1 L a parola dell'Eterno mi fu rivolta, dicendo:

And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying:

2 « Non prendere moglie né avere figli o figlie in questo luogo».

Thou dost not take to thee a wife, Nor hast thou sons and daughters in this place.

3 P oiché cosí dice l'Eterno riguardo ai figli e alle figlie che sono nati in questo paese e riguardo alle madri che li hanno partoriti e ai padri che li hanno generati in questo paese:

For thus said Jehovah, Of the sons and of the daughters who are born in this place, And of their mothers -- those bearing them, And of their fathers -- those begetting them in this land:

4 « Essi moriranno di morti atroci, non saranno rimpianti né sepolti, ma saranno lasciati come letame sulla superficie del suolo; saranno sterminati dalla spada e dalla fame, e i loro cadaveri saranno pasto per gli uccelli del cielo e per le bestie della terra».

Of painful deaths they die, They are not lamented, nor are they buried, For dung on the face of the ground they are, And by sword and by famine are consumed, And their carcase hath been for food To the fowl of the heavens, And to the beast of the earth.

5 P oiché cosí dice l'Eterno: «Non entrare nella casa del lutto e non andare a far cordoglio e a piangerli, perché io ho ritirato da questo popolo la mia pace, la mia benignità e la mia compassione», dice l'Eterno.

For thus said Jehovah: Do not enter the house of a mourning-feast, Nor go to lament nor bemoan for them, For I have removed My peace from this people, An affirmation of Jehovah, The kindness and the mercies.

6 « Grandi e piccoli moriranno in questo paese; non saranno sepolti né si farà cordoglio per essi, non si faranno incisioni né rasatura per essi.

And died have great and small in this land, They are not buried, and none lament for them, Nor doth any cut himself, nor become bald for them.

7 N on si romperà il pane per quelli che fanno cordoglio per consolarli di un morto né si darà loro da bere il calice della consolazione per il proprio padre e la propria madre.

Nor do they deal out to them for mourning, To comfort him concerning the dead, Nor cause them to drink a cup of consolations For his father and for his mother.

8 N on entrare neppure in una casa di banchetto per sederti con loro a mangiare e a bere».

A house of banqueting thou dost not enter, To sit with them, to eat and to drink,

9 P oiché cosí dice l'Eterno degli eserciti, il DIO d'Israele: «Ecco, io farò cessare in questo luogo, sotto i vostri occhi e nei vostri giorni, il grido di gioia e il grido di allegrezza, la voce dello sposo e la voce della sposa.

For thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel: Lo, I am causing to cease from this place, Before your eyes, and in your days, The voice of joy, and the voice of rejoicing, The voice of bridegroom and voice of bride.

10 E avverrà che quando annunzierai a questo popolo tutte queste cose, ti diranno: "Perché l'Eterno ha pronunciato contro di noi tutta questa grande calamità? Qual è la nostra iniquità? Qual è il peccato che abbiamo commesso contro l'Eterno, il nostro DIO?".

And it hath come to pass when thou declarest to this people all these words, and they have said unto thee, `For what hath Jehovah spoken against us all this great evil? yea, what our iniquity, and what our sin, that we have sinned against Jehovah our God?'

11 A llora tu risponderai loro: Perché i vostri padri mi hanno abbandonato», dice l'Eterno, «sono andati dietro ad altri dèi, li hanno serviti e si sono prostrati davanti a loro, hanno abbandonato me e non hanno osservato la mia legge.

Then thou hast said unto them: Because that your fathers have forsaken Me, An affirmation of Jehovah, And go after other gods, and serve them, And they bow themselves to them, And Me have forsaken, and My law not kept,

12 E voi avete fatto peggio dei vostri padri, perché ecco, ciascuno cammina seguendo la caparbietà del suo cuore malvagio e rifiuta di ascoltarmi.

Ye also have done evil above your fathers, And lo, ye are walking each after the stubbornness of his evil heart, So as not to hearken unto Me.

13 P erciò io vi scaccerò da questo paese in un paese che né voi né i vostri padri avete conosciuto e là servirete altri dèi giorno e notte, perché io non vi farò grazia».

And I have cast you from off this land, On to a land that ye have not known, Ye and your fathers, And ye have served there other gods by day and by night, Where I do not give to you grace.

14 « Perciò ecco, vengono i giorni», dice l'Eterno, «nei quali non si dirà piú: "Per l'Eterno vivente che ha fatto uscire i figli d'Israele dal paese d'Egitto",

Therefore, lo, days are coming, An affirmation of Jehovah, And it is not said any more: `Jehovah liveth, who brought up The sons of Israel out of the land of Egypt,'

15 m a: "Per l'Eterno vivente che ha fatto uscire i figli d'Israele dal paese del nord e da tutti i paesi dove li aveva dispersi". E io li ricondurrò nel loro paese che avevo dato ai loro padri.

But, `Jehovah liveth, who brought up The sons of Israel out of the land of the north, And out of all the lands whither He drove them,' And I have brought them back to their land, That I gave to their fathers.

16 E cco, io manderò un gran numero di pescatori a pescarli», dice l'Eterno, «e poi manderò un gran numero di cacciatori che li cacceranno da ogni monte da ogni collina e dalle fessure delle rocce.

Lo, I am sending for many fishers, An affirmation of Jehovah, And they have fished them, And after this I send for many hunters, And they have hunted them from off every mountain, And from off every hill, and from holes of the rocks.

17 P oiché i miei occhi sono su tutte le loro vie, che non sono nascoste dalla mia faccia, né la loro iniquità rimane occulta ai miei occhi.

For Mine eyes upon all their ways, They have not been hidden from My face, Nor hath their iniquity been concealed from before Mine eyes.

18 P rima di tutto li ripagherò doppiamente per la loro iniquità e il loro peccato, perché hanno profanato il mio paese con i cadaveri dei loro idoli esecrandi e hanno riempito la mia eredità con le loro abominazioni».

And I have recompensed a first -- A second time -- their iniquity and their sin, Because of their polluting My land, With the carcase of their detestable things, Yea, their abominable things have filled Mine inheritance.

19 O Eterno, mia forza, mia fortezza, e mio rifugio nel giorno dell'avversità, a te verranno le nazioni dalle estremità della terra e diranno: «I nostri padri hanno ereditato soltanto menzogne, vanità e cose che non giovano a nulla».

O Jehovah, my strength, and my fortress, And my refuge in a day of adversity, Unto Thee nations do come from the ends of earth, And say, Only falsehood did our fathers inherit, Vanity, and none among them is profitable.

20 « Può l'uomo fabbricarsi degli dèi, che però non sono dèi?

Doth man make for himself gods, And they -- no gods?

21 P erciò ecco, questa volta farò loro conoscere, mostrerò loro la mia mano e la mia potenza; ed essi sapranno che il mio nome è l'Eterno»

Therefore, lo, I am causing them to know at this time, I cause them to know My hand and My might, And they have known that My name Jehovah!
