1 O r i figli di Ruben e i figli di Gad, avevano una enorme quantità di bestiame; e quando videro che il paese di Jazer e il paese di Galaad erano un luogo adatto per allevare bestiame,

And much cattle hath been to the sons of Reuben and to the sons of Gad, very many; and they see the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead, and lo, the place a place cattle;

2 i figli di Gad e i figli di Ruben vennero a parlare a Mosè, al sacerdote Eleazar e ai principi dell'assemblea, e dissero:

and the sons of Gad, and the sons of Reuben, come in and speak unto Moses, and unto Eleazar the priest, and unto the princes of the company, saying:

3 « Ataroth, Dibon, Jaazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo e Beon,

`Ataroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Shebam, and Nebo, and Beon --

4 i l paese che l'Eterno ha colpito davanti all'assemblea d'Israele, è un paese adatto per allevare bestiame e i tuoi servi hanno del bestiame».

the land which Jehovah hath smitten before the company of Israel, is a land for cattle, and thy servants have cattle.'

5 D issero ancora: «Se abbiamo trovato grazia ai tuoi occhi, questo paese sia concesso in proprietà ai tuoi servi, e non farci passare il Giordano».

And they say, `If we have found grace in thine eyes, let this land be given to thy servants for a possession; cause us not to pass over the Jordan.'

6 M a Mosè rispose ai figli di Gad e ai figli di Ruben: Dovrebbero i vostri fratelli andare in guerra, mentre voi ve ne state qui?

And Moses saith to the sons of Gad and to the sons of Reuben, `Do your brethren go in to the battle, and ye -- do ye sit here?

7 P erché mai vorreste scoraggiare il cuore dei figli d'Israele dall'entrare nel paese che l'Eterno ha loro dato?

and why discourage ye the heart of the sons of Israel from passing over unto the land which Jehovah hath given to them?

8 C osì fecero i vostri padri, quando li mandai da Kadesh-Barnea per esplorare il paese.

`Thus did your fathers in my sending them from Kadesh-Barnea to see the land;

9 S alirono fino alla valle di Eshkol; e, dopo aver visto il paese, scoraggiarono il cuore dei figli d'Israele, e così essi non entrarono nel paese che l'Eterno aveva loro dato.

and they go up unto the valley of Eshcol, and see the land, and discourage the heart of the sons of Israel so as not to go in unto the land which Jehovah hath given to them;

10 C osì l'ira dell'Eterno si accese in quel giorno ed egli giurò, dicendo:

and the anger of Jehovah burneth in that day, and He sweareth, saying,

11 " Certamente nessuno degli uomini, che sono saliti dall'Egitto dall'età di vent'anni in su, vedrà mai il paese che giurai di dare ad Abrahamo, Isacco e Giacobbe, perché essi non mi hanno seguito pienamente,

They do not see -- the men who are coming up out of Egypt from a son of twenty years and upward -- the ground which I have sworn to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, for they have not been fully after Me;

12 a d eccezione di Caleb, figlio di Jefunneh, il Kenizeo, e di Giosuè, figlio di Nun, perché essi hanno seguito pienamente l'Eterno".

save Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua son of Nun, for they have been fully after Jehovah;

13 C osì l'ira dell'Eterno si accese contro Israele; ed egli li fece vagare nel deserto per quarant'anni, finchè tutta la generazione che aveva fatto il male gli occhi dell'Eterno fu distrutta.

and the anger of Jehovah burneth against Israel, and He causeth them to wander in the wilderness forty years, until the consumption of all the generation which is doing the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah.

14 E d ecco voi subentrate al posto dei vostri padri, genia di uomini peccatori, per accrescere ancor di più l'ardente ira dell'Eterno contro Israele.

`And lo, ye have risen in the stead of your fathers, an increase of men -- sinners, to add yet to the fury of the anger of Jehovah toward Israel;

15 P erché se rifiutate di seguirlo, egli continuerà a lasciare Israele nel deserto, e voi farete perire tutto questo popolo».

when ye turn back from after Him, then He hath added yet to leave him in the wilderness, and ye have done corruptly to all this people.'

16 A llora essi si avvicinarono a Mosè egli dissero: «Noi edificheremo qui dei recinti per il nostro bestiame e delle città per i nostri piccoli;

And they come nigh unto him, and say, `Folds for the flock we build for our cattle here, and cities for our infants;

17 m a noi siamo pronti a marciare armati in testa ai figli d'Israele, finchè li abbiamo condotti al loro luogo; nel frattempo i nostri piccoli dimoreranno nelle città fortificate a motivo degli abitanti del paese.

and we -- we are armed hasting before the sons of Israel till that we have brought them in unto their place; and our infants have dwelt in the cities of defence because of the inhabitants of the land;

18 N on torneremo alle nostre case finche ciascuno dei figli d'Israele sia entrato in possesso della sua eredità,

we do not turn back unto our houses till the sons of Israel have inherited each his inheritance,

19 p erché non riceveremo alcuna eredità con loro al di là del Giordano ed oltre, Poiché la nostra eredità ci è toccata da questa parte del Giordano, a est».

for we do not inherit with them beyond the Jordan and yonder, for our inheritance hath come unto us beyond the Jordan at the -rising.'

