1 O r avvenne, in capo a due interi anni, che il Faraone fece un sogno. Egli stava presso il fiume,

And it cometh to pass, at the end of two years of days that Pharaoh is dreaming, and lo, he is standing by the River,

2 e d ecco salire dal fiume sette vacche, di bell'aspetto e grasse, e mettersi a pascolare tra i giunchi.

and lo, from the River coming up are seven kine, of fair appearance, and fat flesh, and they feed among the reeds;

3 D opo quelle, ecco salire dal fiume altre sette vacche brutte di aspetto e scarne, e fermarsi accanto alle prime sulla riva del fiume.

and lo, seven other kine are coming up after them out of the River, of bad appearance, and lean flesh, and they stand near the kine on the edge of the River,

4 O ra le vacche brutte di aspetto e scarne divorarono le sette vacche di bell'aspetto e grasse. Quindi il Faraone si svegliò.

and the kine of bad appearance and lean flesh eat up the seven kine of fair appearance, and fat -- and Pharaoh awaketh.

5 P oi si riaddormentò e sognò una seconda volta; ed ecco, sette spighe grosse e belle, venir su da un unico stelo.

And he sleepeth, and dreameth a second time, and lo, seven ears are coming up on one stalk, fat and good,

6 P oi ecco, sette spighe sottili e arse dal vento orientale, germogliare dopo di quelle.

and lo, seven ears, thin, and blasted with an east wind, are springing up after them;

7 E le spighe sottili inghiottirono le sette spighe grosse e piene. Allora il Faraone si svegliò, ed ecco, era un sogno.

and the thin ears swallow the seven fat and full ears -- and Pharaoh awaketh, and lo, a dream.

8 A l mattino il suo spirito era turbato, e mandò a chiamare tutti i maghi e tutti i savi d'Egitto; quindi il Faraone raccontò loro i suoi sogni, ma non ci fu alcuno che li potesse interpretare al Faraone.

And it cometh to pass in the morning, that his spirit is moved, and he sendeth and calleth all the scribes of Egypt, and all its wise men, and Pharaoh recounteth to them his dream, and there is no interpreter of them to Pharaoh.

9 A llora il capocoppiere parlò al Faraone, dicendo: Ricordo oggi i miei falli.

And the chief of the butlers speaketh with Pharaoh, saying, `My sin I mention this day:

10 I l Faraone si era adirato con i suoi servi e mi aveva fatto mettere in prigione in casa del capo delle guardie: me e il capopanettiere.

Pharaoh hath been wroth against his servants, and giveth me into charge in the house of the chief of the executioners, me and the chief of the bakers;

11 E ntrambi facemmo un sogno nella stessa notte, io e lui; ciascuno fece un sogno con il suo proprio significato.

and we dream a dream in one night, I and he, each according to the interpretation of his dream we have dreamed.

12 O ra con noi vi era un giovane ebreo servo del capo delle guardie; a lui raccontammo i nostri sogni, ed egli ce li interpretò dando a ciascuno l'interpretazione del suo sogno.

And there with us a youth, a Hebrew, servant to the chief of the executioners, and we recount to him, and he interpreteth to us our dreams, each according to his dream hath he interpreted,

13 E le cose avvennero esattamente secondo l'interpretazione da lui dataci: il Faraone ristabilì me nel suo ufficio e fece impiccare l'altro».

and it cometh to pass, as he hath interpreted to us so it hath been, me he put back on my station, and him he hanged.'

14 A llora il Faraone mandò a chiamare Giuseppe che fu subito tratto fuori dalla prigione sotterranea. Così egli si rase si cambiò le vesti e venne dal Faraone.

And Pharaoh sendeth and calleth Joseph, and they cause him to run out of the pit, and he shaveth, and changeth his garments, and cometh in unto Pharaoh.

15 E il Faraone disse a Giuseppe: «Ho fatto un sogno e non vi è alcuno che lo possa interpretare; ma ho sentito dire di te che, quando hai udito un sogno tu lo puoi interpretare».

