1 O r l'Angelo dell'Eterno salì da Ghilgal a Bokim e disse: «Io vi ho fatto salire dall'Egitto e vi ho condotto nel paese che avevo giurato di dare ai vostri padri. Avevo anche detto: "Io non romperò mai il mio patto con voi.

And a messenger of Jehovah goeth up from Gilgal unto Bochim,

2 M a voi non farete alcuna alleanza con gli abitanti di questo paese e demolirete i loro altari". Voi però non avete ubbidito alla mia voce. Perché avete fatto questo?

and saith, `I cause you to come up out of Egypt, and bring you in unto the land which I have sworn to your fathers, and say, I do not break My covenant with you to the age; and ye -- ye make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land -- their altars ye break down; and ye have not hearkened to My voice -- what this ye have done?

3 C osì ora dico: lo non li scaccerò davanti a voi; ma essi saranno come spine nei vostri fianchi, e i loro dèi saranno per voi un laccio».

And I also have said, I do not cast them out from your presence, and they have been to you for adversaries, and their gods are to you for a snare.'

4 A ppena l'Angelo dell'Eterno ebbe detto queste parole a tutti i figli d'Israele, il popolo alzò la voce e pianse.

And it cometh to pass, when the messenger of Jehovah speaketh these words unto all the sons of Israel, that the people lift up their voice and weep,

5 P erciò chiamarono quel luogo Bokim e vi offrirono sacrifici all'Eterno.

and they call the name of that place Bochim, and sacrifice there to Jehovah.

6 O r Giosuè congedò il popolo, e i figli d'Israele se ne andarono ciascuno alla sua eredità per prendere possesso del paese.

And Joshua sendeth the people away, and the sons of Israel go, each to his inheritance, to possess the land;

7 I l popolo servì l'Eterno durante tutta la vita di Giosuè e durante tutta la vita degli anziani che sopravvissero a Giosuè, e che avevano visto tutte le grandi opere che l'Eterno aveva compiuto per Israele.

and the people serve Jehovah all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who prolonged days after Joshua, who saw all the great work of Jehovah which He did to Israel.

8 P oi Giosuè, figlio di Nun, servo dell'Eterno morì in età di centodieci anni,

And Joshua son of Nun, servant of Jehovah, dieth, a son of a hundred and ten years,

9 e fu sepolto nel territorio della sua eredità a Timnath-Heres nella regione montuosa di Efraim, a nord della montagna di Gaash.

and they bury him in the border of his inheritance, in Timnath-Heres, in the hill-country of Ephraim, on the north of mount Gaash;

10 Q uando tutta quella generazione fu riunita ai suoi padri, dopo di essa sorse un'altra generazione che non conosceva l'Eterno, né le opere che egli aveva compiuto per Israele.

and also all that generation have been gathered unto their fathers, and another generation riseth after them who have not known Jehovah, and even the work which He hath done to Israel.

11 I figli d'Israele fecero ciò che è male agli occhi dell'Eterno e servirono Baal;

And the sons of Israel do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, and serve the Baalim,

12 a bbandonarono l'Eterno, il DIO dei loro padri che li aveva fatti uscire dal paese d'Egitto, e seguirono altri dèi fra gli dèi dei popoli che li attorniavano, si prostrarono davanti a loro e provocarono ad ira l'Eterno;

and forsake Jehovah, God of their fathers, who bringeth them out from the land of Egypt, and go after other gods (of the gods of the peoples who round about them), and bow themselves to them, and provoke Jehovah,

13 e ssi abbandonarono l'Eterno e servirono Baal e le Ashtaroth.

yea, they forsake Jehovah, and do service to Baal and to Ashtaroth.

14 E l'ira dell'Eterno si accese contro Israele e li diede nelle mani dei predoni, che li spogliarono; e li vendette nelle mani dei loro nemici all'intorno, ai quali non poterono piú tener fronte.

And the anger of Jehovah burneth against Israel, and He giveth them into the hand of spoilers, and they spoil them, and He selleth them into the hand of their enemies round about, and they have not been able any more to stand before their enemies;

15 D ovunque andavano, la mano dell'Eterno era contro di loro portando calamità, come l'Eterno aveva detto, come l'Eterno aveva loro giurato; e furono grandemente angustiati.

in every where they have gone out, the hand of Jehovah hath been against them for evil, as Jehovah hath spoken, and as Jehovah hath sworn to them, and they are distressed -- greatly.

16 P oi l'Eterno suscitava dei giudici, che li liberavano dalle mani di coloro che li spogliavano.

And Jehovah raiseth up judges, and they save them from the hand of their spoilers;

17 P urtroppo essi non davano ascolto neppure ai loro giudici, ma si prostituivano ad altri dèi e si prostravano davanti a loro. Abbandonarono ben presto la via seguita dai loro padri, i quali avevano ubbidito ai comandamenti dell'Eterno; essi però non fecero così.

and also unto their judges they have not hearkened, but have gone a-whoring after other gods, and bow themselves to them; they have turned aside haste out of the way which their fathers walked to obey the commands of Jehovah -- they have not done so.

18 Q uando l'Eterno suscitava loro dei giudici l'Eterno era col giudice e li liberava dalla mano dei loro nemici durante tutta la vita del giudice; perché l'Eterno era mosso a compassione dai loro gemiti a motivo di quelli che li opprimevano e li angariavano.

And when Jehovah raised up to them judges -- then was Jehovah with the judge, and saved them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for it repenteth Jehovah, because of their groaning from the presence of their oppressors, and of those thrusting them away.

19 M a quando il giudice moriva, tornavano a corrompersi piú dei loro padri andando dietro ad altri dèi per servirli prostrarsi davanti a loro; e non desistevano affatto dalle loro opere e dalla loro condotta ostinata.

And it hath come to pass, at the death of the judge -- they turn back and have done corruptly above their fathers, to go after other gods, to serve them, and to bow themselves to them; they have not fallen from their doings, and from their stiff way.

20 P erciò l'ira dell'Eterno si accese contro Israele, ed egli disse: «Poiché questa nazione ha violato il patto che avevo stabilito con i loro padri ed essi non hanno ubbidito alla mia voce,

And the anger of Jehovah doth burn against Israel, and He saith, `Because that this nation have transgressed My covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened to My voice --

21 a nch'io non scaccerò piú davanti a loro alcuna delle nazioni che Giosuè lasciò quando mori;

I also continue not to dispossess any from before them of the nations which Joshua hath left when he dieth,

22 c osì per mezzo loro metterò alla prova Israele per vedere se si atterranno alla via dell'Eterno e cammineranno per essa come fecero i loro padri, o no».

in order to try Israel by them, whether they are keeping the way of Jehovah, to go in it, as their fathers kept or not.'

23 P erciò l'Eterno lasciò stare quelle nazioni senza scacciarle subito, e non le diede nelle mani di Giosuè.

And Jehovah leaveth these nations, so as not to dispossess them hastily, and did not give them into the hand of Joshua.
