1 І прийшов Ангол Господній з Ґілґалу до Бохіму, та й сказав: Я вивів вас із Єгипту до того Краю, що присягнув був вашим батькам. І сказав Я: не зламаю Свого заповіту з вами повіки!

And a messenger of Jehovah goeth up from Gilgal unto Bochim,

2 А ви не складете заповіту з мешканцями цього Краю, їхні жертівники порозбиваєте, та не слухали ви Мого голосу. Що це ви зробили?

and saith, `I cause you to come up out of Egypt, and bring you in unto the land which I have sworn to your fathers, and say, I do not break My covenant with you to the age; and ye -- ye make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land -- their altars ye break down; and ye have not hearkened to My voice -- what this ye have done?

3 І Я теж сказав: Не прожену їх від вас, і вони стануть вам терням у боки, а їхні боги стануть вам пасткою.

And I also have said, I do not cast them out from your presence, and they have been to you for adversaries, and their gods are to you for a snare.'

4 І сталося, як Ангол Господній говорив ці слова до всіх Ізраїлевих синів, то народ підніс свій голос, та й заплакав.

And it cometh to pass, when the messenger of Jehovah speaketh these words unto all the sons of Israel, that the people lift up their voice and weep,

5 І назвали ім'я того місця: Бохім, і приносили там жертви Господеві.

and they call the name of that place Bochim, and sacrifice there to Jehovah.

6 А Ісус відпустив народ, і Ізраїлеві сини розійшлися кожен до свого спадку, щоб посісти той Край.

And Joshua sendeth the people away, and the sons of Israel go, each to his inheritance, to possess the land;

7 І служив народ Господеві по всі дні Ісуса та по всі дні старших, які продовжили дні свої по Ісусі, що бачили всякий великий чин Господа, якого зробив Він Ізраїлеві.

and the people serve Jehovah all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who prolonged days after Joshua, who saw all the great work of Jehovah which He did to Israel.

8 І вмер Ісус, син Навинів, раб Господній, віку ста й десяти літ.

And Joshua son of Nun, servant of Jehovah, dieth, a son of a hundred and ten years,

9 І поховали його в межах спадщини його, у Тімнат-Хересі, в Єфремових горах, на північ від гори Ґааш.

and they bury him in the border of his inheritance, in Timnath-Heres, in the hill-country of Ephraim, on the north of mount Gaash;

10 І також усе це покоління було прилучене до батьків своїх, а по них настало інше покоління, що не знало Господа, а також тих діл, які чинив Він Ізраїлеві.

and also all that generation have been gathered unto their fathers, and another generation riseth after them who have not known Jehovah, and even the work which He hath done to Israel.

11 І Ізраїлеві сини чинили зло в Господніх очах, і служили Ваалам.

And the sons of Israel do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, and serve the Baalim,

12 І вони покинули Господа, Бога батьків своїх, що вивів їх із єгипетського краю, та й пішли за іншими богами, за богами тих народів, що були в їхніх околицях, і вклонялися їм, і гнівили Господа.

and forsake Jehovah, God of their fathers, who bringeth them out from the land of Egypt, and go after other gods (of the gods of the peoples who round about them), and bow themselves to them, and provoke Jehovah,

13 І покинули вони Господа, та й служили Ваалові та Астартам.

yea, they forsake Jehovah, and do service to Baal and to Ashtaroth.

14 І запалав Господній гнів на Ізраїля, і Він дав їх у руку грабіжників, і вони їх грабували. І Він передав їх у руку навколишніх їхніх ворогів, і вони не могли вже встояти перед своїми ворогами.

And the anger of Jehovah burneth against Israel, and He giveth them into the hand of spoilers, and they spoil them, and He selleth them into the hand of their enemies round about, and they have not been able any more to stand before their enemies;

15 У всьому, де вони ходили, Господня рука була проти них на зло, як говорив був Господь, і як заприсягнув їм Господь. І Він дуже їх тиснув.

in every where they have gone out, the hand of Jehovah hath been against them for evil, as Jehovah hath spoken, and as Jehovah hath sworn to them, and they are distressed -- greatly.

16 І поставив Господь суддів, і вони рятували їх від руки їхніх грабіжників.

And Jehovah raiseth up judges, and they save them from the hand of their spoilers;

17 Т а вони не слухалися також своїх суддів, бо блудили за іншими богами, і вклонялися їм. Вони скоро відхилялися з тієї дороги, якою йшли їхні батьки, щоб слухатися Господніх наказів. Вони так не робили!

and also unto their judges they have not hearkened, but have gone a-whoring after other gods, and bow themselves to them; they have turned aside haste out of the way which their fathers walked to obey the commands of Jehovah -- they have not done so.

18 А коли Господь ставив їм суддів, то Господь був із суддею, і рятував їх із руки їхніх ворогів по всі дні того судді, бо Господь жалував їх через їхній стогін через тих, що їх переслідували та гнобили їх.

And when Jehovah raised up to them judges -- then was Jehovah with the judge, and saved them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for it repenteth Jehovah, because of their groaning from the presence of their oppressors, and of those thrusting them away.

19 І бувало, як умирав той суддя, вони знову псувалися більше від своїх батьків, щоб іти за іншими богами, щоб їм служити та щоб їм вклонятися, і вони не кидали чинів своїх та своєї неслухняної дороги.

And it hath come to pass, at the death of the judge -- they turn back and have done corruptly above their fathers, to go after other gods, to serve them, and to bow themselves to them; they have not fallen from their doings, and from their stiff way.

20 І запалився Господній гнів на Ізраїля, і Він сказав: За те, що люд цей переступив Мого заповіта, що Я наказав був їхнім батькам, і не слухалися Мого голосу,

And the anger of Jehovah doth burn against Israel, and He saith, `Because that this nation have transgressed My covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened to My voice --

21 т ож Я більше не виганятиму перед ними нікого з тих народів, що Ісус позоставив, умираючи,

I also continue not to dispossess any from before them of the nations which Joshua hath left when he dieth,

22 щ об випробувати ними Ізраїля, чи держатимуться вони Господньої дороги, щоб нею ходити, як держалися їхні батьки, чи ні.

in order to try Israel by them, whether they are keeping the way of Jehovah, to go in it, as their fathers kept or not.'

23 І Господь позоставив тих людей, щоб їх скоро не виганяти, і не дав їх у руку Ісусову.

And Jehovah leaveth these nations, so as not to dispossess them hastily, and did not give them into the hand of Joshua.
