1 E in seguito avvenne che egli andava attorno per le città e i villaggi, predicando e annunziando la buona novella del regno di Dio; con lui vi erano i dodici,

And it came to pass thereafter, that he was going through every city and village, preaching and proclaiming good news of the reign of God, and the twelve with him,

2 e certe donne, che erano state guarite da spiriti maligni e da infermità: Maria, detta Maddalena, dalla quale erano usciti sette demoni,

and certain women, who were healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary who is called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone forth,

3 G iovanna, moglie di Cuza, amministratore di Erode, Susanna e molte altre, le quali lo sostenevano con i loro beni.

and Joanna wife of Chuza, steward of Herod, and Susanna, and many others, who were ministering to him from their substance.

4 O ra, mentre si radunava una grande folla ed accorreva a lui gente da ogni città, egli disse in parabola:

And a great multitude having gathered, and those who from city and city were coming unto him, he spake by a simile:

5 « Un seminatore uscí a seminare la sua semente; e mentre egli seminava una parte cadde lungo la via, fu calpestata e gli uccelli del cielo la mangiarono.

`The sower went forth to sow his seed, and in his sowing some indeed fell beside the way, and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the heaven did devour it.

6 U n'altra parte cadde sulla roccia e, appena germogliata, seccò per mancanza di umidità.

`And other fell upon the rock, and having sprung up, it did wither, through not having moisture.

7 U n'altra parte cadde fra le spine; e le spine, cresciute insieme, la soffocarono.

`And other fell amidst the thorns, and the thorns having sprung up with it, did choke it.

8 U na parte invece cadde in buona terra, germogliò e fruttò il cento per uno». Dette queste cose, esclamò: «Chi ha orecchi da udire, oda!».

`And other fell upon the good ground, and having sprung up, it made fruit an hundred fold.' These things saying, he was calling, `He having ears to hear -- let him hear.'

9 A llora i suoi discepoli gli domandarono che cosa significasse quella parabola.

And his disciples were questioning him, saying, `What may this simile be?'

10 E d egli disse: «A voi è dato di conoscere i misteri del regno di Dio; ma agli altri essi sono proposti in parabole, affinché vedendo non vedano e udendo non intendano.

And he said, `To you it hath been given to know the secrets of the reign of God, and to the rest in similes; that seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.

11 O r questo è il significato della parabola: La semente è la parola di Dio.

`And this is the simile: The seed is the word of God,

12 Q uelli lungo la strada sono coloro che odono la parola, ma poi viene il diavolo e porta via la parola dal loro cuore, affinché non credano e non siano salvati.

and those beside the way are those hearing, then cometh the Devil, and taketh up the word from their heart, lest having believed, they may be saved.

13 Q uelli sulla roccia sono coloro che, quando ascoltano, ricevono la parola con gioia; costoro però non hanno radice, credono per un certo tempo, ma al momento della prova, si tirano indietro.

`And those upon the rock: They who, when they may hear, with joy do receive the word, and these have no root, who for a time believe, and in time of temptation fall away.

14 E la parte che è caduta fra le spine sono coloro che hanno udito la parola; ma, strada facendo, sono soffocati dalle sollecitudini, dalle ricchezze e dai piaceri di questa vita, e non giungono a maturità.

`And that which fell to the thorns: These are they who have heard, and going forth, through anxieties, and riches, and pleasures of life, are choked, and bear not to completion.

15 M a la parte che è caduta in buona terra sono coloro che, dopo aver udita la parola, la ritengono in un cuore onesto e buono e portano frutto con perseveranza».

`And that in the good ground: These are they, who in an upright and good heart, having heard the word, do retain, and bear fruit in continuance.

16 « E nessuno, accesa una lampada, la copre con un vaso o la mette sotto il letto, ma la mette sul candeliere, affinché coloro che entrano vedano la luce.

`And no one having lighted a lamp doth cover it with a vessel, or under a couch doth put; but upon a lamp-stand he doth put, that those coming in may see the light,

17 P oiché non vi è nulla di nascosto che non sarà manifestato, né di segreto che non debba essere conosciuto e portato alla luce.

for nothing is secret, that shall not become manifest, nor hid, that shall not be known, and become manifest.

18 F ate dunque attenzione a come ascoltate, perché a chi ha sarà dato, ma a chi non ha sarà tolto anche quello che pensa di avere».

`See, therefore, how ye hear, for whoever may have, there shall be given to him, and whoever may not have, also what he seemeth to have, shall be taken from him.'

19 O r sua madre e i suoi fratelli vennero da lui, ma non potevano avvicinarlo a causa della folla.

And there came unto him his mother and brethren, and they were not able to get to him because of the multitude,

20 E da alcuni gli fu riferito: «Tua madre e i tuoi fratelli sono là fuori e ti vogliono vedere».

and it was told him, saying, `Thy mother and thy brethren do stand without, wishing to see thee;'

21 M a egli, rispondendo, disse loro: «Mia madre e i miei fratelli sono quelli che odono la parola di Dio e la mettono in pratica».

and he answering said unto them, `My mother and my brethren! they are those who the word of God are hearing, and doing.'

