1 D opo queste cose, vidi scendere dal cielo un altro angelo che aveva una grande potestà; e la terra fu illuminata dalla sua gloria.

And after these things I saw another messenger coming down out of the heaven, having great authority, and the earth was lightened from his glory,

2 E gli gridò con forza e a gran voce, dicendo: «E' caduta, è caduta Babilonia la grande, ed è diventata una dimora di demoni, un covo di ogni spirito immondo, un covo di ogni uccello immondo ed abominevole.

and he did cry in might -- a great voice, saying, `Fall, fall did Babylon the great, and she became a habitation of demons, and a hold of every unclean spirit, and a hold of every unclean and hateful bird,

3 P erché tutte le nazioni hanno bevuto del vino dell'ardore della sua fornicazione, i re della terra hanno fornicato con lei e i mercanti della terra si sono arricchiti a motivo del suo sfrenato lusso».

because of the wine of the wrath of her whoredom have all the nations drunk, and the kings of the earth with her did commit whoredom, and merchants of the earth from the power of her revel were made rich.

4 P oi udii un'altra voce dal cielo che diceva: «Uscite da essa, o popolo mio, affinché non abbiate parte ai suoi peccati e non vi venga addosso alcuna delle sue piaghe,

And I heard another voice out of the heaven, saying, `Come forth out of her, My people, that ye may not partake with her sins, and that ye may not receive of her plagues,

5 p erché i suoi peccati si sono accumulati e sono giunti fino al cielo, e Dio si è ricordato delle sue iniquità.

because her sins did follow -- unto the heaven, and God did remember her unrighteousness.

6 R endete ciò che essa ha fatto a voi, anzi rendetele il doppio secondo le sue opere; nella coppa in cui ha versato, versatele il doppio.

Render to her as also she did render to you, and double to her doubles according to her works; in the cup that she did mingle mingle to her double.

7 N ella misura che essa ha glorificato se stessa e ha vissuto nelle delizie, nella stessa misura datele tormento e cordoglio, poiché essa dice in cuor suo: "Io seggo come regina, non sono vedova e non vedrò mai cordoglio".

`As much as she did glorify herself and did revel, so much torment and sorrow give to her, because in her heart she saith, I sit a queen, and a widow I am not, and sorrow I shall not see;

8 P er questo, in uno stesso giorno, verranno le sue piaghe: morte, cordoglio e fame, e sarà interamente consumata col fuoco, poiché potente è il Signore Dio che la giudicherà».

because of this, in one day, shall come her plagues, death, and sorrow, and famine; and in fire she shall be utterly burned, because strong the Lord God who is judging her;

9 E i re della terra, che hanno fornicato e sono vissuti nelle delizie con lei, la piangeranno e faranno lamento per lei, quando vedranno il fumo del suo incendio;

and weep over her, and smite themselves for her, shall the kings of the earth, who with her did commit whoredom and did revel, when they may see the smoke of her burning,

10 e ssi se ne staranno lontani per timore del suo tormento e diranno: «Ahi! Ahi! Babilonia, la grande città, la potente città, perché il tuo giudizio è venuto in un momento!».

from afar having stood because of the fear of her torment, saying, Wo, wo, the great city! Babylon, the strong city! because in one hour did come thy judgment.

11 A nche i mercanti della terra piangeranno e si lamenteranno per lei, perché nessuno compera piú le loro merci:

`And the merchants of the earth shall weep and sorrow over her, because their lading no one doth buy any more;

12 m erci d'oro e d'argento, di pietre preziose e di perle, di bisso e di porpora, di seta e di scarlatto, e ogni sorta di legno profumato, ogni specie di oggetti d'avorio e di legno preziosissimo, di bronzo, di ferro e di marmo,

lading of gold, and silver, and precious stone, and pearl, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyne wood, and every vessel of ivory, and every vessel of most precious wood, and brass, and iron, and marble,

13 e cinnamomo, profumi, olii odorosi, incenso, vino, olio, fior di farina, frumento, bestiame, pecore, cavalli, carri, corpi e anime umane.

and cinnamon, and odours, and ointment, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and cattle, and sheep, and of horses, and of chariots, and of bodies and souls of men.

14 I frutti che la tua anima tanto desiderava si sono allontanati da te, e tutte le cose ricche e splendide si sono allontanate da te e tu non le troverai mai piú.

`And the fruits of the desire of thy soul did go away from thee, and all things -- the dainty and the bright -- did go away from thee, and no more at all mayest thou find them.

15 I mercanti di queste cose, che erano stati arricchiti da lei, se ne staranno lontani per timore del suo tormento, e piangeranno e si lamenteranno

The merchants of these things, who were made rich by her, far off shall stand because of the fear of her torment, weeping, and sorrowing,

16 d icendo: «Ahi! Ahi! La grande città che era vestita di bisso, di porpora e di scarlatto, e adorna d'oro e di pietre preziose e di perle. Una cosí grande ricchezza è stata distrutta in un momento!».

and saying, Wo, wo, the great city, that was arrayed with fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and gilded in gold, and precious stone, and pearls -- because in one hour so much riches were made waste!

17 T utti i capitani, tutti i passeggeri e i naviganti e tutti quanti commerciano per mare se ne staranno da lontano

`And every shipmaster, and all the company upon the ships, and sailors, and as many as work the sea, far off stood,

18 e , vedendo il fumo del suo incendio grideranno: «Quale città era simile alla grande città?».

and were crying, seeing the smoke of her burning, saying, What like to the great city?

19 E si getteranno della polvere sul capo e grideranno, piangendo e lamentandosi, dicendo: «Ahi! Ahi! La grande città in cui tutti coloro che avevano navi sul mare si erano arricchiti della sua magnificenza, perché è stata devastata in un momento!

and they did cast dust upon their heads, and were crying out, weeping and sorrowing, saying, Wo, wo, the great city! in which were made rich all having ships in the sea, out of her costliness -- for in one hour was she made waste.

20 R allegrati su di essa, o cielo, e voi santi apostoli e profeti perché Dio, giudicandola, vi ha fatto giustizia».

`Be glad over her, O heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets, because God did judge your judgment of her!'

21 P oi un angelo potente sollevò una pietra dalle dimensioni di una grossa macina e la gettò nel mare, dicendo: «Con lo stesso impeto sarà scagliata Babilonia la grande città, e non sarà piú ritrovata;

And one strong messenger did take up a stone as a great millstone, and did cast to the sea, saying, `Thus with violence shall Babylon be cast, the great city, and may not be found any more at all;

22 e non si udrà piú in te il suono degli arpisti, dei musicisti e dei suonatori di flauto e di tromba, non si troverà piú in te alcun esperto di qualsiasi arte, e non si udrà piú in te rumore di macina.

and voice of harpers, and musicians, and pipers, and trumpeters, may not be heard at all in thee any more; and any artizan of any art may not be found at all in thee any more; and noise of a millstone may not be heard at all in thee any more;

23 I n te non brillerà piú luce di lampada e non si udrà piú in te voce di sposo e di sposa, perché i tuoi mercanti erano i magnati della terra e perché tutte le genti sono state sedotte dalle tue malìe.

and light of a lamp may not shine at all in thee any more; and voice of bridegroom and of bride may not be heard at all in thee any more; because thy merchants were the great ones of the earth, because in thy sorcery were all the nations led astray,

24 E in essa è stato trovato il sangue dei profeti e dei santi e di tutti coloro che sono stati uccisi sulla terra».

and in her blood of prophets and of saints was found, and of all those who have been slain on the earth.'
