1 A vvicinandosi per Davide il giorno della sua morte, egli ordinò a suo figlio Salomone, dicendo:

And draw near do the days of David to die, and he chargeth Solomon his son, saying,

2 « Io sto per andare dove vanno tutti gli abitanti della terra; perciò sii forte e comportati da uomo!

`I am going in the way of all the earth, and thou hast been strong, and become a man,

3 O sserva gli ordini dell'Eterno, il tuo DIO, camminando nelle sue vie e mettendo in pratica i suoi statuti, i suoi comandamenti, i suoi decreti e i suoi precetti, come sta scritto nella legge di Mosè, affinché tu riesca in tutto ciò che farai e dovunque ti volga,

and kept the charge of Jehovah thy God, to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commands, and His judgments, and His testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, so that thou dost wisely all that thou dost, and whithersoever thou turnest,

4 e affinché l'Eterno adempia la promessa che mi ha fatto quando disse: Se i tuoi figli faranno attenzione alla loro condotta per camminare davanti a me in verità con tutto il loro cuore e con tutta la loro anima, non ti mancherà mai qualcuno sul trono d'Israele"

so that Jehovah doth establish His word which He spake unto me, saying, If thy sons observe their way to walk before Me in truth, with all their heart, and with all their soul; saying, There is not cut off a man of thine from the throne of Israel.

5 A nche tu sai ciò che ha fatto a me Joab, figlio di Tseruiah, e ciò che ha fatto ai due capi degli eserciti d'Israele, ad Abner, figlio di Ner, e ad Amasa, figlio di Jether, che egli uccise; in tempo di pace ha versato sangue di guerra e ha macchiato di sangue di guerra la cintura che aveva ai fianchi e i sandali che portava ai piedi.

`And also, thou hast known that which he did to me -- Joab son of Zeruiah -- that which he did to two heads of the hosts of Israel, to Abner son of Ner, and to Amasa son of Jether -- that he slayeth them, and maketh the blood of war in peace, and putteth the blood of war in his girdle, that on his loins, and in his sandals that on his feet;

6 A gisci dunque secondo la tua sapienza e non permettere che la sua canizie scenda in pace nello Sceol

and thou hast done according to thy wisdom, and dost not let his old age go down in peace to Sheol.

7 M a usa bontà con i figli di Barzillai il Galaadita e siano tra coloro che mangiano alla tua mensa, perché con uguale bontà essi vennero da me quando io fuggivo di fronte ad Absalom tuo fratello.

`And to the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite thou dost do kindness, and they have been among those eating at thy table, for so they drew near unto me in my fleeing from the face of Absalom thy brother.

8 E cco, presso di te c'è pure Scimei, figlio di Ghera, il Beniaminita, di Bahurim. Egli proferí un'orribile maledizione il giorno che andavo a Mahanaim, ma poi scese ad incontrarmi al Giordano e io gli giurai per l'Eterno: "Non ti farò morire di spada".

`And lo, with thee Shimei son of Gera, the Benjamite of Bahurim, and he reviled me -- a grievous reviling -- in the day of my going to Mahanaim; and he hath come down to meet me at the Jordan, and I swear to him by Jehovah, saying, I do not put thee to death by the sword;

9 O ra perciò non lasciarlo impunito perché sei un uomo saggio e sai ciò che devi fare. Fa' scendere la sua canizie nello Sceol tinta di sangue».

and now, acquit him not, for a wise man thou, and thou hast known that which thou dost to him, and hast brought down his old age with blood to Sheol.'

10 C osí Davide si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto nella città di Davide.

And David lieth down with his fathers, and is buried in the city of David,

11 I l tempo che Davide regnò sopra Israele fu di quarant'anni, regnò sette anni a Hebron e trentatrè anni a Gerusalemme.

and the days that David hath reigned over Israel forty years, in Hebron he hath reigned seven years, and in Jerusalem he hath reigned thirty and three years.

