1 R oboamo, giunto a Gerusalemme, convocò la casa di Giuda e di Beniamino, centottantamila guerrieri scelti, per combattere contro Israele e cosí restituire il regno a Roboamo.

And Rehoboam cometh in to Jerusalem, and assembleth the house of Judah and Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen warriors, to fight with Israel, to bring back the kingdom to Rehoboam.

2 M a la parola dell'Eterno fu cosí rivolta a Scemaiah, uomo di DIO, dicendo:

And a word of Jehovah is unto Shemaiah, a man of God, saying,

3 « Parla a Roboamo, figlio di Salomone, re di Giuda, e a tutto Israele, in Giuda e in Beniamino, e di' loro:

`Speak unto Rehoboam son of Solomon king of Judah, and unto all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,

4 C osí parla l'Eterno: "Non salite a combattere contro i vostri fratelli. Ognuno torni a casa sua, perché questa cosa viene da me"». Essi allora ubbidirono alla parola dell'Eterno e tornarono indietro senza andare contro Geroboamo.

Thus said Jehovah, Ye do not go up nor fight with your brethren, turn back each to his house, for from Me hath this thing been;' and they hear the words of Jehovah, and turn back from going against Jeroboam.

5 R oboamo abitò in Gerusalemme e costruí alcune città per difesa in Giuda.

And Rehoboam dwelleth in Jerusalem, and buildeth cities for a bulwark in Judah,

6 C ostruí Betlemme, Etam, Tekoa,

yea, he buildeth Beth-Lehem and Etam, and Tekoa,

7 B eth-Tsur, Soko, Adullam,

and Beth-Zur, and Shocho, and Adullam,

8 G ath, Mareshah, Zif,

and Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,

9 A doraim, Lakish, Azekah,

and Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,

10 T sorah, Ajalon e Hebrom che divennero città fortificate in Giuda e in Beniamino.

and Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, that in Judah and in Benjamin, cities of bulwarks.

11 R afforzò le fortezze e vi pose comandanti e depositi di viveri, di olio e di vino.

And he strengtheneth the bulwarks, and putteth in them leaders, and treasures of food, and oil, and wine,

12 I n ogni città mise scudi e lance e le rese estremamente forti. Cosí egli ebbe dalla sua parte Giuda e Beniamino.

and in every city and city targets and spears, and strengtheneth them very greatly; and he hath Judah and Benjamin.

13 I noltre da tutti i loro territori i sacerdoti e i Leviti di tutto Israele presero posizione con lui.

And the priests, and the Levites, that in all Israel, have stationed themselves by him, out of all their border,

14 I Leviti infatti abbandonarono loro terreni da pascolo e le loro proprietà e si recarono in Giuda e a Gerusalemme, perché Geroboamo con i suoi figli li aveva rigettati dal servire come sacerdoti dell'Eterno,

for the Levites have left their suburbs and their possession, and they come to Judah and to Jerusalem, for Jeroboam and his sons have cast them off from acting as priests to Jehovah,

15 e si era costituito sacerdoti per gli alti luoghi, per i demoni e per i vitelli che aveva fatto.

and he establisheth to him priests for high places, and for goats, and for calves, that he made --

16 D opo i Leviti quelli di tutte le tribú d'Israele che avevano deciso nel loro cuore di cercare l'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele, andarono a Gerusalemme per offrire sacrifici all'Eterno, il DIO dei loro padri.

and after them, out of all the tribes of Israel, those giving their heart to seek Jehovah, God of Israel, have come in to Jerusalem to sacrifice to Jehovah, God of their father.

17 C osí rafforzarono il regno di Giuda e resero stabile per tre anni Roboamo, figlio di Salomone, perché per tre anni seguirono la via di Davide e di Salomone.

And they strengthen the kingdom of Judah, and strengthen Rehoboam son of Solomon, for three years, because they walked in the way of David and Solomon for three years.

18 R oboamo prese in moglie Mahalath, figlia di Jerimoth, figlio di Davide e di Abihail figlia di Eliab, figlio di Isai.

And Rehoboam taketh to him a wife, Mahalath, child of Jerimoth son of David, Abigail daughter of Eliab, son of Jesse.

19 E ssa gli partorí i figli Jeush, Scemariah e Zaham.

And she beareth to him sons, Jeush, and Shamaria, and Zaham.

20 D opo di lei prese Maakah, figlia di Absalom, la quale gli partorí Abijah, Attai, Ziza e Scelomith.

And after her he hath taken Maachah daughter of Absalom, and she beareth to him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.

21 R oboamo amò Maakah, figlia di Absalom, piú di tutte le sue mogli e concubine (egli prese diciotto mogli e sessanta concubine e generò ventotto figli e sessanta figlie).

And Rehoboam loveth Maachah daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines -- for eighteen wives he hath taken, and sixty concubines -- and he begetteth twenty and eight sons, and sixty daughters.

22 R oboamo costituí Abijah, figlio di Maakah, come capo per essere principe tra i suoi fratelli, perché pensava di farlo re.

And Rehoboam appointeth for head Abijah son of Maachah, for leader among his brethren, for to cause him to reign.

23 E gli agí con accortezza e disseminò alcuni dei suoi figli in tutte le contrade di Giuda e di Beniamino, in tutte le città fortificate; diede loro viveri in abbondanza e cercò per loro molte mogli.

And he hath understanding, and spreadeth out of all his sons to all lands of Judah and Benjamin, to all cities of the bulwarks, and giveth to them provision in abundance; and he asketh a multitude of wives.
