1 « Canto dei pellegrinaggi.» Ricordati, o Eterno, di Davide e di tutte le sue fatiche,

A Song of the Ascents. Remember, Jehovah, for David, all his afflictions.

2 c ome egli giurò all'Eterno e fece voto al Potente di Giacobbe, dicendo:

Who hath sworn to Jehovah. He hath vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob:

3 « Non entrerò nella tenda della mia casa, né salirò sul mio letto;

`If I enter into the tent of my house, If I go up on the couch of my bed,

4 n on darò sonno ai miei occhi né riposo alle mie palpebre,

If I give sleep to mine eyes, To mine eyelids -- slumber,

5 f inché abbia trovato un luogo per l'Eterno, una dimora per il Potente di Giacobbe».

Till I do find a place for Jehovah, Tabernacles for the Mighty One of Jacob.

6 E cco, ne abbiamo sentito parlare in Efratah, l'abbiamo trovata nei campi di Jaar.

`Lo, we have heard it in Ephratah, We have found it in the fields of the forest.

7 A ndiamo nella sua dimora adoriamo davanti allo sgabello dei suoi piedi.

We come in to His tabernacles, We bow ourselves at His footstool.

8 L evati, o Eterno e vieni al luogo del tuo riposo, tu e l'arca della tua forza.

Arise, O Jehovah, to Thy rest, Thou, and the ark of Thy strength,

9 I tuoi sacerdoti siano rivestiti di giustizia, e cantino di gioia i tuoi santi.

Thy priests do put on righteousness, And Thy pious ones cry aloud.

10 P er amore di Davide, tuo servo, non respingere il volto del tuo unto.

For the sake of David Thy servant, Turn not back the face of Thine anointed.

11 L 'Eterno ha giurato a Davide in verità e non cambierà: «Io metterò sul tuo trono un frutto delle tue viscere.

Jehovah hath sworn truth to David, He turneth not back from it: Of the fruit of thy body, I set on the throne for thee.

12 S e i tuoi figli osserveranno il mio patto e i miei precetti, che insegnerò loro, anche i loro figli sederanno per sempre sul tuo trono».

If thy sons keep My covenant, And My testimonies that I teach them, Their sons also for ever and ever, Do sit on the throne for thee.

13 P oiché l'Eterno ha scelto Sion, egli l'ha desiderata per sua dimora:

For Jehovah hath fixed on Zion, He hath desired for a seat to Himself,

14 « Questo è il mio luogo di riposo per sempre; qui abiterò, perché l'ho desiderato.

This My rest for ever and ever, Here do I sit, for I have desired it.

15 B enedirò largamente le sue provviste, sazierò di pane i suoi poveri;

Her provision I greatly bless, Her needy ones I satisfy bread,

16 r ivestirò i suoi sacerdoti di salvezza, esulteranno i suoi santi con grida di gioia.

And her priests I clothe salvation, And her pious ones do sing aloud.

17 Q ui farò crescere la potenza di Davide e provvederò una lampada al mio unto.

There I cause to spring up a horn for David, I have arranged a lamp for Mine anointed.

18 C oprirò di vergogna i suoi nemici, ma su di lui fiorirà la sua corona».

His enemies I do clothe shame, And upon him doth his crown flourish!
