1 Q uando Jabin, re di Hatsor, venne a sapere queste cose, mandò messaggeri a Jobab re di Madon, al re di Scimron, al re di Akshaf,

And it cometh to pass when Jabin king of Hazor heareth, that he sendeth unto Jobab king of Madon, and unto the king of Shimron, and unto the king of Achshaph,

2 a i re che erano al nord nella regione montuosa, nell'Arabah, a sud di Kinnereth, nel bassopiano e sulle alture di Dor, a ovest,

and unto the kings who on the north in the hill-country, and in the plain south of Chinneroth, and in the low country, and in the elevations of Dor, on the west,

3 a i Cananei che erano a est e a ovest, agli Amorei, agli Hittei, ai Perezei, ai Gebusei nella regione montuosa, agli Hivvei ai piedi del monte Hermon nel paese di Mitspah

the Canaanite on the east, and on the west, and the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite in the hill-country, and the Hivite under Hermon, in the land of Mizpeh --

4 C osì essi uscirono, essi e tutti i loro eserciti con loro, una stragrande moltitudine come la sabbia che è sulla riva del mare e con cavalli e carri in grandissima quantità.

and they go out, they and all their camps with them, a people numerous, as the sand which on the sea-shore for multitude, and horse and charioteer very many;

5 C osì tutti questi re si riunirono e vennero ad accamparsi assieme presso le acque di Merom, per combattere contro Israele.

and all these kings are met together, and they come and encamp together at the waters of Merom, to fight with Israel.

6 M a l'Eterno disse a Giosuè: «Non aver paura a motivo di loro, perché domani a quest'ora li farò vedere tutti uccisi davanti a Israele. Taglierai i garetti ai loro cavalli e brucerai i loro carri».

And Jehovah saith unto Joshua, `Be not afraid of their presence, for to-morrow about this time I am giving all of them wounded before Israel; their horses thou dost hough, and their chariots burn with fire.'

7 G iosuè dunque, e tutta la gente di guerra con lui, marciò all'improvviso contro di essi alle acque di Merom e piombò su di loro;

And Joshua cometh, and all the people of war with him, against them by the waters of Merom suddenly, and they fall on them;

8 e l'Eterno li diede nelle mani degli Israeliti, i quali li batterono e li inseguirono fino a Sidone la grande, fino alle acque i Misrefoth e fino alla valle di Mitspah, verso est; li batterono fino a non lasciar loro alcun superstite.

and Jehovah giveth them into the hand of Israel, and they smite them and pursue them unto the great Zidon, and unto Misrephoth-Maim, and unto the valley of Mizpeh eastward, and they smite them, till he hath not left to them a remnant;

9 G iosuè li trattò come gli aveva detto l'Eterno: tagliò i garetti ai loro cavalli e bruciò i loro carri.

and Joshua doth to them as Jehovah said to him; their horses he hath houghed, and their chariots burnt with fire.

10 I n quello stesso tempo Giosuè ritornò e prese Hatsor, e uccise il suo re con la spada, perché in passato Hatsor era stata la capitale di tutti quei regni.

And Joshua turneth back at that time, and captureth Hazor, and its king he hath smitten by the sword; for Hazor formerly head of all these kingdoms;

11 p assò a fil di spada tutte le persone che vi si trovavano, votandole allo sterminio; non lasciò anima viva; poi diede Hatsor alle fiamme.

and they smite every person who in it by the mouth of the sword; he hath devoted -- he hath not left any one breathing, and Hazor he hath burnt with fire;

12 C osì Giosuè prese tutte le città di quei regni e tutti i loro re e li passò a fil di spada, votandoli allo sterminio, come aveva ordinato Mosè, servo dell'Eterno.

and all the cities of these kings, and all their kings, hath Joshua captured, and he smiteth them by the mouth of the sword; he devoted them, as Moses, servant of Jehovah, commanded.

13 M a Israele non arse alcuna delle città poste sui colli, ad eccezione di Hatsor, la sola che Giosuè incendiò.

Only, all the cities which are standing by their hill, Israel hath not burned them, save Hazor only, hath Joshua burnt;

14 I figli d'Israele presero per sé tutto il bottino di quelle città e il bestiame, ma passarono a fil di spada tutti gli uomini fino a sterminarli, e non lasciarono anima viva.

and all the spoil of these cities, and the cattle, have the sons of Israel spoiled for themselves; only, every human being they have smitten by the mouth of the sword, till their destroying them; they have not left any one breathing.

15 C ome l'Eterno aveva comandato a Mosè suo servo, così Mosè comandò a Giosuè, e così fece Giosuè, il quale non trascurò nulla di tutto ciò che l'Eterno aveva comandato a Mosè.

As Jehovah commanded Moses His servant, so did Moses command Joshua, and so hath Joshua done; he hath not turned aside a thing of all that Jehovah commanded Moses.

16 G iosuè dunque prese tutto quel paese, la regione montuosa, tutto il Neghev, tutto il paese di Goscen, il bassopiano, l'Arabah, la regione montuosa d'Israele e i suoi bassopiani,

And Joshua taketh all this land: the hill-country, and all the south, and all the land of Goshen, and the low country, and the plain, even the hill-country of Israel and its low lands,

17 d al monte Holak che si eleva verso Seir, fino a Baal-Gad nella valle del Libano ai piedi del monte Hermon; prese tutti i loro re, li colpì e li mise a morte.

from the mount of Halak, which is going up Seir, and unto Baal-Gad, in the valley of Lebanon, under mount Hermon; and all their kings he hath captured, and he smiteth them, and putteth them to death.

18 G iosuè combattè con tutti quei re a lungo.

Many days hath Joshua made with all these kings war;

19 N on ci fu città che facesse pace con i figli d'Israele, eccetto gli Hivvei che abitavano in Gabaon; le presero tutte combattendo.

there hath not been a city which made peace with the sons of Israel save the Hivite, inhabitants of Gibeon; the whole they have taken in battle;

20 E ra infatti l'Eterno stesso che induriva il loro cuore perché facessero guerra contro Israele, affinché Israele li votasse allo sterminio senza usare alcuna pietà verso di loro, ma li annientasse come l'Eterno aveva comandato a Mosè.

for from Jehovah it hath been to strengthen their heart, to meet in battle with Israel, in order to devote them, so that they have no grace, but in order to destroy them, as Jehovah commanded Moses.

21 I n quello stesso tempo Giosuè si mise in marcia e sterminò gli Anakiti della regione montuosa: di Hebron, di Debir, di Anab, di tutta la regione montuosa di Giuda e di tutta la regione montuosa d'Israele; Giosuè li votò al completo sterminio con le loro città.

And Joshua cometh at that time, and cutteth off the Anakim from the hill-country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, even from all the hill-country of Judah, and from all the hill-country of Israel; with their cities hath Joshua devoted them.

22 N on rimasero piú Anakiti nel paese dei figli d'Israele; ne rimasero solo alcuni in Gaza, in Gath e in Ashdod.

There hath not been left Anakim in the land of the sons of Israel; only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, were they left.

23 C osì Giosuè prese tutto il paese, esattamente come l'Eterno aveva detto a Mosè; Giosuè quindi lo diede in eredità a Israele, secondo le loro divisioni per tribú. E il paese ebbe riposo dalla guerra.

And Joshua taketh the whole of the land, according to all that Jehovah hath spoken unto Moses, and Joshua giveth it for an inheritance to Israel according to their divisions, by their tribes; and the land hath rest from war.
