1 A llora DIO pronunziò tutte queste parole, dicendo:

`And God speaketh all these words, saying,

2 « Io sono l'Eterno, il tuo DIO", che ti ha fatto uscire dal paese d'Egitto, dalla casa di schiavitú.

I Jehovah thy God, who hath brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of a house of servants.

3 N on avrai altri dei davanti a me.

`Thou hast no other Gods before Me.

4 N on ti farai scultura alcuna né immagine alcuna delle cose che sono lassú nei cieli o quaggiú sulla terra o nelle acque sotto la terra.

`Thou dost not make to thyself a graven image, or any likeness which in the heavens above, or which in the earth beneath, or which in the waters under the earth.

5 N on ti prostrerai davanti a loro e non le servirai, perché io, l'Eterno, il tuo DIO, sono un Dio geloso che punisce l'iniquità dei padri sui figli fino alla terza e alla quarta generazione di quelli che mi odiano

Thou dost not bow thyself to them, nor serve them: for I, Jehovah thy God, a zealous God, charging iniquity of fathers on sons, on the third, and on the fourth, of those hating Me,

6 e uso benignità a migliaia, a quelli che mi amano e osservano i miei comandamenti.

and doing kindness to thousands, of those loving Me and keeping My commands.

7 N on userai il nome dell'Eterno, il tuo DIO, invano, perché l'Eterno non lascerà impunito chi usa il suo nome invano.

`Thou dost not take up the name of Jehovah thy God for a vain thing, for Jehovah acquitteth not him who taketh up His name for a vain thing.

8 R icordati del giorno di sabato per santificarlo.

`Remember the Sabbath-day to sanctify it;

9 L avorerai sei giorni e in essi farai ogni tuo lavoro;

six days thou dost labour, and hast done all thy work,

10 m a il settimo giorno è sabato, sacro all'Eterno, il tuo DIO; non farai in esso alcun lavoro, né tu, né tuo figlio, né tua figlia, né il tuo servo, né la tua serva, né il tuo bestiame, né il forestiero che é dentro alle tue porte;

and the seventh day a Sabbath to Jehovah thy God; thou dost not do any work, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, thy man-servant, and thy handmaid, and thy cattle, and thy sojourner who is within thy gates, --

11 p oiché in sei giorni l'Eterno fece i cieli e la terra, il mare e tutto ciò che è in essi, e il settimo giorno si riposò; perciò l'Eterno ha benedetto il giorno di sabato e l'ha santificato.

for six days hath Jehovah made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that in them, and resteth in the seventh day; therefore hath Jehovah blessed the Sabbath-day, and doth sanctify it.

12 O norerai tuo padre e tua madre, affinché i tuoi giorni siano lunghi sulla terra che l'Eterno, il tuo DIO ti dà.

`Honour thy father and thy mother, so that thy days are prolonged on the ground which Jehovah thy God is giving to thee.

13 N on ucciderai.

`Thou dost not murder.

14 N on commetterai adulterio.

`Thou dost not commit adultery.

15 N on ruberai.

`Thou dost not steal.

16 N on farai falsa testimonianza contro il tuo prossimo.

`Thou dost not answer against thy neighbour a false testimony.

17 N on desidererai la casa del tuo prossimo; non desidererai la moglie del tuo prossimo, né il suo servo, né la sua serva, né il suo bue, né il suo asino, né cosa alcuna che sia del tuo prossimo».

`Thou dost not desire the house of thy neighbour, thou dost not desire the wife of thy neighbour, or his man-servant, or his handmaid, or his ox, or his ass, or anything which thy neighbour's.'

18 O ra tutto il popolo udiva i tuoni, il suono della tromba e vedeva i lampi é il monte fumante. A tale vista, il popolo tremava e si teneva a distanza.

And all the people are seeing the voices, and the flames, and the sound of the trumpet, and the mount smoking; and the people see, and move, and stand afar off,

19 P erciò essi dissero a Mosè: «Parla tu con noi e noi ti ascolteremo, ma non ci parli DIO perché non abbiamo a morire».

and say unto Moses, `Speak thou with us, and we hear, and let not God speak with us, lest we die.'

20 M osè disse al popolo: «Non temete, perché DIO è venuto per provarvi, e affinché il timore di lui vi sia sempre davanti, e così non pecchiate».

And Moses saith unto the people, `Fear not, for to try you hath God come, and in order that His fear may be before your faces -- that ye sin not.'

21 I l popolo si teneva dunque a distanza, ma Mosè si avvicinò alla densa oscurità dov'era DIO.

And the people stand afar off, and Moses hath drawn nigh unto the thick darkness where God.

22 P oi l'Eterno disse a Mosè: «Dirai così ai figli d'Israele: "Voi stessi avete visto che ho parlato con voi dal cielo.

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Thus dost thou say unto the sons of Israel: Ye -- ye have seen that from the heavens I have spoken with you;

23 N on farete altri dei accanto a me; non vi farete dei d'argento o dei d'oro.

ye do not make with Me gods of silver, even gods of gold ye do not make to yourselves.

24 F arai per me un altare di terra e su questo offrirai i tuoi olocausti, i tuoi sacrifici di ringraziamento, le tue pecore e i tuoi buoi; in ogni luogo in cui farò si che il mio nome sia ricordato, verrò a te e ti benedirò.

`An altar of earth thou dost make for Me, and thou hast sacrificed on it thy burnt-offerings and thy peace-offerings, thy flock and thy herd; in every place where I cause My name to be remembered I come in unto thee, and have blessed thee.

25 E se farai per me un altare di pietra, non lo costruirai con pietre tagliate; perché alzando su di esse lo scalpello le contamineresti.

`And if an altar of stones thou dost make to Me, thou dost not build them of hewn work; when thy tool thou hast waved over it, then thou dost pollute it;

26 E non salirai al mio altare per mezzo di gradini, affinché su di esso non si scopra la tua nudità"».

neither dost thou go up by steps on Mine altar, that thy nakedness be not revealed upon it.
