1 П авло, з волі Божої апостол Христа Ісуса, за обітницею життя, що в Христі Ісусі,

Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, through the will of God, according to a promise of life that in Christ Jesus,

2 д о Тимофія, сина улюбленого: благодать, милість, мир від Бога Отця й Христа Ісуса, Господа нашого!

to Timotheus, beloved child: Grace, kindness, peace, from God the Father, and Christ Jesus our Lord!

3 Д якую Богові, Якому служу від предків чистим сумлінням, що тебе пам'ятаю я завжди в молитвах своїх день і ніч.

I am thankful to God, whom I serve from progenitors in a pure conscience, that unceasingly I have remembrance concerning thee in my supplications night and day,

4 Я бажаю побачити тебе, пам'ятаючи сльози твої, щоб наповнитись радістю.

desiring greatly to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that with joy I may be filled,

5 Я приводжу на пам'ять собі твою нелицемірну віру, що перше була оселилася в бабі твоїй Лоіді та в твоїй матері Евнікії; певен же я, що й у тобі вона оселилась.

taking remembrance of the unfeigned faith that is in thee, that dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice, and I am persuaded that also in thee.

6 З цієї причини я нагадую тобі, що ти розгрівав Божого дара, який у тобі через покладання рук моїх.

For which cause I remind thee to stir up the gift of God that is in thee through the putting on of my hands,

7 Б о не дав нам Бог духа страху, але сили, і любови, і здорового розуму.

for God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind;

8 Т ож, не соромся засвідчення Господа нашого, ні мене, Його в'язня, але страждай з Євангелією за силою Бога,

therefore thou mayest not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but do thou suffer evil along with the good news according to the power of God,

9 щ о нас спас і покликав святим покликом, не за наші діла, але з волі Своєї та з благодаті, що нам дана в Христі Ісусі попереду вічних часів.

who did save us, and did call with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, that was given to us in Christ Jesus, before the times of the ages,

10 А тепер об'явилась через з'явлення Спасителя нашого Христа Ісуса, що й смерть зруйнував, і вивів на світло життя та нетління Євангелією,

and was made manifest now through the manifestation of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who indeed did abolish death, and did enlighten life and immortality through the good news,

11 щ о для неї я був настановлений за проповідника, апостола й учителя.

to which I was placed a preacher and an apostle, and a teacher of nations,

12 З цієї причини й терплю я оце, але не соромлюсь, бо знаю, в Кого я ввірував та впевнився, що має Він силу заховати на той день заставу мою.

for which cause also these things I suffer, but I am not ashamed, for I have known in whom I have believed, and have been persuaded that he is able that which I have committed to him to guard -- to that day.

13 М ай же за взір здорових слів ті, які від мене почув ти у вірі й любові, що в Христі Ісусі вона.

The pattern hold thou of sound words, which from me thou didst hear, in faith and love that in Christ Jesus;

14 Д обро припоручене стережи Святим Духом, що в нас пробуває.

the good thing committed guard thou through the Holy Spirit that is dwelling in us;

15 Т и знаєш оце, що відвернулись від мене всі, хто в Азії, а між ними Фігел та Гермоген.

thou hast known this, that they did turn from me -- all those in Asia, of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes;

16 Х ай Господь подасть милосердя Онисифоровому дому, бо він часто мене підкріпляв і кайданів моїх не соромився.

may the Lord give kindness to the house of Onesiphorus, because many times he did refresh me, and of my chain was not ashamed,

17 А коли він до Риму прибув, шукав мене пильно й знайшов,

but being in Rome, very diligently he sought me, and found;

18 х ай Господь йому дасть знайти милість від Господа в день той, скільки ж він послужив був в Ефесі мені, ти відаєш краще!

may the Lord give to him to find kindness from the Lord in that day; and how many things in Ephesus he did minister thou dost very well know.