22 O ra uno di quei giorni avvenne che egli salí su una barca con i suoi discepoli e disse loro: «Passiamo all'altra riva del lago». Ed essi presero il largo.

And it came to pass, on one of the days, that he himself went into a boat with his disciples, and he said unto them, `We may go over to the other side of the lake;' and they set forth,

23 M entre navigavano, egli si addormentò; e un turbine di vento si abbattè sul lago, tanto che la barca si riempiva, ed erano in pericolo.

and as they are sailing he fell deeply asleep, and there came down a storm of wind to the lake, and they were filling, and were in peril.

24 A llora essi, accostatisi, lo svegliarono, dicendo: «Maestro, maestro, noi periamo!». Ed egli, destatosi, sgridò il vento e la furia dell'acqua; e questi si acquetarono e si fece bonaccia.

And having come near, they awoke him, saying, `Master, master, we perish;' and he, having arisen, rebuked the wind and the raging of the water, and they ceased, and there came a calm,

25 E Gesú disse ai suoi discepoli: «Dov'è la vostra fede?». Ed essi, impauriti, si meravigliavano e si dicevano l'un l'altro: «Chi è mai costui, che comanda anche al vento e all'acqua, e gli ubbidiscono?».

and he said to them, `Where is your faith?' and they being afraid did wonder, saying unto one another, `Who, then, is this, that even the winds he doth command, and the water, and they obey him?'

26 P oi navigarono verso la regione dei Gadareni che sta di fronte alla Galilea;

And they sailed down to the region of the Gadarenes, that is over-against Galilee,

27 e , quando scese a terra, gli venne incontro un uomo di quella città, il quale già da lungo tempo era posseduto da demoni, e non indossava vesti, e non abitava in alcuna casa, ma tra i sepolcri.

and he having gone forth upon the land, there met him a certain man, out of the city, who had demons for a long time, and with a garment was not clothed, and in a house was not abiding, but in the tombs,

28 Q uando vide Gesú, lanciò un grido, gli si gettò ai piedi e disse a gran voce: «Che vi è fra me e te, o Gesú, Figlio del Dio Altissimo? Ti prego, non tormentarmi!».

and having seen Jesus, and having cried out, he fell before him, and with a loud voice, said, `What -- to me and to thee, Jesus, Son of God Most High? I beseech thee, mayest thou not afflict me!'

29 G esú comandava infatti allo spirito immondo di uscire da quell'uomo, perché molte volte se ne era impossessato e, benché fosse stato legato con catene e con ceppi e fosse sorvegliato, egli spezzava i legami ed era spinto dal demone nei deserti.

For he commanded the unclean spirit to come forth from the man, for many times it had caught him, and he was being bound with chains and fetters -- guarded, and breaking asunder the bonds he was driven by the demons to the deserts.

30 E Gesú lo interrogò, dicendo: «Qual è il tuo nome?». Ed egli disse: «Legione». Perché molti demoni erano entrati in lui.

And Jesus questioned him, saying, `What is thy name?' and he said, `Legion,' (because many demons were entered into him,)

31 E d essi lo pregavano che non comandasse loro di andare nell'abisso.

and he was calling on him, that he may not command them to go away to the abyss,

32 O r c'era là un numeroso branco di porci che pascolavano sul monte, e quei demoni lo pregarono che permettesse loro di entrare in quelli. Ed egli lo permise loro.

and there was there a herd of many swine feeding in the mountain, and they were calling on him, that he might suffer them to enter into these, and he suffered them,

33 I demoni allora, usciti da quell'uomo, entrarono nei porci, e quel branco si precipitò dal dirupo nel lago ed annegò.

and the demons having gone forth from the man, did enter into the swine, and the herd rushed down the steep to the lake, and were choked.

34 E quando videro ciò che era accaduto, quelli che li custodivano fuggirono e andarono a portare la notizia in città e per le campagne.

And those feeding, having seen what was come to pass, fled, and having gone, told to the city, and to the fields;

35 L a gente allora uscí per vedere ciò che era accaduto e venne da Gesú, e trovò l'uomo dal quale erano usciti i demoni seduto ai piedi di Gesú, vestito e sano di mente, ed ebbe paura.

and they came forth to see what was come to pass, and they came unto Jesus, and found the man sitting, out of whom the demons had gone forth, clothed, and right-minded, at the feet of Jesus, and they were afraid;

36 O r quelli che avevano visto l'accaduto, raccontarono loro come l'indemoniato era stato liberato.

and those also having seen, told them how the demoniac was saved.

37 A llora tutta la popolazione della regione dei Gadareni, chiese a Gesú di allontanarsi da loro, perché erano in preda a un grande spavento. E Gesú, salito sulla barca, tornò indietro.

