1 О це ті слова, що Мойсей говорив був до всього Ізраїля по тім боці Йордану в пустині, на степу, навпроти Червоного моря, між Параном, і між Тофелем, і Лаваном, і Гецеротом, і Ді-Загавом,

These the words which Moses hath spoken unto all Israel, beyond the Jordan, in the wilderness, in the plain over-against Suph, between Paran and Tophel, and Laban, and Hazeroth, and Di-Zahab;

2 о динадцять день дороги від Хориву, дорога до гори Сеїру, аж до Кадеш-Барнеа.

eleven days' from Horeb, the way of mount Seir, unto Kadesh-Barnea.

3 І сталося сорокового року, одинадцятого місяця, першого дня місяця говорив Мойсей до Ізраїлевих синів усе, що Господь наказав був йому про них,

And it cometh to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first of the month hath Moses spoken unto the sons of Israel according to all that Jehovah hath commanded him concerning them;

4 п о тому, як забив він Сигона, царя аморейського, що сидів у Хешбоні, і Оґа, царя башанського, що сидів в Аштароті в Едреї.

after his smiting Sihon king of the Amorite who is dwelling in Heshbon, and Og king of Bashan who is dwelling in Ashtaroth in Edrei,

5 Н а тім боці Йордану в моавському краї став Мойсей виясняти Закона, говорячи:

beyond the Jordan, in the land of Moab, hath Moses begun to explain this law, saying:

6 Г осподь, Бог наш, промовляв до нас на Хориві, говорячи: Досить вам сидіти на цій горі!

`Jehovah our God hath spoken unto us in Horeb, saying, Enough to you -- of dwelling in this mount;

7 О берніться й рушайте, і йдіть на гору амореянина, та до всіх сусідів його на степу, на горі, і в долині, і на півдні, і на побережжі моря, до Краю ханаанського та до Ливану, аж до Великої Річки, річки Ефрату.

turn ye and journey for you, and enter the mount of the Amorite, and unto all its neighbouring places, in the plain, in the hill-country, and in the low country, and in the south, and in the haven of the sea, the land of the Canaanite, and of Lebanon, unto the great river, the river Phrat;

8 О сь Я дав вам цей Край! Увійдіть, і заволодійте цим Краєм, що за нього Господь був присяг вашим батькам, Авраамові, Ісакові та Якову, що дасть його їм та їхньому насінню по них.

see, I have set before you the land; go in and possess the land which Jehovah hath sworn to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give to them, and to their seed after them.

9 І сказав я того часу до вас, говорячи: Не можу я сам носити вас.

`And I speak unto you at that time, saying, I am not able by myself to bear you;

10 Г осподь, Бог ваш, розмножив вас, і ось ви сьогодні, щодо численности, як зорі небесні!

Jehovah your God hath multiplied you, and lo, ye to-day as the stars of the heavens for multitude;

11 Г осподь, Бог ваших батьків, нехай додасть вам у тисячу раз, і нехай поблагословить вас, як Він говорив вам.

Jehovah, God of your fathers, is adding to you, as ye, a thousand times, and doth bless you as He hath spoken to you.

12 Я к я сам понесу тяготу вашу, і тягар ваш, і ваші суперечки?

`How do I bear by myself your pressure, and your burden, and your strife?

13 В ізьміть собі мужів мудрих, і випробуваних, і знаних вашим племенам, і я поставлю їх на чолі вас.

Give for yourselves men, wise and intelligent, and known to your tribes, and I set them for your heads;

14 І ви відповіли мені та й сказали: Добра та річ, що ти кажеш зробити.

and ye answer me and say, Good the thing which thou hast spoken -- to do.

15 І взяв я голів ваших племен, мужів мудрих та знаних, і поставив їх головами над вами, тисячниками, і сотниками, і п'ятдесятниками, і десятниками, та урядниками для ваших племен.

`And I take the heads of your tribes, men, wise and known, and I appoint them heads over you, princes of thousands, and princes of hundreds, and princes of fifties, and princes of tens, and authorities, for your tribes.

16 І наказав я того часу вашим суддям, говорячи: Вислуховуйте суперечки між вашими братами, і розсуджуйте справедливо між чоловіком та між братом його, та між приходьком його.