12 P oi Salomone si assise sul trono di Davide suo padre e il suo regno fu saldamente stabilito.

And Solomon hath sat on the throne of David his father, and his kingdom is established greatly,

13 O r Adonijah, figlio di Hagghith, venne da Bath-Sceba, madre di Salomone Questa gli disse: «Vieni con intenzioni pacifiche?». Egli rispose: «Sí, pacifiche».

and Adonijah son of Haggith cometh in unto Bath-Sheba, mother of Solomon, and she saith, `Is thy coming peace?' and he saith, `Peace.'

14 P oi aggiunse: «Ho qualcosa da dirti». Quella rispose: «Di' pure».

And he saith, `I have a word unto thee,' and she saith, `Speak.'

15 C osí egli disse: «Tu sai che il regno mi apparteneva e che tutto Israele si aspettava che io regnassi. Ma il regno mi stato tolto ed è passato a mio fratello, perché a lui lo ha dato l'Eterno.

And he saith, `Thou hast known that the kingdom was mine, and towards me set their faces had all Israel for reigning, and the kingdom is turned round about, and is my brother's, for from Jehovah it was his;

16 O ra ho una richiesta da farti; non rifiutarmela». Ella rispose: «Di' pure».

and now, one petition I am asking of thee -- turn not back my face;' and she saith unto him, `Speak.'

17 A llora egli disse: «Ti prego, di' al re Salomone, il quale non ti rifiuterà nulla che mi dia in moglie Abishag, la Shunamita».

And he saith, `Speak, I pray thee, to Solomon the king, for he doth not turn back thy face, and he doth give to me Abishag the Shunammite for a wife.'

18 B ath-Sceba rispose: «Bene! Parlerò al re in tuo favore».

And Bath-Sheba saith, `Good; I do speak for thee unto the king.'

19 B ath-Sceba si recò dunque dal re Salomone per parlargli in favore di Adonijah. Il re si alzò per andarle incontro, si inchinò davanti a lei, poi si pose a sedere sul suo trono e fece mettere un trono per la madre del re, ed ella si sedette alla sua destra.

And Bath-Sheba cometh in unto king Solomon to speak to him for Adonijah, and the king riseth to meet her, and boweth himself to her, and sitteth on his throne, and placeth a throne for the mother of the king, and she sitteth at his right hand.

20 E lla disse: «Ho una piccola richiesta da farti; non negarmela». Il re le rispose: «Fa' pure la richiesta, madre mia; io non te la negherò».

And she saith, `One small petition I ask of thee, turn not back my face;' and the king saith to her, `Ask, my mother, for I do not turn back thy face.'

21 A llora ella disse: «Si dia Abishag la Shunamita in moglie a tuo fratello Adonijah».

And she saith, `Let Abishag the Shunammite be given to Adonijah thy brother for a wife.'

22 I l re Salomone rispose a sua madre e disse: «Perché chiedi Abishag la Shunamita per Adonijah? Chiedi per lui anche il regno, perché è mio fratello maggiore; chiedilo per lui, per il sacerdote Abiathar e per Joab, figlio di Tseruiah!».

And king Solomon answereth and saith to his mother, `And why art thou asking Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? also ask for him the kingdom -- for he mine elder brother -- even for him, and for Abiathar the priest, and for Joab son of Zeruiah.'

23 A llora il re Salomone giurò per l'Eterno, dicendo: «DIO mi faccia questo e anche peggio, se Adonijah non ha proferito questa parola a costo della sua vita!

And king Solomon sweareth by Jehovah, saying, `Thus doth God to me, and thus He doth add -- surely against his soul hath Adonijah spoken this word;

24 O ra perciò, com'è vero che vive l'Eterno, che mi ha stabilito, mi ha fatto sedere sul trono di Davide mio padre e mi ha fondato una casa come aveva promesso, oggi Adonijah sarà messo a morte!».

and now, Jehovah liveth, who hath established me, and causeth me to sit on the throne of David my father, and who hath made for me an house as He spake -- surely to-day is Adonijah put to death.'

