1 « Il vostro cuore non sia turbato; credete in Dio e credete anche in me.

`Let not your heart be troubled, believe in God, also in me believe;

2 N ella casa del Padre mio ci sono molte dimore; se no, ve lo avrei detto; io vado a prepararvi un posto.

in the house of my Father are many mansions; and if not, I would have told you; I go on to prepare a place for you;

3 E quando sarò andato e vi avrò preparato il posto, ritornerò e vi accoglierò presso di me, affinché dove sono io siate anche voi.

and if I go on and prepare for you a place, again do I come, and will receive you unto myself, that where I am ye also may be;

4 V oi sapete dove io vado e conoscete anche la via».

and whither I go away ye have known, and the way ye have known.'

5 T ommaso gli disse: «Signore, noi non sappiamo dove vai; come dunque possiamo conoscere la via?»

Thomas saith to him, `Sir, we have not known whither thou goest away, and how are we able to know the way?'

6 G esú gli disse: «Io sono la via, la verità e la vita; nessuno viene al Padre se non per mezzo di me.

Jesus saith to him, `I am the way, and the truth, and the life, no one doth come unto the Father, if not through me;

7 S e mi aveste conosciuto, avreste conosciuto anche mio Padre; fin da ora lo conoscete e l'avete visto».

if ye had known me, my Father also ye would have known, and from this time ye have known Him, and have seen Him.'

8 F ilippo gli disse: «Signore, mostraci il Padre e ci basta».

Philip saith to him, `Sir, shew to us the Father, and it is enough for us;'

9 G esú gli disse: «Da tanto tempo io sono con voi e tu non mi hai ancora conosciuto, Filippo? Chi ha visto me, ha visto il Padre; come mai dici: "Mostraci il Padre?"

Jesus saith to him, `So long time am I with you, and thou hast not known me, Philip? he who hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how dost thou say, Shew to us the Father?

10 N on credi che io sono nel Padre e che il Padre è in me? Le parole che io vi dico, non le dico da me stesso. Il Padre che dimora in me è colui che fa le opere.

Believest thou not that I in the Father, and the Father is in me? the sayings that I speak to you, from myself I speak not, and the Father who is abiding in me, Himself doth the works;

11 C redetemi che io sono nel Padre e che il Padre è in me, se no, credetemi a motivo delle opere stesse.

believe me, that I in the Father, and the Father in me; and if not, because of the works themselves, believe me.

12 I n verità, in verità vi dico: chi crede in me farà anch'egli le opere che io faccio; anzi ne farà di piú grandi di queste, perché io vado al Padre.

`Verily, verily, I say to you, he who is believing in me, the works that I do -- that one also shall do, and greater than these he shall do, because I go on to my Father;

13 E qualunque cosa chiederete nel nome mio la farò, affinché il Padre sia glorificato nel Figlio.

and whatever ye may ask in my name, I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son;

14 S e chiedete qualche cosa nel nome mio, io la farò».

if ye ask anything in my name I will do.

15 « Se mi amate, osservate i miei comandamenti,

`If ye love me, my commands keep,

16 E d io pregherò il Padre ed egli vi darà un altro Consolatore, che rimanga con voi per sempre,

and I will ask the Father, and another Comforter He will give to you, that he may remain with you -- to the age;

17 l o Spirito della verità, che il mondo non può ricevere, perché non lo vede e non lo conosce; ma voi lo conoscete, perché dimora con voi e sarà in voi.

the Spirit of truth, whom the world is not able to receive, because it doth not behold him, nor know him, and ye know him, because he doth remain with you, and shall be in you.

18 N on vi lascerò orfani; tornerò a voi.

`I will not leave you bereaved, I come unto you;

19 A ncora un po' di tempo e il mondo non mi vedrà piú, ma voi mi vedrete; poiché io vivo, anche voi vivrete.

yet a little, and the world doth no more behold me, and ye behold me, because I live, and ye shall live;

20 I n quel giorno conoscerete che io sono nel Padre mio, e che voi siete in me ed Io in voi.

in that day ye shall know that I in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you;

21 C hi ha i miei comandamenti e li osserva, è uno che mi ama, e chi mi ama sarà amato dal Padre mio; e io lo amerò e mi manifesterò a lui».

he who is having my commands, and is keeping them, that one it is who is loving me, and he who is loving me shall be loved by my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.'

22 G iuda, non l'Iscariota, gli disse: «Signore, come mai ti manifesterai a noi e non al mondo?».

Judas saith to him, (not the Iscariot), `Sir, what hath come to pass, that to us thou are about to manifest thyself, and not to the world?'

23 G esú rispose e gli disse: «Se uno mi ama, osserverà la mia parola; e il Padre mio l'amerà, e noi verremo a lui e faremo dimora presso di lui.

Jesus answered and said to him, `If any one may love me, my word he will keep, and my Father will love him, and unto him we will come, and abode with him we will make;

24 C hi non mi ama, non osserva le mie parole; e la parola che udite non è mia, ma del Padre che mi ha mandato.

he who is not loving me, my words doth not keep; and the word that ye hear is not mine, but the Father's who sent me.

25 V i ho detto queste cose, mentre ero con voi;

`These things I have spoken to you, remaining with you,

26 m a il Consolatore, lo Spirito Santo, che il Padre manderà nel mio nome, vi insegnerà ogni cosa e vi ricorderà tutto ciò che vi ho detto.

and the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and remind you of all things that I said to you.

27 I o vi lascio la pace, vi do la mia pace; io ve la do, non come la dà il mondo; il vostro cuore non sia turbato e non si spaventi.

`Peace I leave to you; my peace I give to you, not according as the world doth give do I give to you; let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid;

28 A vete udito che vi ho detto: "Io me ne vado e tornerò a voi". Se voi mi amaste, vi rallegrereste perché ho detto: "Io vado al Padre" poiché il Padre è piú grande di me.

ye heard that I said to you -- I go away, and I come unto you; if ye did love me, ye would have rejoiced that I said -- I go on to the Father, because my Father is greater than I.

29 E ora ve l'ho detto, prima che avvenga affinché, quando avverrà, crediate.

`And now I have said to you before it come to pass, that when it may come to pass, ye may believe;

30 N on parlerò piú a lungo con voi, perché viene il principe di questo mondo e non ha nulla in me;

I will no more talk much with you, for the ruler of this world doth come, and in me he hath nothing;

31 m a questo accade affinché il mondo conosca che io amo il Padre e che faccio come il Padre mi ha comandato. Alzatevi, andiamo via di qui».

but that the world may know that I love the Father, and according as the Father gave me command so I do; arise, we may go hence.
