono incitará a sus fuerzas, un gran ejército, a lanzarse contra el rey del sur; y el rey del sur entrará en batalla con un ejército muy numeroso y fuerte, pero no podrá vencerlo porque será traicionado.

`And he stirreth up his power and his heart against the king of the south with a great force, and the king of the south stirreth himself up to battle with a very great and mighty force, and standeth not, for they devise devices against him,

26 A un los que comían con él lo traicionarán, y su ejército será derrotado, y muchos perderán la vida.

and those eating his portion of food destroy him, and his force overfloweth, and fallen have many wounded.

27 E stos dos reyes sólo pensarán en perjudicar al otro, y en la misma mesa se engañarán; pero esto no les servirá de nada, porque el plazo aún no se habrá cumplido.

`And both of the kings' hearts to do evil, and at one table they speak lies, and it doth not prosper, for yet the end at a time appointed.

28 E ntonces el rey del norte volverá a su país con grandes riquezas, aunque antes se propondrá dañar al pacto santo, y luego de satisfacer sus deseos regresará a su tierra.

And he turneth back his land with great substance, and his heart against the holy covenant, and he hath wrought, and turned back to his land.

29 » En el momento señalado, este rey volverá al sur, aunque este último ataque no será como el primero,

At the appointed time he turneth back, and hath come against the south, and it is not as the former, and as the latter.

30 p orque las naves de Quitín lo atacarán y lo humillarán, aunque él, en su enojo, se volverá contra el pacto santo y hará lo que se le antoje, pero se mostrará amable con los que abandonen el santo pacto.

And ships of Chittim have come in against him, and he hath been pained, and hath turned back, and hath been insolent toward the holy covenant, and hath wrought, and turned back, and he understandeth concerning those forsaking the holy covenant.

31 S us tropas se dedicarán a profanar el santuario y la fortaleza, y suspenderán el sacrificio continuo y en su lugar pondrán la abominación desoladora.

And strong ones out of him stand up, and have polluted the sanctuary, the stronghold, and have turned aside the continual, and appointed the desolating abomination.

32 A los que violen el pacto él los seducirá con engaños, pero el pueblo que conoce a su Dios se le opondrá con todas sus fuerzas.

And those acting wickedly the covenant, he defileth by flatteries; and the people knowing their God are strong, and have wrought.

33 L os sabios del pueblo instruirán a muchos, aunque por algún tiempo morirán a filo de espada o en el fuego, o serán llevados cautivos y despojados de sus propiedades.

And the teachers of the people give understanding to many; and they have stumbled by sword, and by flame, by captivity, and by spoil -- days.

34 A l caer, pocos serán los que les ayuden, aunque muchos fingirán apoyarlos.

And in their stumbling, they are helped -- a little help, and joined to them have been many with flatteries.

35 T ambién algunos de los sabios caerán, para ser depurados, limpiados y emblanquecidos hasta el momento señalado, porque aun para esto hay un plazo establecido.

And some of the teachers do stumble for refining by them, and for purifying, and for making white -- till the end of the time, for yet for a time appointed.

36 » El rey hará todo lo que quiera, y tanta será su soberbia que se creerá más grande que cualquier dios; hablará con insolencia contra el Dios de los dioses, y tendrá éxito mientras la ira de Dios no llegue a su límite, porque lo que ha sido determinado se cumplirá.

`And the king hath done according to his will, and exalteth himself, and magnifieth himself against every god, and against the God of gods he speaketh wonderful things, and hath prospered till the indignation hath been completed, for that which is determined hath been done.

37 S erá tal su soberbia que no mostrará ningún respeto por los dioses de sus padres, ni por los dioses de sus mujeres, ni por ningún otro dios, porque se creerá mayor que todos ellos.

And unto the God of his fathers he doth not attend, nor to the desire of women, yea, to any god he doth not attend, for against all he magnifieth himself.

38 E n cambio, honrará al dios de las fortalezas, dios que sus padres no conocieron, y lo honrará con oro y plata, y con piedras preciosas y con objetos muy costosos.

And to the god of strongholds, on his station, he giveth honour; yea, to a god whom his fathers knew not he giveth honour, with gold, and with silver, and with precious stone, and with desirable things.

39 C on la ayuda de un dios ajeno tomará las fortalezas más inexpugnables, colmará de honores a los que le reconozcan, y repartirá la tierra a cambio de dinero.

And he hath dealt in the fortresses of the strongholds with a strange god whom he hath acknowledged; he multiplieth honour, and hath caused them to rule over many, and the ground he apportioneth at a price.

40 » Cuando llegue el momento del fin, el rey del sur luchará contra el rey del norte, y éste se levantará contra aquél como una tempestad, con carros de guerra y gente de a caballo, y con muchas naves, y lo atacará por tierra, y lo arrasará como una inundación.

`And at the time of the end, push himself forward with him doth a king of the south, and storm against him doth a king of the north, with chariot, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he hath come in to the lands, and hath overflowed, and passed over,

41 I nvadirá la tierra gloriosa, y muchas provincias serán conquistadas, aunque Edom y Moab, y la mayoría de los hijos de Amón lograrán escapar.

and hath come into the desirable land, and many do stumble, and these escape from his hand: Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the sons of Ammon.

42 E xtenderá su mano contra muchos países, y ni Egipto podrá librarse de él.

`And he sendeth forth his hand upon the lands, and the land of Egypt is not for an escape;

43 S e apoderará de los tesoros de oro y plata de Egipto, y de todos sus objetos preciosos, y luego se apoderará de las riquezas de Libia y de Etiopía.

and he hath ruled over treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the desirable things of Egypt, and Lubim and Cushim at his steps.

44 P ero cuando se entere de las noticias del oriente y del norte se llenará de temor y, lleno de ira, saldrá para destruir y matar a muchos.

`And reports trouble him out of the east and out of the north, and he hath gone forth in great fury to destroy, and to devote many to destruction;

45 P lantará las tiendas de su palacio entre los mares y el monte santo y glorioso, pero su fin llegará y no habrá nadie que lo ayude.

and he planteth the tents of his palace between the seas and the holy desirable mountain, and hath come unto his end, and there is no helper to him.
