1 Т ими днями, коли було знову багато народу, а їсти не мали чого, покликав Він учнів Своїх та й промовив до них:

In those days the multitude being very great, and not having what they may eat, Jesus having called near his disciples, saith to them,

2 Ж аль мені тих людей, що вже три дні зо Мною знаходяться, та їсти не мають чого.

`I have compassion upon the multitude, because now three days they do continue with me, and they have not what they may eat;

3 А коли відпущу їх голодних до їхніх домівок, то ослабнуть у дорозі, бо деякі з них поприходили здалека.

and if I shall let them away fasting to their home, they will faint in the way, for certain of them are come from far.'

4 І відказали Йому Його учні: Звідки зможе хто нагодувати їх хлібом отут у пустині?

And his disciples answered him, `Whence shall any one be able these here to feed with bread in a wilderness?'

5 А Він їх запитав: Скільки маєте хліба? Вони ж повідомили: Семеро.

And he was questioning them, `How many loaves have ye?' and they said, `Seven.'

6 Т оді Він народу звелів на землі посідати. І, взявши семеро хліба, віддавши подяку, Він поламав і дав учням Своїм, щоб роздати. А вони роздавали народові.

And he commanded the multitude to sit down upon the ground, and having taken the seven loaves, having given thanks, he brake, and was giving to his disciples that they may set before; and they did set before the multitude.

7 І мали вони трохи рибок; і Він їх поблагословив, і роздати звелів також їх.

And they had a few small fishes, and having blessed, he said to set them also before;

8 І всі їли й наїлися, а з позосталих кусків сім кошів назбирали...

and they did eat and were filled, and they took up that which was over of broken pieces -- seven baskets;

9 А їдців було тисяч з чотири!

and those eating were about four thousand. And he let them away,

10 І всів Він негайно до човна з Своїми учнями, та й прибув до землі Далманутської.

and immediately having entered into the boat with his disciples, he came to the parts of Dalmanutha,

11 І вийшли фарисеї, і почали сперечатися з Ним, і, Його випробовуючи, хотіли від Нього ознаки із неба.

and the Pharisees came forth, and began to dispute with him, seeking from him a sign from the heaven, tempting him;

12 А Він тяжко зідхнув у Своїм дусі й промовив: Якої ознаки цей рід вимагає? Поправді кажу вам, що родові цьому ознака не буде дана!

and having sighed deeply in his spirit, he saith, `Why doth this generation seek after a sign? Verily I say to you, no sign shall be given to this generation.'

13 І покинув Він їх, усів знову до човна, і на той бік відбув.

And having left them, having entered again into the boat, he went away to the other side;

14 І забули вони взяти хліба, і крім одного буханця, у човні не мали з собою нічого.

and they forgot to take loaves, and except one loaf they had nothing with them in the boat,

15 А Він їм наказував та говорив: Стережіться уважливо фарисейської розчини й розчини Іродової!

and he was charging them, saying, `Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod,'

16 В они ж міркували й казали один до одного, що хліба не мають вони.

and they were reasoning with one another, saying -- `Because we have no loaves.'

17 А Ісус, знавши те, промовляє до них: Чого ви міркуєте, що хліба не маєте? Чи ви ще не знаєте й не розумієте? Чи ще маєте серце своє затверділим?

And Jesus having known, saith to them, `Why do ye reason, because ye have no loaves? do ye not yet perceive, nor understand, yet have ye your heart hardened?

18 М авши очі не бачите, і мавши вуха не чуєте? І не пам'ятаєте,

Having eyes, do ye not see? and having ears, do ye not hear? and do ye not remember?

19 к оли п'ять хлібів Я ламав на п'ять тисяч, скільки повних кошів із кусків ви зібрали? Вони кажуть до Нього: Дванадцять.

When the five loaves I did brake to the five thousand, how many hand-baskets full of broken pieces took ye up?' they say to him, `Twelve.'

20 А як сім на чотири тисячі, скільки кошиків повних з кусків ви зібрали? І відказують: Сім.

`And when the seven to the four thousand, how many hand-baskets full of broken pieces took ye up?' and they said, `Seven.'

