1 L a parola dell'Eterno mi fu rivolta, dicendo:

And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying,

2 « Ora, figlio d'uomo, non giudicherai tu, non giudicherai la città sanguinaria? Falle dunque conoscere tutte le sue abominazioni

`And thou, son of man, dost thou judge? dost thou judge the city of blood? then thou hast caused it to know all its abominations,

3 P oi di Cosí dice il Signore, l'Eterno: La città versa il sangue nel suo mezzo per far venire il suo tempo; inoltre fa idoli contro se stessa per contaminarsi.

and thou hast said: Thus said the Lord Jehovah: The city is shedding blood in its midst, For the coming in of its time, And it hath made idols on it for defilement.

4 P er il sangue che hai versato ti sei resa colpevole e ti sei contaminata per gli idoli che hai fatto. Hai fatto avvicinare i tuoi giorni e sei giunta al termine dei tuoi anni, perciò ti renderò il vituperio delle nazioni e lo scherno di tutti i paesi.

By thy blood that thou hast shed thou hast been guilty, And by thine idols that thou hast made thou hast been defiled, And thou causest thy days to draw near, And art come in unto thine years, Therefore I have given thee a reproach to nations, And a derision to all the lands.

5 Q uelli che sono vicini e quelli che sono lontani da te si faranno beffe di te o contaminata di fama e piena di disordine.

The near and the far-off from thee scoff at thee, O defiled of name -- abounding in trouble.

6 E cco i principi d'Israele: ognuno ha usato il suo potere per versare il sangue in te.

Lo, princes of Israel -- each according to his arm Have been in thee to shed blood.

7 I n te si disprezza il padre e la madre in mezzo a te si opprime lo straniero, in te si maltratta l'orfano e la vedova.

Father and mother made light of in thee, To a sojourner they dealt oppressively in thy midst, Fatherless and widow they oppressed in thee.

8 T u hai disprezzato le mie cose sante e hai profanato i miei sabati.

My holy things thou hast despised, And My sabbaths thou hast polluted.

9 I n te c'è gente che calunnia per versare sangue, in te c'è chi mangia sui monti, in mezzo a te si commettono scelleratezze.

Men of slander have been in thee to shed blood, And on the mountains they have eaten in thee, Wickedness they have done in thy midst.

10 I n te si scopre la nudità del padre, in te si umilia la donna durante la sua impurità.

The nakedness of a father hath one uncovered in thee, The defiled of impurity they humbled in thee.

11 U no commette abominazione con la moglie del suo prossimo, l'altro contamina d'incesto la sua nuora un'altro ancora in te umilia sua sorella, figlia di suo padre.

And each with the wife of his neighbour hath done abomination, And each his daughter-in-law hath defiled through wickedness, And each his sister, his father's daughter, hath humbled in thee.

12 I n te si ricevono regali per versare il sangue, tu esigi interesse ad usura, hai realizzato guadagni dal prossimo con inganno e hai dimenticato me», dice il Signore l'Eterno.

A bribe they have taken in thee to shed blood, Usury and increase thou hast taken, And cuttest off thy neighbour by oppression, And Me thou hast forgotten, An affirmation of the Lord Jehovah!

13 « Ma ecco io batto le mani per il disonesto guadagno che hai fatto e per il sangue versato che è in mezzo a te.

And lo, I have smitten My hand, Because of thy dishonest gain that thou hast gained, And for thy blood that hath been in thy midst.

14 P otrà reggere il tuo cuore o potranno rimanere forti le tue mani nei giorni in cui agirò contro di te? Io l'Eterno, ho parlato e lo farò.

Doth thy heart stand -- are thy hands strong, For the days that I am dealing with thee? I, Jehovah, have spoken and have done.

15 I o ti disperderò fra le nazioni, ti disseminerò per i paesi ed eliminerò da te la tua immondizia.

And I have scattered thee among nations, And have spread thee out among lands, And consumed thy uncleanness out of thee.

16 T u profanerai te stessa agli occhi delle nazioni e riconoscerai che io sono l'Eterno».

And thou hast been polluted in thyself Before the eyes of nations, And thou hast known that I Jehovah.'

17 L a parola dell'Eterno mi fu rivolta, dicendo:

And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying, `Son of man,

18 « Figlio d'uomo, la casa d'Israele è diventata per me tutta scorie: sono tutti bronzo, stagno, ferro e piombo in mezzo a una fornace; sono diventati scorie d'argento».

