1 A chaz aveva vent'anni quando iniziò a regnare, e regnò sedici anni a Gerusalemme. Egli non fece ciò che è giusto agli occhi dell'Eterno, come aveva fatto Davide suo padre;

A son of twenty years Ahaz in his reigning, and sixteen years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, and he hath not done that which is right in the eyes of Jehovah, as David his father,

2 m a seguí le vie dei re d'Israele e fece perfino immagini di metallo fuso per i Baal.

and walketh in the ways of the kings of Israel, and also, molten images hath made for Baalim,

3 E gli bruciò incenso nella valle del Figlio di Hinnom e bruciò nel fuoco i suoi figli, seguendo le abominazioni delle nazioni che l'Eterno aveva scacciato davanti ai figli d'Israele;

and himself hath made perfume in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burneth his sons with fire according to the abominations of the nations that Jehovah dispossessed from the presence of the sons of Israel,

4 i noltre faceva sacrifici e bruciava incenso sugli alti luoghi, sulle colline e sotto ogni albero verdeggiante.

and sacrificeth and maketh perfume in high places, and on the heights, and under every green tree.

5 P erciò l'Eterno, il suo DIO lo diede nelle mani del re di Siria; essi lo sconfissero e gli presero un gran numero di prigionieri che condussero a Damasco. Fu pure dato nelle mani del re d'Israele che gli inflisse una grande sconfitta.

And Jehovah his God giveth him into the hand of the king of Aram, and they smite him, and take captive from him a great captivity, and bring in to Damascus, and also into the hand of the king of Israel he hath been given, and he smiteth him -- a great smiting.

6 I nfatti Pekah, figlio di Remaliah, in un giorno uccise centoventimila uomini in Giuda, tutti uomini valorosi, perché avevano abbandonato l'Eterno, il DIO dei loro padri.

And Pekah son of Remaliah slayeth in Judah a hundred and twenty thousand in one day (the whole sons of valour), because of their forsaking Jehovah, God of their fathers.

7 Z ikri un prode di Efraim, uccise Maaseiah, figlio del re, Azrikam prefetto del palazzo ed Elkanah che veniva al secondo posto, dopo il re.

And Zichri, a mighty one of Ephraim, slayeth Maaseiah son of the king, and Azrikam leader of the house, and Elkanah second to the king.

8 I figli d'Israele condussero prigionieri, tra i loro fratelli, duecentomila donne, figli e figlie, tolsero pure loro un gran bottino, che portarono a Samaria.

And the sons of Israel take captive of their brethren, two hundred thousand, wives, sons and daughters, and also much spoil they have seized from them, and they bring in the spoil to Samaria.

9 M a là c'era un profeta dell'Eterno, di nome Obed. Egli uscí incontro all'esercito che tornava a Samaria e disse loro: «Ecco, poiché l'Eterno, il DIO dei vostri padri, era adirato contro Giuda, li ha dati nelle vostre mani ma voi li avete uccisi con furore, che è giunto fino al cielo.

And there hath been there a prophet of Jehovah (Oded his name), and he goeth out before the host that hath come in to Samaria, and saith to them, `Lo, in the fury of Jehovah God of your fathers against Judah, He hath given them into your hand, and ye slay among them in rage -- unto the heavens it hath come;

10 E ora intendete soggiogare, come vostri schiavi e schiave, i figli e le figlie di Giuda e di Gerusalemme. Ma non siete in realtà voi stessi colpevoli davanti all'Eterno il vostro DIO?

and now, sons of Judah and Jerusalem ye are saying to subdue for men-servants and for maid-servants to you; but are there not with you causes of guilt before Jehovah your God?

11 A scoltatemi dunque e rimandate i prigionieri che avete catturato tra i vostri fratelli perché altrimenti l'ardente ira dell'Eterno cadrà su di voi».

and now, hear me, and send back the captives whom ye have taken captive of your brethren, for the heat of the anger of Jehovah upon you.'

12 A llora alcuni dei capi dei figli di Efraim, Azariah figlio di Johanan, Berekiah figlio di Mescillemoth, Ezechia figlio di Shallum e Amasa figlio di Hadlai si levarono contro quelli che tornavano dalla guerra,

And certain of the heads of the sons of Ephraim (Azariah son of Johanan, Berechiah son of Meshillemoth, and Jehizkiah son of Shallum, and Amasa son of Hadlai), rise up against those coming in from the host,

13 e dissero loro: «Voi non porterete qui i prigionieri, perché su di noi pesa già una colpa contro l'Eterno; ciò che intendete fare accrescerà i nostri peccati e la nostra colpa, perché la nostra colpa è già grande e un'ira ardente incombe su Israele».

and say to them, `Ye do not bring in the captives hither, for, to guilt against Jehovah on us, ye are saying to add unto our sin and unto our guilt? for abundant the guilt we have, and the fierceness of anger on Israel.'

