1 O r questa è la benedizione con la quale Mosè, uomo di DIO, benedisse i figli d'Israele, prima di morire.

And this the blessing which Moses the man of God blessed the sons of Israel before his death,

2 D isse dunque: «L'Eterno è venuto dal Sinai e si è levato su di loro da Seir, è apparso nel suo splendore dal monte Paran, è giunto da mezzo delle miriadi dei santi; dalla sua destra usciva per essi una legge di fuoco.

and he saith: -- `Jehovah from Sinai hath come, And hath risen from Seir for them; He hath shone from mount Paran, And hath come myriads of holy ones; At His right hand springs for them.

3 C erto, egli ama i popoli; tutti i suoi santi sono nelle tue mani; essi siedono ai tuoi piedi, ciascuno riceve le tue parole.

Also He loving the peoples; All His holy ones in thy hand, And they -- they sat down at thy foot, He lifteth up at thy words.

4 M osè ci ha prescritto una legge, un'eredità dell'assemblea di Giacobbe.

A law hath Moses commanded us, A possession of the assembly of Jacob.

5 E gli è stato re in Jeshurun, quando si radunavano i capi del popolo, tutte assieme le tribú d'Israele.

And he is in Jeshurun king, In the heads of the people gathering together, The tribes of Israel!

6 V iva Ruben e non muoia; ma siano i suoi uomini ridotti a pochi».

Let Reuben live, and not die, And let his men be a number.

7 Q uesto invece disse di Giuda: «Ascolta, o Eterno, la voce di Giuda e riconducilo al suo popolo; la sua mano lotta per la sua causa; sii tu un aiuto contro i suoi nemici».

And this for Judah; and he saith: -- Hear, O Jehovah, the voice of Judah, And unto his people do Thou bring him in; His hand hath striven for him, And an help from his adversaries art Thou.

8 P oi di Levi disse: «I tuoi Thummim e i tuoi Urim appartengono al tuo uomo pio, che tu provasti a Massa, e col quale contendesti alle acque di Meriba.

And of Levi he said: -- Thy Thummim and thy Urim for thy pious one, Whom Thou hast tried in Massah, Thou dost strive with Him at the waters of Meribah;

9 E gli dice di suo padre e di sua madre: "lo non li ho visti"; egli non ha riconosciuto i suoi fratelli e non considera i propri figli; perché i Leviti hanno osservato la tua parola e hanno custodito il tuo patto.

Who is saying of his father and his mother, I have not seen him; And his brethren he hath not discerned, And his sons he hath not known; For they have observed Thy saying, And Thy covenant they keep.

10 E ssi insegnano i tuoi decreti a Giacobbe e la tua legge a Israele; mettono l'incenso davanti a te e l'intero olocausto sopra il tuo altare.

They teach Thy judgments to Jacob, And Thy law to Israel; They put perfume in Thy nose, And whole burnt-offering on Thine altar.

11 O Eterno, benedici la sua forza e accetta l'opera delle sue mani. Trafiggi i lombi di quelli che insorgono contro di lui e di quelli che lo odiano, affinché non si rialzino più».

Bless, O Jehovah, his strength, And the work of his hands Thou acceptest, Smite the loins of his withstanders, And of those hating him -- that they rise not!

12 D i Beniamino disse: «L'amato dell'Eterno abiterà sicuro presso di lui. L'Eterno lo proteggerà del continuo e abiterà fra le sue spalle».

Of Benjamin he said: -- The beloved of Jehovah doth tabernacle confidently by him, Covering him over all the day; Yea, between his shoulders He doth tabernacle.

13 D i Giuseppe disse: «Sia il suo paese benedetto dall'Eterno con i doni preziosi del cielo, con la rugiada, con le acque dell'abisso che giace in basso,

And of Joseph he said: -- Blessed of Jehovah his land, By precious things of the heavens, By dew, and by the deep crouching beneath,

14 c on i frutti preziosi del sole, con i preziosi prodotti di ogni mese,

And by precious things -- fruits of the sun, And by precious things -- cast forth by the moons,

15 c on i migliori prodotti dei monti antichi, con i doni preziosi dei colli eterni,

And by chief things -- of the ancient mountains, And by precious things -- of the age-during heights,

16 c on i doni preziosi della terra e tutto ciò che essa racchiude. Il favore di colui che stava nel roveto venga sul capo di Giuseppe, sulla corona del capo del prescelto tra i suoi fratelli!