The house of Israel hath been to Me for dross, All of them brass, and tin, and iron, and lead, In the midst of a furnace -- dross hath silver been,

19 P erciò cosí dice il Signore, l'Eterno: «Poiché siete tutti diventati tante scorie, ecco io vi radunerò in mezzo a Gerusalemme.

Therefore, thus said the Lord Jehovah: Because of your all becoming dross, Therefore, lo, I am gathering you unto the midst of Jerusalem,

20 C ome si raduna argento, bronzo, ferro piombo e stagno in mezzo alla fornace e si soffia su di essi il fuoco per fonderli cosí nella mia ira e nel mio furore vi radunerò, vi metterò là e vi fonderò

A gathering of silver, and brass, and iron, and lead, and tin, Unto the midst of a furnace -- to blow on it fire, to melt it, So do I gather in Mine anger and in My fury, And I have let rest, and have melted you.

21 V i radunerò e soffierò su di voi col fuoco della mia ira e voi sarete fusi in mezzo ad essa.

And I have heaped you up, And blown on you in the fire of My wrath, And ye have been melted in its midst.

22 C ome l'argento è fuso in mezzo alla fornace cosí voi sarete fusi in mezzo alla città; e riconoscerete che io l'Eterno, ho riversato su di voi il mio furore».

As the melting of silver in the midst of a furnace, So are ye melted in its midst, And ye have known that I, Jehovah, I have poured out My fury upon you.'

23 L a parola dell'Eterno mi fu nuovamente rivolta, dicendo:

And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying:

24 « Figlio d'uomo, di' a Gerusalemme: Tu sei una terra che non è stata purificata o bagnata da pioggia in un giorno di indignazione.

`Son of man, say to it, Thou a land, It not cleansed nor rained on in a day of indignation.

25 L a cospirazione dei suoi profeti nel suo mezzo è come un leone ruggente che sbrana la preda, essi divorano la gente, si appropriano di tesori e cose preziose, accrescono le vedove in mezzo ad essa.

A conspiracy of its prophets in its midst, as a roaring lion tearing prey; The soul they have devoured, Wealth and glory they have taken, Its widows have multiplied in its midst.

26 I suoi sacerdoti violano la mia legge e profanano le mie cose sante; non distinguono fra santo e profano, non fanno conoscere la differenza tra l'impuro e il puro e distolgono i loro occhi dai miei sabati, per cui io sono profanato in mezzo a loro.

Its priests have wronged My law, And they pollute My holy things, Between holy and common they have not made separation, And between the unclean and the clean they have not made known, And from my sabbaths they have hidden their eyes, And I am pierced in their midst.

27 I suoi capi in mezzo ad essa sono come lupi che dilaniano la preda per versare sangue e distruggere anime per realizzare un ingiusto guadagno.

Its princes in its midst as wolves, Tearing prey, to shed blood, to destroy souls, For the sake of gaining dishonest gain.

28 I suoi profeti intonacano per loro con malta che non regge avendo visioni false e proferendo divinazioni bugiarde per loro, e dicono: Cosí dice il Signore, l'Eterno mentre l'Eterno non ha parlato.

And its prophets have daubed for them with chalk, Seeing a vain thing, and divining for them a lie, Saying, `Thus said the Lord Jehovah:' And Jehovah hath not spoken.

29 I l popolo del paese pratica l'oppressione, compie rapine, maltratta il povero e il bisognoso e opprime lo straniero violando la giustizia.

The people of the land have used oppression, And have taken plunder violently away, And humble and needy have oppressed, And the sojourner oppressed -- without judgment.

30 I o ho cercato fra loro un uomo che costruisse un muro e stesse sulla breccia davanti a me in favore del paese, perché io non lo distruggessi, ma non l'ho trovato.

And I seek of them a man making a fence, And standing in the breach before Me, In behalf of the land -- not to destroy it, And I have not found.

31 P erciò io riverserò su di loro la mia indignazione, li consumerò col fuoco della mia ira e farò ricadere sul loro capo la loro condotta», dice il Signore, l'Eterno.

And I pour out on them mine indignation, By fire of My wrath I have consumed them, Their way on their own head I have put, An affirmation of the Lord Jehovah!'
