A son of eight years Josiah in his reigning, and thirty and one years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother Jedidah daughter of Adaiah of Boskath,

2 E gli fece ciò che è giusto agli occhi dell'Eterno e seguí in tutto la via di Davide suo padre, senza deviare né a destra né a sinistra.

and he doth that which is right in the eyes of Jehovah, and walketh in all the way of David his father, and hath not turned aside -- right or left.

3 N ell'anno diciottesimo del re Giosia avvenne che il re mandò nella casa dell'Eterno Shafan, il segretario, figlio di Atsaliah, figlio di Meshullam, dicendo:

And it cometh to pass, in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, the king hath sent Shaphan son of Azaliah, son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the house of Jehovah, saying,

4 « Sali dal sommo sacerdote Hilkiah e digli che metta assieme il denaro che è stato portato nella casa dell'Eterno e che i portinai hanno raccolto dal popolo,

`Go up unto Hilkiah the high priest, and he doth complete the silver that is brought into the house of Jehovah, that the keepers of the threshold have gathered from the people,

5 L o si consegni nelle mani di coloro che fanno il lavoro, a cui è affidata la sorveglianza della casa dell'Eterno; e questi lo consegnino agli operai che sono nella casa dell'Eterno per riparare i guasti del tempio:

and they give it into the hand of the doers of the work, the overseers, in the house of Jehovah, and they give it to the doers of the work that in the house of Jehovah, to strengthen the breach of the house,

6 a i falegnami, ai costruttori e ai muratori, e per comprare legname e pietre squadrate, necessarie per riparare il tempio.

to artificers, and to builders, and the wall, and to buy wood and hewn stones to strengthen the house;

7 M a non si chieda loro alcun conto del denaro consegnato nelle loro mani, perché agiscono con fedeltà».

only, the silver that is given into their hand is not reckoned with them, for in faithfulness they are dealing.

8 A llora il sommo sacerdote Hilkiah disse a Shafan, il segretario: «Ho trovato nella casa dell'Eterno il libro della legge». Hilkiah diede quindi il libro a Shafan, che lo lesse.

And Hilkiah the high priest saith unto Shaphan the scribe, `A book of the law I have found in the house of Jehovah;' and Hilkiah giveth the book unto Shaphan, and he readeth it.

9 C osí Shafan, il segretario, andò dal re a riferire la cosa, dicendo: «I tuoi servi hanno raccolto il denaro trovato nel tempio e l'hanno consegnato nelle mani di coloro che fanno il lavoro, a cui è affidata la sorveglianza della casa dell'Eterno».

And Shaphan the scribe cometh in unto the king, and bringeth the king back word, and saith, `Thy servants have poured out the silver that hath been found in the house, and give it into the hand of the doers of the work, the inspectors, in the house of Jehovah.'

10 I noltre Shafan, il segretario, riferì al re: «Il sacerdote Hilkiah mi ha dato un libro». E Shafan lo lesse alla presenza del re.

And Shaphan the scribe declareth to the king, saying, `A book hath Hilkiah the priest given to me;' and Shaphan readeth it before the king.

11 O r avvenne che, quando il re udì le parole del libro della legge, si stracciò le vesti.

And it cometh to pass, at the king's hearing the words of the book of the law, that he rendeth his garments,

12 P oi il re ordinò al sacerdote Hilkiah ad Ahikam figlio di Shafan, ad Akbor figlio di Mikaiah, a Shafan il segretario e ad Asaiah servo del re:

and the king commandeth Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam son of Shaphan, and Achbor son of Michaiah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asahiah servant of the king, saying,

13 « Andate a consultare l'Eterno per me, per il popolo e per tutto Giuda, riguardo alle parole di questo libro che è stato trovato; poiché grande è l'ira dell'Eterno che si è accesa contro di noi perché i nostri padri non hanno ubbidito alle parole di questo libro e non hanno agito in conformità a tutto ciò che è scritto per noi».

`Go, seek Jehovah for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found, for great the fury of Jehovah that is kindled against us, because that our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according to all that is written for us.'

14 A llora il sacerdote Hilkiah, Ahikam, Akbor, Shafan e Asaiah andarono dalla profetessa Huldah, moglie di Shallum figlio di Tikvah, figlio di Harhas, il guardarobiere, (ella abitava a Gerusalemme nel secondo quartiere), e parlarono con lei.

And Hilkiah the priest goeth, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asahiah, unto Huldah the prophetess, wife of Shallum, son of Tikvah, son of Harhas, keeper of the garments, and she is dwelling in Jerusalem in the second, and they speak unto her.

15 E lla rispose loro: «Così dice l'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele: Riferite a colui che vi ha mandati da me:

And she saith unto them, `Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, Say to the man who hath sent you unto me:

16 " Cosi dice l'Eterno: Ecco, io farò venire una sciagura su questo luogo e sui suoi abitanti, tutte le parole del libro che il re di Giuda ha letto,

Thus said Jehovah, Lo, I am bringing in evil unto this place and on its inhabitants, all the words of the book that the king of Judah hath read,

17 p erché essi mi hanno abbandonato e hanno bruciato incenso ad altri dèi per provocarmi ad ira con tutte le opere delle loro mani. Perciò la mia ira si è accesa contro questo luogo e non si spegnerà".

because that they have forsaken Me, and make perfume to other gods, so as to provoke Me to anger with every work of their hands, and My wrath hath been kindled against this place, and it is not quenched.

18 M a al re di Giuda che vi ha mandato a consultare l'Eterno, gli direte questo: "Cosí dice l'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele: riguardo alle parole che tu hai udito,

`And unto the king of Judah, who is sending you to seek Jehovah, thus do ye say unto him, Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, The words that thou hast heard --

19 p oiché il tuo cuore si è intenerito e ti sei umiliato davanti all'Eterno quando hai udito ciò che ho detto contro questo luogo e contro i suoi abitanti, che sarebbero divenuti una desolazione e una maledizione, e ti sei stracciato le vesti e hai pianto davanti a me, anch'io ti ho ascoltato", dice l'Eterno.

because thy heart tender, and thou art humbled because of Jehovah, in thy hearing that which I have spoken against this place, and against its inhabitants, to be for a desolation, and for a reviling, and dost rend thy garments, and weep before Me -- I also have heard -- the affirmation of Jehovah --

20 " Perciò, ecco, io ti riunirò ai tuoi padri e sarai deposto in pace nel tuo sepolcro; e i tuoi occhi non vedranno tutto il male che io farò venire su questo luogo"». E quelli riferirono il messaggio al re.

therefore, lo, I am gathering thee unto thy fathers, and thou hast been gathered unto thy grave in peace, and thine eyes do not look on any of the evil that I am bringing in on this place;' and they bring the king back word.
