1 Д ругого року царя Дарія, шостого місяця, першого дня місяця, було Господнє слово через пророка Огія до Зоровавеля, Шеалтіїлового сина, Юдиного намісника, та до Ісуса, Єгосадакового сина, великого священика, кажучи:

In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, hath a word of Jehovah been by the hand of Haggai the prophet, unto Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and unto Joshua son of Josedech, the high priest, saying:

2 Т ак говорить Господь Саваот, промовляючи: Народ цей говорить: Не прийшов тепер час дому Господнього, щоб бути збудованим!

Thus spake Jehovah of Hosts, saying: This people! -- they have said, `The time hath not come, The time the house of Jehovah to be built.'

3 І було Господнє слово через пророка Огія, говорячи:

And there is a word of Jehovah by the hand of Haggai the prophet, saying:

4 Ч и час вам сидіти по ваших домах, покритих кафлями, хоч дім цей збурений?

Is it time for you -- you! To dwell in your covered houses, And this house to lie waste?

5 А тепер отак промовляє Господь Саваот: Зверніть ваше серце до ваших доріг!

And now, thus said Jehovah of Hosts, Set your heart to your ways.

6 Б агато ви сієте, та збираєте мало, їсте, та не насичуєтеся, п'єте та не напиваєтеся, зодягаєтеся та не тепло вам, а той, хто заробляє, заробляє для дірявого гаманця.

Ye have sown much, and brought in little, To eat, and not to satiety, To drink, and not to drunkenness, To clothe, and none hath heat, And he who is hiring himself out, Is hiring himself for a bag pierced through.

7 Т ак говорить Господь Саваот: Зверніть ваше серце до ваших доріг!

Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: Set your heart to your ways.

8 В иходьте на гору, і спроваджуйте дерево, і храм цей будуйте, і в ньому знайду Я вподобу, та буду шанований, каже Господь.

Go up the mountain, and ye have brought in wood, And build the house, and I am pleased with it. And I am honoured, said Jehovah.

9 З вертаєтесь до численного, та виходить ось мало, і що приносите в дім, то розвіюю те. Защо? питає Господь Саваот. За храм Мій, що збурений він, а ви кожен женете до дому свого.

Looking for much, and lo, little, And ye brought home, and I blew on it, Wherefore? -- an affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts, Because of My house that is waste, And ye are running -- each to his house,

10 Т ому то над вами затрималось небо давати росу, а земля урожай свій задержала.

Therefore, over you refrained have the heavens from dew, And the land hath refrained its increase.

11 І Я кликав посуху на Край, і на гори, і на збіжжя, і на сік виноградний, і на молоду оливку, і на те, що земля видає, і на людину, і на худобу, і на всю працю рук.

And I proclaim draught on the land, And on the mountains, and on the corn, And on the new wine, and on the oil, And on what the ground doth bring forth, And on man, and on beast, And on all labour of the hands.'

12 І Зоровавель, син Шалтіелів, та Ісус, син Єгосадака, великого священика, та вся решта народу послухалися голосу Господа, Бога свого, і слів пророка Огія, як послав його Господь, їхній Бог. І боявся народ лиця Господнього.

And Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, and Joshua son of Josedech, the high priest, and all the remnant of the people, do hearken to the voice of Jehovah their God, and unto the words of Haggai the prophet, as Jehovah their God had sent him, and the people are afraid of the face of Jehovah.

13 І сказав Огій, посол Господній, від Господа посланий до народу, говорячи: Я з вами, говорить Господь!

And Haggai, messenger of Jehovah, in messages of Jehovah, speaketh to the people, saying: `I with you, an affirmation of Jehovah.'

14 І збудив Господь духа Зоровавеля, сина Шалтіїлового, намісника Юдиного, і духа Ісуса, сина Єгосадака, великого священика, і духа всієї решти народу, і вони поприходили, і зробили роботу в домі Господа Саваота, їхнього Бога,

And Jehovah doth stir up the spirit of Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua son of Josedech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people, and they come in, and do work in the house of Jehovah of Hosts their God,

15 д вадцятого й четвертого дня шостого місяця, другого року царя Дарія.

in the twenty and fourth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.
