1 C on l'inizio del nuovo anno, nel tempo in cui i re vanno a combattere, Joab condusse fuori un poderoso esercito e devastò il paese dei figli di Ammon; quindi andò ad assediare Rabbah, mentre Davide rimase a Gerusalemme; Joab battè Rabbah e la distrusse.

And it cometh to pass, at the time of the turn of the year -- at the time of the going out of the messengers -- that Joab leadeth out the force of the host, and destroyeth the land of the sons of Ammon, and cometh in and beseigeth Rabbah -- David is abiding in Jerusalem -- and Joab smiteth Rabbah, and breaketh it down.

2 A llora Davide tolse dalla testa del loro re la corona e trovò che pesava un talento, d'oro, e in essa c'erano delle pietre preziose; essa fu quindi posta sulla testa di Davide. Inoltre egli portò via dalla città un grandissimo bottino.

And David taketh the crown of their king from off his head, and findeth it weight a talent of gold, and in it a precious stone, and it is on the head of David: and spoil of the city he hath brought out very much,

3 F ece poi uscire gli abitanti che erano nella città e li mise al lavoro con seghe, erpici di ferro e scuri. Cosí fece Davide a tutte le città dei figli di Ammon. Poi Davide tornò a Gerusalemme con tutto il popolo.

and the people who in it he hath brought out, and setteth to the saw, and to cutting instruments of iron, and to axes; and thus doth David to all cities of the sons of Ammon, and David turneth back, and all the people, to Jerusalem.

4 D opo queste cose ci fu a Ghezer una battaglia con i Filistei; allora Sibbekai di Hushah uccise Sippai, uno dei discendenti dei giganti; e i Filistei furono umiliati.

And it cometh to pass, after this, that there remaineth war in Gezer with the Philistines, then hath Sibbechai the Hushathite smitten Sippai, of the children of the giant, and they are humbled.

5 C i fu un'altra battaglia con i Filistei Elhanan, figlio di Jair, uccise Lahmi, fratello di Goliath di Gath, l'asta della cui lancia era come un subbio da tessitore.

And there is again war with the Philistines, and Elhanan son of Jair smiteth Lahmi, brother of Goliath the Gittite, the wood of whose spear like a beam of weavers.

6 C i fu ancora una battaglia a Gath, dove vi era un uomo di grande statura, che aveva sei dita per ogni mano e sei dita per ogni piede, in tutto ventiquattro dita; anch'egli era un discendente dei giganti.

And there is again war in Gath, and there is a man of measure, and his fingers and his toes six and six, twenty and four, and also, he hath been born to the giant.

7 E gli insultò Israele e Gionathan figlio di Scimeah, fratello di Davide, lo uccise.

And he reproacheth Israel, and smite him doth Jonathan son of Shimea, brother of David.

8 Q uesti erano nati dai giganti a Gath. Essi perirono per mano di Davide e per mano dei suoi servi.

These were born to the giant in Gath, and they fall by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