And I command your judges at that time, saying, Hearkening between your brethren -- then ye have judged righteousness between a man, and his brother, and his sojourner;

17 Н е будете звертати уваги на обличчя в суді, як малого, так і великого вислухаєте, не будете боятися обличчя людини, бо суд Божий він! А ту справу, що буде занадто тяжка для вас, принесете мені, і я вислухаю її.

ye do not discern faces in judgment; as the little so the great ye do hear; ye are not afraid of the face of any, for the judgment is God's, and the thing which is too hard for you, ye bring near unto me, and I have heard it;

18 І наказав я вам того часу про всі ті речі, що ви зробите.

and I command you, at that time, all the things which ye do.

19 І ми рушили з Хориву, та й перейшли цю велику й страшну пустиню, що бачили ви, дорогою до гори амореянина, як наказав нам Господь, Бог наш, і ми прийшли аж до Кадеш-Барнеа.

`And we journey from Horeb, and go all that great and fearful wilderness which ye have seen -- the way of the hill-country of the Amorite, as Jehovah our God hath commanded us, and we come in unto Kadesh-Barnea.

20 І сказав я до вас: Прийшли ви до Аморейської гори, що Господь, Бог наш, дає нам.

`And I say unto you, Ye have come in unto the hill-country of the Amorite, which Jehovah our God is giving to us;

21 О сь, Господь, Бог твій, віддає тобі цей Край. Увійди, заволодій, як говорив був тобі Господь, Бог батьків твоїх. Не бійся й не лякайся!

see, Jehovah thy God hath set before thee the land; go up, possess, as Jehovah, God of thy fathers, hath spoken to thee; fear not, nor be affrighted.

22 А ви всі підійшли до мене та й сказали: Пошлімо мужів перед собою, і нехай вони вислідять нам той Край, та нехай принесуть нам відомість про дорогу, що нею підемо, та про міста, куди ввійдемо.

`And ye come near unto me, all of you, and say, Let us send men before us, and they search for us the land, and they bring us back word the way in which we go up into it, and the cities unto which we come in;

23 І була та річ добра в моїх очах, і взяв я у вас дванадцять мужа, муж один для племени.

and the thing is good in mine eyes, and I take of you twelve men, one man for a tribe.

24 І вони відійшли, і зійшли на гору, і прийшли аж до долини Ешкол, та й вислідили його, Край.

`And they turn and go up to the hill-country, and come in unto the valley of Eshcol, and spy it,

25 І взяли вони в свою руку з плоду того Краю, і принесли до нас, і здали нам справу, і сказали: Добрий той Край, що Господь, Бог наш, дає нам!

and they take with their hand of the fruit of the land, and bring down unto us, and bring us back word, and say, Good is the land which Jehovah our God is giving to us.

26 Т а ви не хотіли йти, і були неслухняні наказам Господа, Бога вашого.

`And ye have not been willing to go up, and ye provoke the mouth of Jehovah your God,

27 І нарікали ви по ваших наметах і говорили: З ненависти до нас Господь вивів нас з єгипетського краю, щоб дати нас у руку амореянина на вигублення нас.

and murmur in your tents, and say, In Jehovah's hating us He hath brought us out of the land of Egypt, to give us into the hand of the Amorite -- to destroy us;

28 К уди ми підемо? Брати наші розслабили наше серце, говорячи: Народ той більший та вищий від нас, міста великі й уміцнені аж до неба, і навіть велетнів ми бачили там.

whither are we going up? our brethren have melted our heart, saying, A people greater and taller than we, cities great and fenced to heaven, and also sons of Anakim -- we have seen there.

29 І сказав я до вас: Не лякайтеся й не бійтеся їх!

`And I say unto you, Be not terrified, nor be afraid of them;

30 Г осподь, Бог наш, що йде перед вами, Він буде воювати для вас, як зробив був з вами в Єгипті на ваших очах,

Jehovah your God, who is going before you -- He doth fight for you, according to all that He hath done with you in Egypt before your eyes,

31 і в пустині, де ти бачив, що Господь, Бог твій, носив тебе, як носить чоловік сина свого, у всій дорозі, якою ви йшли, аж до вашого приходу до цього місця.

and in the wilderness, where thou hast seen that Jehovah thy God hath borne thee as a man beareth his son, in all the way which ye have gone, till your coming in unto this place.

