1 A llora lo Spirito di DIO investí Azariah, figlio di Oded,

And upon Azariah son of Oded hath been the Spirit of God,

2 c he uscí a incontrare Asa e gli disse: «Asa, e voi tutti di Giuda e di Beniamino, ascoltatemi! L'Eterno è con voi, quando voi siete con lui. Se lo cercate egli si farà trovare da voi, ma se lo abbandonate egli vi abbandonerà.

and he goeth out before Asa, and saith to him, `Hear, me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin; Jehovah with you -- in your being with Him, and if ye seek Him, He is found of you, and if ye forsake Him, He forsaketh you;

3 P er lungo tempo Israele è stato senza il vero DIO, senza sacerdote che insegnasse e senza legge.

and many days to Israel without a true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law,

4 M a nella loro avversità sono ritornati all'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele, l'hanno cercato ed egli si è lasciato trovare da loro.

and it turneth back in its distress unto Jehovah, God of Israel, and they seek Him, and He is found of them,

5 I n quel tempo non c'era sicurezza per quelli che andavano e per quelli che venivano, perché tutti gli abitanti dei paesi erano in grande agitazione.

and in those times there is no peace to him who is going out, and to him who is coming in, for many troubles on all the inhabitants of the lands,

6 U na nazione era schiacciata da un'altra, e una città da un'altra, perché DIO li affliggeva con sventure di ogni genere.

and they have been beaten down, nation by nation, and city by city, for God hath troubled them with every adversity;

7 M a voi siate forti e non lasciate che le vostre braccia si indeboliscano, perché il vostro lavoro sarà ricompensato».

and ye, be ye strong, and let not your hands be feeble, for there is a reward for your work.'

8 Q uando Asa ebbe udito queste parole e la profezia del profeta Oded, prese coraggio e rimosse gli idoli abominevoli da tutto il paese di Giuda e di Beniamino e dalle città che aveva espugnato nella regione montuosa di Efraim, e riparò l'altare dell'Eterno che si trovava davanti all'atrio dell'Eterno.

And at Asa's hearing these words, and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he hath strengthened himself, and doth cause the abominations to pass away out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities that he hath captured from the hill-country of Ephraim, and reneweth the altar of Jehovah that before the porch of Jehovah,

9 Q uindi radunò tutto Giuda e Beniamino e quelli di Efraim, di Manasse e di Simeone che risiedevano con loro infatti erano venuti a lui in gran numero da Israele, quando avevano visto che l'Eterno, il suo DIO, era con lui.

and gathereth all Judah and Benjamin, and the sojourners with them out of Ephraim, and Manasseh, and out of Simeon -- for they have fallen unto him from Israel in abundance, in their seeing that Jehovah his God with him.

10 C osí si radunarono a Gerusalemme nel terzo mese del quindicesimo anno del regno di Asa.

And they are gathered to Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of the reign of Asa,

11 I n quel tempo sacrificarono all'Eterno, dal bottino che avevano preso, settecento buoi e settemila pecore.

and sacrifice to Jehovah on that day from the spoil they have brought in -- oxen seven hundred, and sheep seven thousand,

12 S i impegnarono quindi con un patto a cercare l'Eterno, il DIO dei loro padri, con tutto il loro cuore e con tutta la loro anima.

and they enter into a covenant to seek Jehovah, God of their fathers, with all their heart, and with all their soul,

13 C hiunque non avesse cercato l'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele, sarebbe stato messo a morte, grande o piccolo che fosse, uomo o donna.

and every one who doth not seek for Jehovah, God of Israel, is put to death, from small unto great, from man unto woman.

14 I noltre fecero un giuramento all'Eterno a gran voce e con grida di giubilo, al suono delle trombe e dei corni.

And they swear to Jehovah with a loud voice, and with shouting, and with trumpets, and with cornets,

15 T utto Giuda si rallegrò del giuramento, perché avevano giurato con tutto il loro cuore e avevano cercato l'Eterno con tutta la loro volontà, ed egli si era lasciato trovare da loro. Cosí l'Eterno diede loro riposo tutt'intorno.

and rejoice do all Judah concerning the oath, for with all their heart they have sworn, and with all their good-will they have sought Him, and He is found of them, and Jehovah giveth rest to them round about.

16 E gli destituí persino Maakah, madre del re Asa, dalla sua posizione di regina, perché essa aveva fatto un'immagine abominevole di Ascerah. Quindi Asa demolí l'immagine, la fece a pezzi e la bruciò presso il torrente Kidron.

And also Maachah, mother of Asa the king -- he hath removed her from mistress, in that she hath made for a shrine a horrible thing, and Asa cutteth down her horrible thing, and beateth small, and burneth by the brook Kidron:

17 M a gli alti luoghi non furono eliminati da Israele, anche se il cuore di Asa rimase integro per tutta la sua vita.

yet the high places have not turned aside from Israel; only, the heart of Asa hath been perfect all his days.

18 E gli fece portare nella casa di DIO le cose consacrate da suo padre e le cose consacrate da lui stesso: argento, oro e vasi.

And he bringeth in the sanctified things of his father, and his own sanctified things, to the house of God, silver, and gold, and vessels.

19 E non ci fu piú guerra fino al trentacinquesimo anno del regno di Asa.

And war hath not been till the thirty and fifth year of the reign of Asa.