21 І сказав Він до них: Ви ще не розумієте?...

And he said to them, `How do ye not understand?'

22 І приходять вони в Віфсаїду. І приводять до Нього сліпого, і благають Його, щоб доторкнувся до нього.

And he cometh to Bethsaida, and they bring to him one blind, and call upon him that he may touch him,

23 І взяв Він сліпого за руку, та й вивів його за село. І послинивши очі йому, поклав руки на нього, і питався його, чи що бачить.

and having taken the hand of the blind man, he led him forth without the village, and having spit on his eyes, having put hands on him, he was questioning him if he doth behold anything:

24 І , зиркнувши, сказав той: Я бачу людей, які ходять, немов би дерева...

and he, having looked up, said, `I behold men, as I see trees, walking.'

25 П отім знов Він поклав Свої руки на очі йому, і прозрів той, і одужав, і виразно став бачити все!

Afterwards again he put hands on his eyes, and made him look up, and he was restored, and discerned all things clearly,

26 І послав Він додому його й наказав: До села й не заходь, і нікому в селі не розповідай!

and he sent him away to his house, saying, `Neither to the village mayest thou go, nor tell to any in the village.'

27 П отому пішов Ісус й учні Його до сіл Кесарії Пилипової, а в дорозі питав Своїх учнів, говорячи їм: За кого Мене люди вважають?

And Jesus went forth, and his disciples, to the villages of Cesarea Philippi, and in the way he was questioning his disciples, saying to them, `Who do men say me to be?'

28 В они ж відповіли Йому, кажучи: За Івана Христителя, другі за Іллю, а інші за одного з пророків.

And they answered, `John the Baptist, and others Elijah, but others one of the prophets.'

29 І Він запитав їх: А ви за кого Мене маєте? Петро Йому в відповідь каже: Ти Христос!

And he saith to them, `And ye -- who do ye say me to be?' and Peter answering saith to him, `Thou art the Christ.'

30 І Він заборонив їм, щоб нікому про Нього вони не казали!

And he strictly charged them that they may tell no one about it,

31 І почав їх навчати, що Синові Людському треба багато страждати, і Його відцураються старші, і первосвященики, і книжники, і Він буде вбитий, але третього дня Він воскресне.

and began to teach them, that it behoveth the Son of Man to suffer many things, and to be rejected by the elders, and chief priests, and scribes, and to be killed, and after three days to rise again;

32 І те слово казав Він відкрито. А Петро узяв набік Його, і Йому став перечити.

and openly he was speaking the word. And Peter having taken him aside, began to rebuke him,

33 А Він обернувся й поглянув на учнів Своїх, та й Петру докорив і сказав: Відступись, сатано, від Мене, бо думаєш ти не про Боже, а про людське!

and he, having turned, and having looked on his disciples, rebuked Peter, saying, `Get behind me, Adversary, because thou dost not mind the things of God, but the things of men.'

34 І Він покликав народ із Своїми учнями, та й промовив до них: Коли хоче хто йти вслід за Мною, хай зречеться самого себе, і хай візьме свого хреста та й за Мною йде!

And having called near the multitude, with his disciples, he said to them, `Whoever doth will to come after me -- let him disown himself, and take up his cross, and follow me;

35 Б о хто хоче душу свою зберегти, той погубить її, а хто згубить душу свою ради Мене та Євангелії, той її збереже.

for whoever may will to save his life shall lose it; and whoever may lose his life for my sake and for the good news' sake, he shall save it;

36 Я ка ж користь людині, що здобуде ввесь світ, але душу свою занапастить?

for what shall it profit a man, if he may gain the whole world, and forfeit his life?

37 А бо що назамін дасть людина за душу свою?

Or what shall a man give as an exchange for his life?

38 Б о хто буде Мене та Моєї науки соромитися в роді цім перелюбнім та грішнім, того посоромиться також Син Людський, як прийде у славі Свого Отця з Анголами святими.

for whoever may be ashamed of me, and of my words, in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man also shall be ashamed of him, when he may come in the glory of his Father, with the holy messengers.'