32 Т а все таки ви не віруєте в Господа, вашого Бога,

`And in this thing ye are not stedfast in Jehovah your God,

33 щ о йде перед вами в дорозі, щоб вишукати для вас місце на ваше таборування, вночі огнем, щоб ви бачили в дорозі, що будете нею ходити, а хмарою вдень.

who is going before you in the way to search out to you a place for your encamping, in fire by night, to shew you in the way in which ye go, and in a cloud by day.

34 І Господь вислухав голос ваших слів, та й розгнівався, і заприсягнув, говорячи:

`And Jehovah heareth the voice of your words, and is wroth, and sweareth, saying,

35 П оправді кажу, ніхто серед цих людей, цього злого покоління, не побачить того доброго Краю, що присяг Я дати вашим батькам,

Not one of these men of this evil generation doth see the good land which I have sworn to give to your fathers,

36 о крім Калева, Єфуннеєвого сина, він побачить його, і йому Я дам той Край, по якому ступав він, та синам його, через те, що він виповняв наказа Господнього.

save Caleb son of Jephunneh -- he doth see it, and to him I give the land on which he hath trodden, and to his sons, because that he hath been fully after Jehovah.

37 Т акож на мене розгнівався був Господь через вас, говорячи: І ти не ввійдеш туди!

`Also with me hath Jehovah been angry for your sake, saying, Also, thou dost not go in thither;

38 І сус, син Навинів, що стоїть перед тобою, він увійде туди; зміцни його, бо він зробить, що Ізраїль заволодіє ним.

Joshua son of Nun, who is standing before thee, he goeth in thither; him strengthen thou; for he doth cause Israel to inherit.

39 А діти ваші, про яких ви сказали: На здобич будуть вони, та сини ваші, що сьогодні не знають ні добра, ані зла, вони ввійдуть туди, і їм дам Я його, і вони заволодіють ним.

`And your infants, of whom ye have said, For a prey they are, and your sons who have not known to-day good and evil, they go in thither, and to them I give it, and they possess it;

40 А ви йдіть, та й рушайте в пустиню дорогою Червоного моря.

and ye, turn for yourselves, and journey toward the wilderness, the way of the Red Sea.

41 А ви відповіли та й сказали мені: Згрішили ми Господеві! Ми вийдемо, і будемо воювати, цілком так, як наказав нам Господь, Бог наш. І приперезали ви кожен військову зброю свою, і відважилися вийти на гору.

`And ye answer and say unto me, We have sinned against Jehovah; we -- we go up, and we have fought, according to all that which Jehovah our God hath commanded us; and ye gird on each his weapons of war, and ye are ready to go up into the hill-country;

42 А ле Господь до мене сказав: Скажи їм: Не вийдете, і не будете ви воювати, бо Я не серед вас, щоб не були ви побиті вашими ворогами.

and Jehovah saith unto me, Say to them, Ye do not go up, nor fight, for I am not in your midst, and ye are not smitten before your enemies.

43 І промовляв я до вас, та ви не послухали, і були неслухняні наказам Господнім. І ви свавільно переступили наказа, і зійшли на гору.

`And I speak unto you, and ye have not hearkened, and provoke the mouth of Jehovah, and act proudly, and go up into the hill-country;

44 І вийшов навперейми вас амореянин, що сидить на тій горі, і гнали вас, як роблять то бджоли, і товкли вас в Сеїрі аж до Горми.

and the Amorite who is dwelling in that hill-country cometh out to meet you, and they pursue you as the bees do, and smite you in Seir -- unto Hormah.

45 І вернулися ви, і плакали перед Господнім лицем, та не слухав Господь вашого голосу, і не нахилив Свого вуха до вас.

`And ye turn back and weep before Jehovah, and Jehovah hath not hearkened to your voice, nor hath he given ear unto you;

46 І сиділи ви в Кадешу багато днів, стільки днів, скільки там ви сиділи.

and ye dwell in Kadesh many days, according to the days which ye had dwelt.
