By David. Do not fret because of evil doers, Be not envious against doers of iniquity,

2 p erché saranno presto falciati come il fieno e appassiranno come l'erba verde.

For as grass speedily they are cut off, And as the greenness of the tender grass do fade.

3 C onfida nell'Eterno e fa' il bene, abita il paese e coltiva la fedeltà.

Trust in Jehovah, and do good, Dwell the land, and enjoy faithfulness,

4 P rendi il tuo diletto nell'Eterno ed egli ti darà i desideri del tuo cuore.

And delight thyself on Jehovah, And He giveth to thee the petitions of thy heart.

5 R imetti la tua sorte nell'Eterno, confida in lui, ed egli opererà.

Roll on Jehovah thy way, And trust upon Him, and He worketh,

6 E gli farà risplendere la tua giustizia come la luce e la tua rettitudine come il mezzodí.

And hath brought out as light thy righteousness, And thy judgment as noon-day.

7 S ta' in silenzio davanti all'Eterno e aspettalo; non affliggerti per colui che prospera nelle sue imprese, per l'uomo che segue i suoi malvagi disegni.

Be silent for Jehovah, and stay thyself for Him, Do not fret because of him Who is making prosperous his way, Because of a man doing wicked devices.

8 C essa dall'ira e lascia lo sdegno; non affliggerti; ciò porterebbe anche te a far del male.

Desist from anger, and forsake fury, Fret not thyself only to do evil.

9 P oiché i malvagi saranno sterminati, ma coloro che sperano nell'Eterno possederanno la terra.

For evil doers are cut off, As to those waiting on Jehovah, they possess the land.

10 A ncora un po' e l'empio non sarà piú; sí, tu cercherai attentamente il suo posto, e non ci sarà piú.

And yet a little, and the wicked is not, And thou hast considered his place, and it is not.

11 M a i mansueti possederanno la terra e godranno di una grande pace.

And the humble do possess the land, And they have delighted themselves In the abundance of peace.

12 L 'empio congiura contro il giusto e digrigna i denti contro di lui.

The wicked is devising against the righteous, And gnashing against him his teeth.

13 I l Signore ride di lui, perché vede arrivare il suo giorno.

The Lord doth laugh at him, For He hath seen that his day cometh.

14 G li empi hanno tratto la spada e hanno teso il loro arco per abbattere il misero e il bisognoso, per uccidere quelli che camminano rettamente.

A sword have the wicked opened, And they have trodden their bow, To cause to fall the poor and needy, To slaughter the upright of the way.

15 L a loro spada penetrerà nel loro cuore e i loro archi saranno spezzati.

Their sword doth enter into their own heart, And their bows are shivered.

16 V ale piú il poco del giusto che l'abbondanza di molti empi.

Better the little of the righteous, Than the store of many wicked.

17 P oiché le braccia degli empi saranno spezzate, ma l'Eterno sostiene i giusti.

For the arms of the wicked are shivered, And Jehovah is sustaining the righteous.

18 L 'Eterno conosce i giorni degli uomini integri, e la loro eredità durerà in eterno.

Jehovah knoweth the days of the perfect, And their inheritance is -- to the age.

19 E ssi non saranno confusi nel tempo dell'avversità e nei giorni di carestia saranno saziati.

They are not ashamed in a time of evil, And in days of famine they are satisfied.

20 M a gli empi periranno, e i nemici dell'Eterno saranno consumati e andranno in fumo come grasso di agnelli.

But the wicked perish, and the enemies of Jehovah, As the preciousness of lambs, Have been consumed, In smoke they have been consumed.

21 L 'empio prende in prestito e non restituisce, ma il giusto ha pietà e dona.

The wicked is borrowing and repayeth not, And the righteous is gracious and giving.

22 P oiché i benedetti dal Signore erediteranno la terra, ma i maledetti da lui saranno sterminati.

For His blessed ones do possess the land, And His reviled ones are cut off.

23 I passi dell'uomo sono guidati dall'Eterno, quando egli gradisce le sue vie.

From Jehovah the steps of a man, They have been prepared, And his way he desireth.

24 S e cade, non è però atterrato, perché l'Eterno lo sostiene per la mano.

When he falleth, he is not cast down, For Jehovah is sustaining his hand.

25 s ono stato fanciullo ed ora sono divenuto vecchio, ma non ho mai visto il giusto abbandonato, né la sua progenie mendicare il pane.

Young I have been, I have also become old, And I have not seen the righteous forsaken, And his seed seeking bread.

26 E gli ha pietà e presta sempre, e la sua progenie è in benedizione.

All the day he is gracious and lending, And his seed for a blessing.

27 A llontanati dal male e fa' il bene e avrai una dimora in eterno.

Turn aside from evil, and do good, and dwell to the age.

28 P oiché l'Eterno ama la giustizia e non abbandonerà i suoi santi; essi saranno salvaguardati in eterno, ma la progenie degli empi sarà sterminata.

For Jehovah is loving judgment, And He doth not forsake His saintly ones, To the age they have been kept, And the seed of the wicked is cut off.

29 I giusti erediteranno la terra e vi abiteranno per sempre.

The righteous possess the land, And they dwell for ever on it.

30 L a bocca del giusto proferisce sapienza e la sua lingua parla di giustizia.

The mouth of the righteous uttereth wisdom, And his tongue speaketh judgment.

31 L a Legge del suo DIO è nel suo cuore; i suoi passi non vacilleranno.

The law of his God his heart, His steps do not slide.

32 L 'empio spia il giusto e cerca di ucciderlo.

The wicked is watching for the righteous, And is seeking to put him to death.

33 L 'Eterno non lo lascerà nelle sue mani e non permetterà che sia condannato, quando sarà giudicato.

Jehovah doth not leave him in his hand, Nor condemn him in his being judged.

34 S pera fermamente nell'Eterno e segui la sua via, ed egli t'innalzerà affinché tu erediti la terra, quando gli empi saranno sterminati, tu lo vedrai.

Look unto Jehovah, and keep His way, And He doth exalt thee to possess the land, In the wicked being cut off -- thou seest!

35 H o visto l'uomo potente e violento prosperare come un albero verdeggiante sul suo suolo natìo,

I have seen the wicked terrible, And spreading as a green native plant,

36 m a poi è scomparso, ed ecco, non è piú; ho cercato, ma non si è piú trovato.

And he passeth away, and lo, he is not, And I seek him, and he is not found!

37 S ta' attento all'uomo integro e osserva l'uomo retto, perché il futuro di tale uomo sarà pace.

Observe the perfect, and see the upright, For the latter end of each peace.

38 M a i trasgressori saranno tutti quanti distrutti; alla fine gli empi saranno stroncati.

And transgressors were destroyed together, The latter end of the wicked was cut off.

39 M a la salvezza, dei giusti viene dall'Eterno; egli è la loro roccaforte nel tempo della sventura.

And the salvation of the righteous from Jehovah, Their strong place in a time of adversity.

40 E l'Eterno li aiuta e li libera, li libera dagli empi e li salva, perché si sono rifugiati in lui.

And Jehovah doth help them and deliver them, He delivereth them from the wicked, And saveth them, Because they trusted in Him!
