1 P oi egli cominciò a parlar loro in parabole: «Un uomo piantò una vigna, vi fece attorno una siepe, vi scavò un luogo dove pigiare l'uva, vi costruí una torre, e l'affidò a dei vignaioli, poi se ne andò lontano.

And he began to speak to them in similes: `A man planted a vineyard, and put a hedge around, and digged an under-winevat, and built a tower, and gave it out to husbandmen, and went abroad;

2 N ella stagione della raccolta inviò a quei vignaioli un servo per ricevere da loro la sua parte del frutto della vigna.

and he sent unto the husbandmen at the due time a servant, that from the husbandmen he may receive from the fruit of the vineyard,

3 M a essi lo presero, lo batterono e lo rimandarono a mani vuote.

and they, having taken him, did severely beat, and did send him away empty.

4 E gli mandò loro di nuovo un altro servo; ma essi, dopo avergli tirate delle pietre, lo ferirono alla testa e lo rimandarono vilipeso.

`And again he sent unto them another servant, and at that one having cast stones, they wounded in the head, and sent away -- dishonoured.

5 N e inviò ancora un altro e questi lo uccisero. Poi ne mandò molti altri, e di questi alcuni furono percossi, altri uccisi.

`And again he sent another, and that one they killed; and many others, some beating, and some killing.

6 G li restava ancora uno da mandare: il suo amato figlio. Per ultimo mandò loro anche lui, dicendo: "avranno almeno rispetto per mio figlio"

`Having yet therefore one son -- his beloved -- he sent also him unto them last, saying -- They will reverence my son;

7 M a quei vignaioli dissero fra loro: "Costui è l'erede, venite, uccidiamolo e l'eredità sarà nostra"

and those husbandmen said among themselves -- This is the heir, come, we may kill him, and ours shall be the inheritance;

8 C osí lo presero, lo uccisero e lo gettarono fuori dalla vigna.

and having taken him, they did kill, and cast forth without the vineyard.

9 C he farà dunque il padrone della vigna? Egli verrà e sterminerà quei vignaioli e darà la vigna ad altri.

`What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do? he will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard to others.

10 N on avete neppure letto questa scrittura: "La pietra che gli edificatori hanno scartata è divenuta la testata d'angolo.

And this Writing did ye not read: A stone that the builders rejected, it did become the head of a corner:

11 C iò è stato fatto dal Signore, ed è cosa meravigliosa agli occhi nostri"?».

from the Lord was this, and it is wonderful in our eyes.'

12 A llora essi cercavano di prenderlo, perché avevano capito che egli aveva detto quella parabola contro di loro; ma ebbero paura della folla; e, lasciatolo, se ne andarono.

And they were seeking to lay hold on him, and they feared the multitude, for they knew that against them he spake the simile, and having left him, they went away;

13 G li mandarono poi alcuni farisei ed erodiani per coglierlo in fallo nelle parole.

and they send unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, that they may ensnare him in discourse,

14 E d essi, giunti, gli dissero: «Maestro, noi sappiamo che tu sei verace e non hai riguardi per nessuno, perché non badi all'apparenza delle persone, ma insegni la via di Dio secondo verità. è lecito o no pagare il tributo a Cesare? Dobbiamo pagarlo o no?».

and they having come, say to him, `Teacher, we have known that thou art true, and thou art not caring for any one, for thou dost not look to the face of men, but in truth the way of God dost teach; is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar or not? may we give, or may we not give?'

15 M a egli, conoscendo la loro ipocrisia, disse loro: «Perché mi tentate? Portatemi un denaro perché lo veda».

And he, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them, `Why me do ye tempt? bring me a denary, that I may see;'

16 E ssi glielo portarono. Ed egli disse loro: «Di chi è questa immagine e questa iscrizione?». Essi gli dissero: «Di Cesare».

and they brought, and he saith to them, `Whose this image, and the inscription?' and they said to him, `Caesar's;'

17 A llora Gesú rispose e disse loro: «Rendete a Cesare ciò che è di Cesare, e a Dio ciò che è di Dio». Ed essi si meravigliarono di lui.

and Jesus answering said to them, `Give back the things of Caesar to Caesar, and the things of God to God;' and they did wonder at him.

18 P oi si presentarono a lui dei sadducei, i quali dicono che non vi è risurrezione, e lo interrogarono, dicendo:

And the Sadducees come unto him, who say there is not a rising again, and they questioned him, saying,

19 « Maestro, Mosè ci lasciò scritto che se muore il fratello di uno e lascia la moglie senza figli, il fratello di lui deve sposare la vedova per suscitare una discendenza a suo fratello.

`Teacher, Moses wrote to us, that if any one's brother may die, and may leave a wife, and may leave no children, that his brother may take his wife, and raise up seed to his brother.

20 O ra vi erano sette fratelli; il primo prese moglie e morí senza lasciare figli.

`There were then seven brothers, and the first took a wife, and dying, he left no seed;

21 Q uindi la prese il secondo, ma anche questi morí senza lasciare figli; cosí pure il terzo.

and the second took her, and died, neither left he seed, and the third in like manner,

22 T utti e sette l'ebbero per moglie, e morirono senza lasciare figli. Infine, dopo tutti, morí anche la donna.

and the seven took her, and left no seed, last of all died also the woman;

23 N ella risurrezione dunque, quando risusciteranno, di chi di loro sarà ella moglie? Poiché tutti e sette l'hanno avuta per moglie».

in the rising again, then, whenever they may rise, of which of them shall she be wife -- for the seven had her as wife?'

