1 P erciò, lasciando l'insegnamento elementare su Cristo, tendiamo alla perfezione, senza porre di nuovo il fondamento del ravvedimento dalle opere morte e della fede in Dio,

Wherefore, having left the word of the beginning of the Christ, unto the perfection we may advance, not again a foundation laying of reformation from dead works, and of faith on God,

2 d ella dottrina dei battesimi, dell'imposizione delle mani, della risurrezione dei morti e del giudizio eterno;

of the teaching of baptisms, of laying on also of hands, of rising again also of the dead, and of judgment age-during,

3 e ciò faremo, se Dio lo permette.

and this we will do, if God may permit,

4 Q uelli infatti che sono stati una volta illuminati, hanno gustato il dono celeste, sono stati fatti partecipi dello Spirito Santo

for impossible for those once enlightened, having tasted also of the heavenly gift, and partakers having became of the Holy Spirit,

5 e hanno gustato la buona parola di Dio e le potenze del mondo a venire

and did taste the good saying of God, the powers also of the coming age,

6 s e cadono, è impossibile riportarli un'altra volta al ravvedimento, poiché per conto loro crocifiggono nuovamente il Figlio di Dio e lo espongono a infamia.

and having fallen away, again to renew to reformation, having crucified again to themselves the Son of God, and exposed to public shame.

7 I nfatti la terra, che beve la pioggia che spesso cade su di essa e produce erbe utili per quelli che la coltivano, riceve benedizione da Dio;

For earth, that is drinking in the rain many times coming upon it, and is bringing forth herbs fit for those because of whom also it is dressed, doth partake of blessing from God,

8 m a se produce spine e triboli, è riprovata e vicina ad essere maledetta, e finirà per essere arsa.

and that which is bearing thorns and briers disapproved of, and nigh to cursing, whose end for burning;

9 O ra, carissimi, anche se parliamo cosí, riguardo a voi siamo convinti di cose migliori e che riguardano la salvezza;

and we are persuaded, concerning you, beloved, the things that are better, and accompanying salvation, though even thus we speak,

10 D io infatti non è ingiusto da dimenticare l'opera vostra e la fatica d'amore che avete mostrato per il suo nome, con i servizi che avete reso e rendete tuttora ai santi.

for God is not unrighteous to forget your work, and the labour of the love, that ye shewed to His name, having ministered to the saints and ministering;

11 E desideriamo che ciascuno di voi mostri fino alla fine il medesimo zelo per giungere alla piena certezza della speranza,

and we desire each one of you the same diligence to shew, unto the full assurance of the hope unto the end,

12 a ffinché non diventiate pigri, ma siate imitatori di coloro che mediante fede e pazienza ereditano le promesse.

that ye may not become slothful, but followers of those who through faith and patient endurance are inheriting the promises.

13 Q uando Dio infatti fece la promessa ad Abrahamo, siccome non poteva giurare per nessuno maggiore, giurò per se stesso,

For to Abraham God, having made promise, seeing He was able to swear by no greater, did swear by Himself,

14 d icendo «Certo, ti benedirò e ti moltiplicherò grandemente».

saying, `Blessing indeed I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee;'

15 E cosí, Abrahamo, avendo aspettato con pazienza, ottenne la promessa.

and so, having patiently endured, he did obtain the promise;

16 G li uomini infatti ben giurano per uno maggiore, e cosí per loro il giuramento è la garanzia che pone termine ad ogni contestazione.

for men indeed do swear by the greater, and an end of all controversy to them for confirmation the oath,

17 C osí Dio, volendo dimostrare agli eredi della promessa piú chiaramente l'immutabilità del suo consiglio, intervenne con un giuramento

in which God, more abundantly willing to shew to the heirs of the promise the immutability of his counsel, did interpose by an oath,

18 a ffinché per mezzo di due cose immutabili, nelle quali è impossibile che Dio abbia mentito, avessimo un grande incoraggiamento noi, che abbiamo cercato rifugio nell'afferrare saldamente la speranza che ci è stata messa davanti.

that through two immutable things, in which impossible for God to lie, a strong comfort we may have who did flee for refuge to lay hold on the hope set before,

19 Q uesta speranza che noi abbiamo è come un'ancora sicura e ferma della nostra vita, e che penetra fin nell'interno del velo.

which we have, as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and entering into that within the vail,

20 d ove Gesú è entrato come precursore per noi essendo divenuto sommo sacerdote in eterno secondo l'ordine di Melchisedek.

whither a forerunner for us did enter -- Jesus, after the order of Melchisedek chief priest having become -- to the age.