And the whole multitude of the region of the Gadarenes round about asked him to go away from them, because with great fear they were pressed, and he having entered into the boat, did turn back.

38 I ntanto l'uomo, da cui erano usciti i demoni, lo pregava di poter restare con lui; ma Gesú lo congedò, dicendo:

And the man from whom the demons had gone forth was beseeching of him to be with him, and Jesus sent him away, saying,

39 « Ritorna a casa tua e racconta quali grandi cose Dio ha fatto per te». Ed egli se ne andò per tutta la città proclamando le grandi cose che Gesú aveva fatto per lui.

`Turn back to thy house, and tell how great things God did to thee;' and he went away through all the city proclaiming how great things Jesus did to him.

40 O r avvenne che, quando Gesú fu ritornato, la folla lo accolse perché tutti lo aspettavano.

And it came to pass, in the turning back of Jesus, the multitude received him, for they were all looking for him,

41 E d ecco venire un uomo di nome Iairo, che era capo della sinagoga; gettatosi ai piedi di Gesú, lo pregava di andare a casa sua,

and lo, there came a man, whose name Jairus, and he was a chief of the synagogue, and having fallen at the feet of Jesus, was calling on him to come to his house;

42 p erché egli aveva una figlia unica di circa dodici anni, che stava per morire. Or mentre vi andava, la folla gli si accalcava attorno.

because he had an only daughter about twelve years, and she was dying. And in his going away, the multitudes were thronging him,

43 E una donna, che aveva un flusso di sangue da dodici anni ed aveva speso con i medici tutti i suoi beni senza poter essere guarita da alcuno

and a woman, having an issue of blood for twelve years, who, having spent on physicians all her living, was not able to be healed by any,

44 S i avvicinò di dietro e toccò il lembo del suo vestito, e in quell'istante il suo flusso di sangue si arrestò.

having come near behind, touched the fringe of his garment, and presently the issue of her blood stood.

45 E Gesú disse: «Chi mi ha toccato?». Siccome tutti lo negavano, Pietro e coloro che erano con lui dissero: «Maestro, le folle ti stringono e ti premono e tu dici: Chi mi ha toccato?».

And Jesus said, `Who it that touched me?' and all denying, Peter and those with him said, `Master, the multitudes press thee, and throng, and thou dost say, Who it that touched me!'

46 M a Gesú disse: «Qualcuno mi ha toccato, perché ho sentito che una potenza è uscita da me».

And Jesus said, `Some one did touch me, for I knew power having gone forth from me.'

47 A llora la donna, vedendo che non era rimasta inosservata, venne tutta tremante e, gettandosi ai suoi piedi, gli dichiarò in presenza di tutto il popolo per quale motivo lo aveva toccato e come era stata guarita all'istante.

And the woman, having seen that she was not hid, trembling, came, and having fallen before him, for what cause she touched him declared to him before all the people, and how she was healed presently;

48 E d egli le disse: «Fatti animo, figliola; la tua fede ti ha guarita; va' in pace!».

and he said to her, `Take courage, daughter, thy faith hath saved thee, be going on to peace.'

49 M entre egli parlava ancora, venne uno dalla casa del capo della sinagoga, e gli disse: «La tua figlia è morta, non disturbare il maestro».

While he is yet speaking, there doth come a certain one from the chief of the synagogue's, saying to him -- `Thy daughter hath died, harass not the Teacher;'

50 M a Gesú, udito ciò, gli disse: «Non temere; credi solamente ed ella sarà quanta».

and Jesus having heard, answered him, saying, `Be not afraid, only believe, and she shall be saved.'

51 G iunto alla casa, non permise ad alcuno di entrare, eccetto Pietro, Giovanni e Giacomo, e il padre e la madre della fanciulla.

And having come to the house, he suffered no one to go in, except Peter, and James, and John, and the father of the child, and the mother;

52 O r tutti piangevano e facevano cordoglio per lei. Ma egli disse: «Non piangete; ella non è morta, ma dorme».

and they were all weeping, and beating themselves for her, and he said, `Weep not, she did not die, but doth sleep;

53 E d essi lo deridevano, sapendo che era morta.

and they were deriding him, knowing that she did die;

54 M a egli, dopo aver messo tutti fuori, le prese la mano ed esclamò dicendo: «Fanciulla, alzati!».

and he having put all forth without, and having taken hold of her hand, called, saying, `Child, arise;'

55 E il suo spirito ritornò in lei e subito ella si alzò; Gesú poi comandò che le si desse da mangiare.

and her spirit came back, and she arose presently, and he directed that there be given to her to eat;

56 E i suoi genitori rimasero stupefatti. Ma Gesú raccomandò loro di non dire a nessuno quanto era accaduto.

and her parents were amazed, but he charged them to say to no one what was come to pass.