24 M a Gesú, rispondendo, disse loro: «Non è proprio per questo che siete in errore, perché non conoscete né le Scritture né la potenza di Dio?

And Jesus answering said to them, `Do ye not because of this go astray, not knowing the Writings, nor the power of God?

25 I nfatti, quando gli uomini risusciteranno dai morti, né si ammoglieranno nè si mariteranno, ma saranno come gli angeli in cielo.

for when they may rise out of the dead, they neither marry nor are they given in marriage, but are as messengers who are in the heavens.

26 R iguardo poi alla risurrezione dei morti, non avete letto nel libro di Mosé come Dio gli parlò dal roveto, dicendo io sono il Dio di Abrahamo, il Dio di Isacco e il Dio di Giacobbe

`And concerning the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the Book of Moses (at The Bush), how God spake to him, saying, I the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob;

27 E gli non è Dio dei morti, ma Dio dei viventi. Voi, dunque, vi sbagliate grandemente».

he is not the God of dead men, but a God of living men; ye then go greatly astray.'

28 A llora uno degli scribi che aveva udita la loro discussione, riconoscendo che egli aveva loro risposto bene, si accostò e gli domandò: «Qual è il primo comandamento di tutti?».

And one of the scribes having come near, having heard them disputing, knowing that he answered them well, questioned him, `Which is the first command of all?'

29 E Gesú gli rispose: «Il primo comandamento di tutti è: "ascolta, Israele: Il Signore Dio nostro è l'unico Signore",

and Jesus answered him -- `The first of all the commands, Hear, O Israel, the Lord is our God, the Lord is one;

30 e : "ama il Signore Dio tuo con tutto il tuo cuore, con tutta la tua anima, con tutta la tua mente e con tutta la tua forza". Questo è il primo comandamento.

and thou shalt love the Lord thy God out of all thy heart, and out of thy soul, and out of all thine understanding, and out of all thy strength -- this the first command;

31 E il secondo è simile a questo: "ama il tuo prossimo come te stesso". Non vi è alcun altro comandamento maggiore di questi».

and the second like, this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself; -- greater than these there is no other command.'

32 A llora lo scriba gli disse: «Bene, Maestro. Hai detto secondo verità che vi è un sol Dio e non ve n'è alcun altro all'infuori di lui;

And the scribe said to him, `Well, Teacher, in truth thou hast spoken that there is one God, and there is none other but He;

33 e che amarlo con tutto il cuore, con tutta la mente, con tutta l'anima e con tutta la forza, e amare il prossimo come se stessi vale piú di tutti gli olocausti e i sacrifici»,

and to love Him out of all the heart, and out of all the understanding, and out of all the soul, and out of all the strength, and to love one's neighbor as one's self, is more than all the whole burnt-offerings and the sacrifices.'

34 E Gesú, vedendo che aveva risposto saggiamente, gli disse: «Tu non sei lontano dal regno di Dio». E nessuno ardiva piú interrogarlo.

And Jesus, having seen him that he answered with understanding, said to him, `Thou art not far from the reign of God;' and no one any more durst question him.

35 E Gesú, insegnando nel tempio, prese a dire: «Come mai gli scribi dicono che il Cristo è Figlio di Davide?

And Jesus answering said, teaching in the temple, `How say the scribes that the Christ is son of David?

36 P oiché Davide stesso, per lo Spirito Santo, disse: "il Signore ha detto al mio Signore: Siedi alla mia destra, finché io abbia fatto dei tuoi nemici lo sgabello dei tuoi piedi".

for David himself said in the Holy Spirit, The Lord said to my lord, Sit thou on My right hand, till I place thine enemies -- thy footstool;

37 D avide stesso dunque lo chiama Signore; come può dunque egli essere suo figlio?». E la maggior parte della folla lo ascoltava con piacere.

therefore David himself saith of him Lord, and whence is he his son?' And the great multitude were hearing him gladly,

38 E d egli diceva loro nel suo insegnamento: «Guardatevi dagli scribi che amano passeggiare in lunghe vesti ed essere salutati nelle piazze,

and he was saying to them in his teaching, `Beware of the scribes, who will in long robes to walk, and love salutations in the market-places,

39 e avere i primi seggi nelle sinagoghe, e i primi posti nei conviti,

and first seats in the synagogues, and first couches in suppers,

40 c he divorano le case delle vedove e per mettersi in mostra, fanno lunghe preghiere; essi riceveranno una piú dura condanna».

who are devouring the widows' houses, and for a pretense are making long prayers; these shall receive more abundant judgment.'

41 E Gesú, postosi a sedere di fronte alla cassa del tesoro, osservava come la gente vi gettava il denaro; e tanti ricchi ne gettavano molto.

And Jesus having sat down over-against the treasury, was beholding how the multitude do put brass into the treasury, and many rich were putting in much,

42 V enuta una povera vedova, vi gettò due spiccioli, cioè un quadrante.

and having come, a poor widow did put in two mites, which are a farthing.

43 E Gesú, chiamati a sé i suoi discepoli, disse loro: «In verità vi dico che questa povera vedova ha gettato nel tesoro piú di tutti gli altri.

And having called near his disciples, he saith to them, `Verily I say to you, that this poor widow hath put in more than all those putting into the treasury;

44 P oiché tutti vi hanno gettato del loro superfluo, mentre ella, nella sua povertà, vi ha gettato tutto quello che aveva per vivere».

for all, out of their abundance, put in, but she, out of her want, all that she had put in -- all her living.'
