1 P oi mi fece vedere il sommo sacerdote Giosuè, che stava ritto davanti all'angelo dell'Eterno, e Satana che stava alla sua destra per accusarlo.

And he sheweth me Joshua the high priest standing before the messenger of Jehovah, and the Adversary standing at his right hand, to be an adversary to him.

2 L 'Eterno disse a Satana: «Ti sgridi l'Eterno, o Satana! Sí, l'Eterno che ha scelto Gerusalemme ti sgridi! Non è forse costui un tizzone strappato dal fuoco?».

And Jehovah saith unto the Adversary: `Jehovah doth push against thee, O Adversary, Yea, push against thee doth Jehovah, Who is fixing on Jerusalem, Is not this a brand delivered from fire?'

3 O r Giosuè era vestito di vesti sudicie e stava ritto davanti all'angelo,

And Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and is standing before the messenger.

4 i l quale prese a dire a quelli che gli stavano davanti: «Toglietegli di dosso quelle vesti sudicie!». Poi disse a lui: «Guarda, ho fatto scomparire da te la tua iniquità e ti farò indossare abiti magnifici».

And he answereth and speaketh unto those standing before him, saying: `Turn aside the filthy garments from off him.' And he saith unto him, `See, I have caused thine iniquity to pass away from off thee, so as to clothe thee with costly apparel.'

5 I o quindi dissi: «Mettano sul suo capo un turbante puro». Cosí essi gli misero in capo un turbante puro e gli fecero indossare delle vesti, mentre l'Angelo dell'Eterno era là presente.

He also said, `Let them set a pure diadem on his head. And they set the pure diadem on his head, and clothe him with garments. And the messenger of Jehovah is standing,

6 E l'Angelo dell'Eterno ammoní solennemente Giosuè dicendo:

and the messenger of Jehovah doth protest to Joshua, saying:

7 « Cosí dice l'Eterno degli eserciti: Se camminerai nelle mie vie e osserverai la mia legge, anche tu governerai la mia casa e custodirai i miei cortili, e io ti darò libero accesso fra quelli che stanno qui.

`Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: If in My ways thou dost walk, And if My charge thou dost keep, Then also thou dost judge My house, And also thou dost keep My courts, And I have given to thee conductors among these standing by.

8 A scolta dunque, o Giosuè, sommo sacerdote, tu e i tuoi compagni che siedono davanti a te, perché essi sono uomini di presagio, Ecco, io faccio venire il mio servo, il Germoglio,

Hear, I pray thee, Joshua, the high priest, Thou and thy companions sitting before thee, (For men of type they,) For lo, I am bringing in My servant -- a Shoot.

9 E cco la pietra che ho posto davanti a Giosuè: su quest'unica pietra ci sono sette occhi; ecco, io inciderò la sua iscrizione», dice l'Eterno degli eserciti, «e rimuoverò l'iniquità di questo paese in un sol giorno.

For lo, the stone that I put before Joshua, On one stone seven eyes, Lo, I am graving its graving, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts, And I have removed the iniquity of that land in one day.

10 I n quel giorno», dice l'Eterno degli eserciti, «ognuno di voi inviterà il suo vicino sotto la sua vite e sotto il suo fico»,

In that day -- an affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts, Ye do call, each unto his neighbour, Unto the place of the vine, And unto the place of the fig-tree!'
