1 E l día primero del mes sexto del año segundo del rey Darío, la palabra del Señor vino por medio del profeta Hageo a Zorobabel hijo de Salatiel, gobernador de Judá, y a Josué hijo de Josadac, sumo sacerdote. Y dijo:

In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, hath a word of Jehovah been by the hand of Haggai the prophet, unto Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and unto Joshua son of Josedech, the high priest, saying:

2 « Así ha dicho el Señor de los ejércitos: Este pueblo dice: “Todavía no es tiempo de que la casa del Señor sea reedificada.”»

Thus spake Jehovah of Hosts, saying: This people! -- they have said, `The time hath not come, The time the house of Jehovah to be built.'

3 E ntonces la palabra del Señor vino por medio del profeta Hageo, y dijo:

And there is a word of Jehovah by the hand of Haggai the prophet, saying:

4 « ¿Acaso sí es tiempo de que ustedes habiten en sus casas artesonadas, y de que esta casa esté desierta?

Is it time for you -- you! To dwell in your covered houses, And this house to lie waste?

5 P ues así ha dicho el Señor de los ejércitos: “Piensen bien lo que hacen.

And now, thus said Jehovah of Hosts, Set your heart to your ways.

6 U stedes siembran mucho, y recogen poco; comen, y no se sacian; beben, y no quedan satisfechos; se visten, y no entran en calor; y los que trabajan por un jornal lo reciben en saco roto.”

Ye have sown much, and brought in little, To eat, and not to satiety, To drink, and not to drunkenness, To clothe, and none hath heat, And he who is hiring himself out, Is hiring himself for a bag pierced through.

7 » Así ha dicho el Señor de los ejércitos: “Piensen en lo que hacen.

Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: Set your heart to your ways.

8 V ayan al monte, y traigan madera, y reconstruyan mi casa. Yo pondré en ella mi beneplácito, y seré glorificado.” Yo, el Señor, lo he dicho.

Go up the mountain, and ye have brought in wood, And build the house, and I am pleased with it. And I am honoured, said Jehovah.

9 » Ustedes buscan mucho, y encuentran poco. Lo que ustedes guardan en su casa, yo de un soplo lo disipo. ¿Y por qué? Porque mi casa está desierta, mientras cada uno de ustedes corre a su propia casa. —Palabra del Señor de los ejércitos.

Looking for much, and lo, little, And ye brought home, and I blew on it, Wherefore? -- an affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts, Because of My house that is waste, And ye are running -- each to his house,

10 » Por culpa de ustedes los cielos han retenido la lluvia, y la tierra se niega a dar sus frutos.

Therefore, over you refrained have the heavens from dew, And the land hath refrained its increase.

11 Y o hice venir la sequía sobre esta tierra, sobre los montes y el trigo, sobre el vino y el aceite, sobre hombres y animales, sobre todo los productos de la tierra y sobre todo trabajo manual.»

And I proclaim draught on the land, And on the mountains, and on the corn, And on the new wine, and on the oil, And on what the ground doth bring forth, And on man, and on beast, And on all labour of the hands.'

12 T anto Zorobabel hijo de Salatiel como Josué hijo de Josadac, sumo sacerdote, lo mismo que el resto del pueblo, oyeron la voz del Señor su Dios y las palabras del profeta Hageo, tal y como el Señor su Dios le había ordenado decir, y todo el pueblo tuvo temor delante del Señor.

And Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, and Joshua son of Josedech, the high priest, and all the remnant of the people, do hearken to the voice of Jehovah their God, and unto the words of Haggai the prophet, as Jehovah their God had sent him, and the people are afraid of the face of Jehovah.

13 E ntonces Hageo habló con el pueblo por mandato del Señor, y como enviado suyo dijo: «Yo estoy con ustedes.» —Palabra del Señor.

And Haggai, messenger of Jehovah, in messages of Jehovah, speaketh to the people, saying: `I with you, an affirmation of Jehovah.'

14 E l Señor despertó el espíritu de Zorobabel hijo de Salatiel, que era gobernador de Judá, y el espíritu de Josué hijo de Josadac, que era sumo sacerdote, lo mismo que el espíritu del resto del pueblo, y todos ellos acudieron a trabajar en la casa de su Dios, el Señor de los ejércitos.

And Jehovah doth stir up the spirit of Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua son of Josedech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people, and they come in, and do work in the house of Jehovah of Hosts their God,

15 E ra el día veinticuatro del mes sexto, del año segundo del rey Darío.

in the twenty and fourth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.