25 C osí il re Salomone mandò Benaiah, figlio di Jehoiada, che piombò addosso a Adonijah e questi morí.

And king Solomon sendeth by the hand of Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and he falleth upon him, and he dieth.

26 P oi il re disse al sacerdote Abiathar: «Vattene ad Anathoth nei tuoi campi, perché tu meriti la morte, ma non ti farò morire oggi, perché hai portato l'arca del Signore, l'Eterno, davanti a mio padre Davide, e perché hai partecipato a tutte le sofferenze di mio padre».

And to Abiathar the priest said the king, `To Anathoth go, unto thy fields; for a man of death thou, but in this day I do not put thee to death, because thou hast borne the ark of the Lord Jehovah before David my father, and because thou wast afflicted in all that my father was afflicted in.'

27 C osí Salomone allontanò Abiathar dall'ufficio di sacerdote dell'Eterno, perché si adempisse la parola che l'Eterno aveva pronunziato riguardo alla casa di Eli a Sciloh.

And Solomon casteth out Abiathar from being priest to Jehovah, to fulfil the word of Jehovah which He spake concerning the house of Eli in Shiloh.

28 I ntanto la notizia giunse a Joab, perché Joab aveva seguito Adonijah, ma non aveva seguito Absalom. Perciò egli si rifugiò nel tabernacolo dell'Eterno e si afferrò ai corni dell'altare.

And the report hath come unto Joab -- for Joab hath turned aside after Adonijah, though after Absalom he did not turn aside -- and Joab fleeth unto the tent of Jehovah, and layeth hold on the horns of the altar.

29 F u quindi riferito al re Salomone: «Joab si è rifugiato nel tabernacolo dell'Eterno ed è vicino all'altare». Allora Salomone mandò Benaiah, figlio di Jehoiada, dicendogli: «Va

And it is declared to king Solomon that Joab hath fled unto the tent of Jehovah, and lo, near the altar; and Solomon sendeth Benaiah son of Jehoiada, saying, `Go, fall upon him.'

30 C osí Benaiah entrò nel tabernacolo dell'Eterno e disse a Joab: «Cosí dice il re: "Vieni fuori!"». Quegli rispose: «No, voglio morire qui!». Benaiah riferí la cosa al re, dicendo: «Cosí ha parlato Joab e cosí mi ha risposto».

And Benaiah cometh in unto the tent of Jehovah, and saith unto him, `Thus said the king, Come out;' and he saith, `Nay, but here I die.' And Benaiah bringeth back the king word, saying, `Thus spake Joab, yea, thus he answered me.'

31 A llora il re gli disse: «Fa' com'egli ha detto; colpiscilo e seppelliscilo; cosí allontanerai da me e dalla casa di mio padre il sangue che Joab versò senza motivo.

And the king saith to him, `Do as he hath spoken, and fall upon him, and thou hast buried him, and turned aside the causeless blood which Joab shed, from off me, and from off the house of my father;

32 C osí l'Eterno farà ricadere sul suo capo il sangue che ha versato, quando colpí due uomini piú giusti e migliori di lui e li uccise con la spada, senza che mio padre Davide neppure lo sapesse: Abner, figlio di Ner, capitano dell'esercito d'Israele, e Amasa, figlio di Jether, capitano dell'esercito di Giuda.

and Jehovah hath turned back his blood on his own head, who hath fallen on two men more righteous and better than he, and slayeth them with the sword, -- and my father David knew not -- Abner son of Ner, head of the host of Israel, and Amasa son of Jether, head of the host of Judah;

33 I l loro sangue ricadrà sul capo di Joab e sul capo della sua discendenza per sempre, ma vi sarà pace per sempre da parte dell'Eterno per Davide, per la sua discendenza, per la sua casa e per il suo trono».

yea, turned back hath their blood on the head of Joab, and on the head of his seed to the age; and for David, and for his seed, and for his house, and for his throne, there is peace unto the age, from Jehovah.'