20 A llora Mosè disse loro: «Se fate questo, se vi armate per la guerra davanti all'Eterno,

And Moses saith unto them, `If ye do this thing: if ye are armed before Jehovah for battle,

21 e tutti gli uomini armati di voi passeranno il Giordano davanti all'Eterno, finché egli abbia scacciato i suoi nemici dalla sua presenza

and every armed one of you hath passed over the Jordan before Jehovah, till his dispossessing His enemies from before Him,

22 e la terra sia soggiogata davanti all'Eterno, e dopo questo tornate indietro, allora non sarete colpevoli di fronte all'Eterno e di fronte a Israele, e questo paese sarà vostra proprietà davanti all'Eterno.

and the land hath been subdued before Jehovah -- then afterwards ye do turn back, and have been acquitted by Jehovah, and by Israel; and this land hath been to you for a possession before Jehovah.

23 M a se non fate così, allora peccherete contro l'Eterno; e state pur certi che il vostro peccato vi ritroverà.

`And if ye do not so, lo, ye have sinned against Jehovah, and know ye your sin, that it doth find you;

24 C ostruite delle città per i vostri piccoli e dei recinti per le vostre greggi, e fate ciò che la vostra bocca ha proferito».

build for yourselves cities for your infants, and folds for your flock, and that which is going out from your mouth do ye.'

25 E i figli di Gad e i figli di Ruben parlarono a Mosè, dicendo: «I tuoi servi faranno come il mio signore comanda.

And the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben speak unto Moses, saying, `Thy servants do as my lord is commanding;

26 I nostri piccoli, le nostre mogli, le nostre greggi e tutto il nostro bestiame rimarranno qui nelle città di Galaad;

our infants, our wives, our cattle, and all our beasts, are there in cities of Gilead,

27 m a i tuoi servi, tutti gli uomini armati per la guerra, passeranno il Giordano per combattere davanti all'Eterno, come dice il mio signore».

and thy servants pass over, every armed one of the host, before Jehovah, to battle, as my lord is saying.'

28 A llora Mosè diede ordini per loro al sacerdote Eleazar, a Giosuè figlio di Nun e ai capi-famiglia delle tribù dei figli d'Israele.

And Moses commandeth concerning them Eleazar the priest, and Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the sons of Israel;

29 M osè disse loro: «Se i figli di Gad e i figli di Ruben passano con voi il Giordano, tutti gli uomini armati per combattere davanti all'Eterno, e il paese sarà soggiogato davanti a voi, darete loro in proprietà il paese di Galaad.

and Moses saith unto them, `If the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben pass over with you the Jordan, every one armed for battle, before Jehovah, and the land hath been subdued before you, then ye have given to them the land of Gilead for a possession;

30 M a se non passano il Giordano armati con voi, avranno delle proprietà in mezzo a voi nel paese di Canaan».

and if they do not pass over armed with you, then they have possessions in your midst in the land of Canaan.'

31 A llora i figli di Gad e i figli di Ruben risposero dicendo: «Faremo come l'Eterno ha detto ai tuoi servi.

And the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben answer, saying, `That which Jehovah hath spoken unto thy servants -- so we do;

32 P asseremo il Giordano armati davanti all'Eterno nel paese di Canaan affinché il possesso della nostra eredità rimanga per noi da questa parte del Giordano».

we -- we pass over armed before Jehovah the land of Canaan, and with us the possession of our inheritance beyond the Jordan.'

33 M osè dunque diede ai figli di Gad, ai figli di Ruben e alla metà della tribú di Manasse, figlio di Giuseppe, il regno di Sihon, re degli Amorei, e il regno di Og, re di Bashan, il paese con le sue città e i suoi territori, e le città del paese circostante.

And Moses giveth to them, to the sons of Gad, and to the sons of Reuben, and to the half of the tribe of Manasseh son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorite, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land by its cities, in the borders, the cities of the land round about.

34 C osì i figli di Gad costruirono Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer,

And the sons of Gad build Dihon, and Ataroth, and Aroer,

35 A troth-Shofan, Jaazer, Jogbehah,

and Atroth, Shophan, and Jaazer, and Jogbehah,

36 B eth-Nimrah e Beth-Aran, città fortificate, e recinti per le greggi.

and Beth-Nimrah, and Beth-Haran, cities of defence, and sheepfolds.

37 I figli di Ruben costruirono Heshbon, Elealeh, Kirjathaim,

And the sons of Reuben have build Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Kirjathaim,

38 N ebo e Baal-Meon (i loro nomi sono stati cambiati) e Sibmah; e diedero altri nomi alle città che costruirono.

and Nebo, and Baal-Meon (changed in name), and Shibmah, and they call by names the names of the cities which they have built.

39 E i figli di Makir, figlio di Manasse, andarono nel paese i Galaad, lo presero e ne scacciarono gli Amorei che vi abitavano.

And sons of Machir son of Manasseh go to Gilead, and capture it, and dispossess the Amorite, who in it;

40 M osè dunque diede Galaad a Makir figlio di Manasse, che vi si stabilì.

and Moses giveth Gilead to Machir son of Manasseh, and he dwelleth in it.

41 J air, figlio di Manasse, andò e prese i loro villaggi, e li chiamò Havvoth-Jair.

And Jair son of Manasseh hath gone and captureth their towns, and calleth them `Towns of Jair;'

42 N obah invece andò e prese Kenath con i suoi sobborghi e la chiamò Nobah secondo il suo proprio nome.

and Nobah hath gone and captureth Kenath, and its villages, and calleth it Nobah, by his own name.