14 A llora i soldati abbandonarono i prigionieri e il bottino davanti ai capi e a tutta l'assemblea.

And the armed men leave the captives and the prey before the heads and all the assembly;

15 Q uindi alcuni uomini designati per nome si levarono e presero i prigionieri, e con il vestiario del bottino rivestirono tutti quelli di loro che erano nudi; provvidero loro vesti e sandali, diedero loro da mangiare e da bere e li unsero; poi trasportarono tutti i deboli su degli asini e li condussero a Gerico, la città delle palme, presso i loro fratelli, quindi tornarono a Samaria.

and the men who have been expressed by name rise and take hold on the captives, and all their naked ones they have clothed from the spoil, yea, they clothe them, and shoe them, and cause them to eat and drink, and anoint them, and lead them on asses, even every feeble one, and bring them in to Jericho, the city of palms, near their brethren, and turn back to Samaria.

16 I n quel tempo il re Achaz andò a chiedere aiuto al re di Assiria.

At that time hath king Ahaz sent unto the king of Asshur to give help to him;

17 G li Edomiti erano venuti di nuovo, avevano sconfitto Giuda e avevano condotto dei prigionieri.

and again the Edomites have come, and smite in Judah, and take captive a captivity.

18 I Filistei avevano anche invaso le città della pianura e del Neghev di Giuda e avevano preso Beth-Scemesh Ajalon Ghederoth. Soko con i suoi villaggi. Timnah con i suoi villaggi. Ghimzo con i suoi villaggi, e vi si erano stabiliti.

And the Philistines have rushed against the cities of the low country, and of the south of Judah, and capture Beth-Shemesh, and Aijalon, and Gederoth, and Shocho and its villages, and Timnah and its villages, and Gimzo and its villages, and dwell there,

19 L 'Eterno infatti aveva umiliato Giuda a motivo di Achaz, re di Israele, perché aveva fomentato il decadimento morale in Giuda e aveva gravemente peccato contro l'Eterno.

for Jehovah hath humbled Judah because of Ahaz king of Israel, for he made free with Judah, even to commit a trespass against Jehovah.

20 C osí Tilgath-Pilneser, re d'Assiria venne contro di lui e lo oppresse anziché aiutarlo,

And Tilgath-Pilneser king of Asshur cometh in unto him, and doth distress him, and hath not strengthened him,

21 a nche se Achaz aveva preso una parte dei tesori dalla casa dell'Eterno, dal palazzo del re e dei capi, e aveva dato tutto al re di Assiria; ciò nonostante non gli era giovato nulla.

though Ahaz hath taken a portion of the house of Jehovah, and of the house of the king, and of the princes, and giveth to the king of Asshur, yet it is no help to him.

22 A nche quando era oppresso, questo re Achaz peccò ancor di piú contro l'Eterno.

And in the time of his distress -- he addeth to trespass against Jehovah, (this king Ahaz),

23 O ffrí sacrifici agli dèi di Damasco, che lo avevano sconfitto, dicendo: «Poiché gli dèi dei re di Siria aiutano quelli, io offrirò loro sacrifici perché aiutino anche me». Ma furono proprio loro a provocare la sua rovina e quella di tutto Israele.

and he sacrificeth to the gods of Damascus -- those smiting him, and saith, `Because the gods of the kings of Aram are helping them, to them I sacrifice, and they help me,' and they have been to him to cause him to stumble, and to all Israel.

24 A chaz radunò gli utensili della casa di DIO, fece a pezzi gli utensili della casa di DIO, chiuse le porte della casa dell'Eterno, si fece degli altari in ogni angolo di Gerusalemme,

And Ahaz gathereth the vessels of the house of God, and cutteth in pieces the vessels of the house of God, and shutteth the doors of the house of Jehovah, and maketh to himself altars in every corner in Jerusalem.

25 e in ogni città di Giuda stabilí alti luoghi per bruciare incenso ad altri dèi provocando cosí ad ira l'Eterno, il DIO dei suoi padri.

And in every city and city of Judah he hath made high places to make perfume to other gods, and provoketh Jehovah, God of his fathers.

26 I l resto delle sue gesta e di tutti i suoi modi di agire, dai primi agli ultimi, ecco, sono scritti nel libro dei re di Giuda e d'Israele.

And the rest of his matters, and all his ways, the first and the last, lo, they are written on the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

27 P oi Achaz si addormentò con i suoi padri, e lo seppellirono in città, a Gerusalemme, ma non lo vollero mettere nei sepolcri dei re d'Israele. Al suo posto regnò suo figlio Ezechia.

And Ahaz lieth with his fathers, and they bury him in the city, in Jerusalem, but have not brought him in to the graves of the kings of Israel, and reign doth Hezekiah his son in his stead.