And by precious things -- of earth and its fulness, And the good pleasure Of Him who is dwelling in the bush, -- Let it come for the head of Joseph, And for the crown of him Who is separate from his brethren.

17 L a sua maestà è come quella del suo toro primogenito, le sue corna sono come le corna di un bufalo. Con esse trafiggerà tutti quanti i popoli fino alle estremità della terra. Queste sono le miriadi di Efraim. Queste sono le migliaia di Manasse».

His honour a firstling of his ox, And his horns horns of a reem; By them peoples he doth push together To the ends of earth; And they the myriads of Ephraim, And they the thousands of Manasseh.

18 D i Zabulon disse: «Gioisci Zabulon, nel tuo uscire, e tu, Issacar, nelle tue tende!

And of Zebulun he said: -- Rejoice, O Zebulun, in thy going out, And, O Issachar, in thy tents;

19 E ssi chiameranno i popoli al monte e là offriranno sacrifici di giustizia; poiché essi succhieranno l'abbondanza dei mari e i tesori nascosti nella sabbia».

Peoples the mountain they call, There they sacrifice righteous sacrifices; For the abundance of the seas they suck, And hidden things hidden in the sand.

20 D i Gad disse: «Benedetto colui che estende Gad. Egli giace come una leonessa e sbrana braccio e cranio.

And of Gad he said: -- Blessed of the Enlarger Gad, As a lioness he doth tabernacle, And hath torn the arm -- also the crown!

21 E gli si accaparra la prima parte per se stesso, perché là era la parte riservata del condottiero; egli è venuto con i capi del popolo e ha eseguito la giustizia dell'Eterno e i suoi decreti con Israele».

And he provideth the first part for himself, For there the portion of the lawgiver is covered, And he cometh the heads of the people; The righteousness of Jehovah he hath done, And His judgments with Israel.

22 D i Dan disse: «Dan è un leoncello, che balza da Bashan».

And of Dan he said: -- Dan a lion's whelp; he doth leap from Bashan.

23 D i Neftali disse: «O Neftali, sazio di favori e ricolmo delle benedizioni dell'Eterno, occupa l'occidente e il meridione».

And of Naphtali he said: -- O Naphtali, satisfied with pleasure, And full of the blessing of Jehovah, West and south possess thou.

24 D i Ascer disse: «Benedetto più di tutti i figli sia Ascer! Sia il favorito dei suoi fratelli e immerga il suo piede nell'olio.

And of Asher he said: -- Blessed with sons Asher, Let him be accepted by his brethren, And dipping in oil his foot.

25 S iano i tuoi sandali di ferro e di bronzo, e la tua forza duri quanto i tuoi giorni.

Iron and brass thy shoes, And as thy days -- thy strength.

26 N essuno è pari al Dio di Jeshurun, che cavalca i cieli in tuo aiuto e le nubi nella sua maestà.

There is none like the God of Jeshurun, Riding the heavens in thy help, And in His excellency the skies.

27 I l DIO dei tempi antichi è il tuo rifugio; e sotto di te stanno le sue braccia Eterne. Egli scaccerà il nemico davanti a te e dirà: "Distruggi!".

A habitation the eternal God, And beneath arms age-during. And He casteth out from thy presence the enemy, and saith, `Destroy!'

28 A llora Israele dimorerà al sicuro, la fonte di Giacobbe da sola, in un paese di frumento e di mosto; e il suo cielo stillerà rugiada.

And Israel doth tabernacle confidence alone; The eye of Jacob unto a land of corn and wine; Also His heavens drop down dew.

29 T u sei felice, o Israele! Chi è pari a te, un popolo salvato dall'Eterno? Egli è lo scudo che ti aiuta e la spada della tua maestà. I tuoi nemici si sottometteranno a te e tu calpesterai i loro alti luoghi».

O thy happiness, O Israel! who is like thee? A people saved by Jehovah, The shield of thy help, And He who the sword of thine excellency: And thine enemies are subdued for thee, And thou on their high places dost tread.'