34 A llora Benaiah, figlio di Jehoiada, salí, lo colpí e lo mise a morte; e Joab fu sepolto in casa sua, nel deserto.

And Benaiah son of Jehoiada goeth up and falleth upon him, and putteth him to death, and he is buried in his own house in the wilderness,

35 A l suo posto il re fece capo dell'esercito Benaiah, figlio di Jehoiada, e mise il sacerdote Tsadok al posto di Abiathar.

and the king putteth Benaiah son of Jehoiada in his stead over the host, and Zadok the priest hath the king put in the stead of Abiathar.

36 P oi il re mandò a chiamare Scimei e gli disse: «Costruisciti una casa in Gerusalemme e là abiterai, e non ne uscirai piú per andare qua o là.

And the king sendeth and calleth for Shimei, and saith to him, `Build for thee a house in Jerusalem, and thou hast dwelt there, and dost not go out thence any where;

37 I l giorno infatti che uscirai e passerai il torrente Kidron, sappi per certo che morirai; il tuo sangue ricadrà sul tuo capo».

and it hath been, in the day of thy going out, and thou hast passed over the brook Kidron, thou dost certainly know that thou dost surely die -- thy blood is on thy head.'

38 S cimei rispose al re: «Sta bene; il tuo servo farà come il re mio signore ha detto». Così Scimei dimorò in Gerusalemme per molto tempo.

And Shimei saith to the king, `The word good; as my lord the king hath spoken so doth thy servant do;' and Shimei dwelleth in Jerusalem many days.

39 M a, dopo tre anni, avvenne che due servi di Scimei fuggirono presso Akish, figlio di Maakah, re di Gath. Perciò riferirono la cosa a Scimei e gli dissero: «Ecco i tuoi servi sono a Gath».

And it cometh to pass, at the end of three years, that flee do two of the servants of Shimei unto Achish son of Maachah, king of Gath, and they declare to Shimei, saying, `Lo, thy servants in Gath;'

40 A llora Scimei si levò, sellò il suo asino e andò a Gath da Akish in cerca dei suoi servi; Scimei andò e ricondusse i suoi servi da Gath.

and Shimei riseth, and saddleth his ass, and goeth to Gath, unto Achish, to seek his servants, and Shimei goeth and bringeth his servants from Gath.

41 A Salomone fu riferito che Scimei era andato da Gerusalemme a Gath ed era tornato.

And it is declared to Solomon that Shimei hath gone from Jerusalem to Gath, and doth return,

42 I l re allora mandò a chiamare Scimei e gli disse: «Non ti avevo fatto giurare per l'Eterno e non ti avevo solennemente avvertito dicendoti: "Sappi per certo che il giorno in cui uscirai per andare qua o là, morirai"? E tu mi avevi risposto: "La parola che ho udita mi sta bene".

and the king sendeth and calleth for Shimei, and saith unto him, `Have I not caused thee to swear by Jehovah -- and I testify against thee, saying, In the day of thy going out, and thou hast gone anywhere, thou dost certainly know that thou dost surely die; and thou sayest unto me, The word I have heard good?

43 P erché dunque non hai osservato il giuramento dell'Eterno e il comando che ti avevo impartito?».

and wherefore hast thou not kept the oath of Jehovah, and the charge that I charged upon thee?'

44 I l re disse inoltre a Scimei: «Tu conosci tutto il male che facesti a Davide mio padre e il tuo cuore ne è consapevole; perciò l'Eterno farà ricadere sul tuo capo la tua malvagità,

And the king saith unto Shimei, `Thou hast known all the evil that thy heart hath known, which thou didest to David my father, and Jehovah hath turned back thine evil on thy head,

45 m a il re Salomone sarà benedetto e il trono di Davide sarà reso stabile davanti all'Eterno per sempre».

and king Solomon blessed, and the throne of David is established before Jehovah unto the age.'

46 Q uindi il re diede ordine a Benaiah, figlio di Jehoiada, che uscì e colpí Scimei; e questi morí. Cosí rimase saldo il regno nelle mani di Salomone.

And the king chargeth Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and he goeth out and falleth on him, and he dieth, and the kingdom is established in the hand of Solomon.