And Pharaoh saith unto Joseph, `A dream I have dreamed, and there is no interpreter of it, and I -- I have heard concerning thee, saying, Thou understandest a dream to interpret it,'

16 G iuseppe rispose al Faraone, dicendo: «Non sono io; ma sarà DIO a dare una risposta per il bene del Faraone».

and Joseph answereth Pharaoh, saying, `Without me -- God doth answer Pharaoh with peace.'

17 A llora il Faraone disse a Giuseppe: «Ecco nel mio sogno io stavo sulla riva del fiume,

And Pharaoh speaketh unto Joseph: `In my dream, lo, I am standing by the edge of the River,

18 q uand'ecco salire dal fiume sette vacche grasse e di bell'aspetto e mettersi a pascolare tra i giunchi.

and lo, out of the River coming up are seven kine, fat flesh, and of fair form, and they feed among the reeds;

19 D opo quelle ecco salire altre sette vacche magre, bruttissime di aspetto e scarne, tali che non ne vidi mai di così brutte in tutto il paese d'Egitto.

and lo, seven other kine are coming up after them, thin, and of very bad form, and lean flesh; I have not seen like these in all the land of Egypt for badness.

20 E le vacche magre e brutte divorarono le prime sette vacche grasse;

`And the lean and the bad kine eat up the first seven fat kine,

21 m a anche dopo che le ebbero divorate, nessuno poteva riconoscere che le avevano divorate, perché esse erano di brutto aspetto come prima. Così mi svegliai.

and they come in unto their midst, and it hath not been known that they have come in unto their midst, and their appearance bad as at the commencement; and I awake.

22 P oi vidi nel mio sogno sette spighe venir su da un unico stelo, piene e belle;

`And I see in my dream, and lo, seven ears are coming up on one stalk, full and good;

23 e d ecco altre sette spighe avvizzite, sottili e arse dal vento orientale, germogliare dopo quelle.

and lo, seven ears, withered, thin, blasted with an east wind, are springing up after them;

24 Q uindi le spighe sottili inghiottirono le sette spighe belle. Io ho raccontato questo ai maghi, ma non vi è stato alcuno capace di darmi una spiegazione».

and the thin ears swallow the seven good ears; and I tell unto the scribes, and there is none declaring to me.'

25 A llora Giuseppe disse al Faraone: «I sogni del Faraone sono uno stesso sogno. DIO ha mostrato al Faraone quello che sta per fare.

And Joseph saith unto Pharaoh, `The dream of Pharaoh is one: that which God is doing he hath declared to Pharaoh;

26 L e sette vacche belle sono sette anni, e le sette spighe belle sono sette anni; è uno stesso sogno.

the seven good kine are seven years, and the seven good ears are seven years, the dream is one;

27 A nche le sette vacche magre e brutte, che salivano dopo di quelle, sono sette anni; come pure le sette spighe vuote e arse dal vento orientale sono sette anni di carestia.

and the seven thin and bad kine which are coming up after them are seven years, and the seven empty ears, blasted with an east wind, are seven years of famine;

28 Q uesto è quello che ho detto al Faraone: DIO ha mostrato al Faraone quello che sta per fare.

this the thing which I have spoken unto Pharaoh: That which God is doing, he hath shewn Pharaoh.

29 E cco, stanno per venire sette anni di grande abbondanza in tutto il paese di Egitto;

`Lo, seven years are coming of great abundance in all the land of Egypt,

30 m a dopo questi verranno sette anni di carestia, e tutta quell'abbondanza sarà dimenticata nel paese d'Egitto; e la carestia consumerà il paese.

and seven years of famine have arisen after them, and all the plenty is forgotten in the land of Egypt, and the famine hath finished the land,

31 E nel paese non si ricorderà piú la precedete abbondanza, a motivo della carestia che seguirà, perché questa sarà molto dura.

and the plenty is not known in the land because of that famine afterwards, for it very grievous.

32 I l fatto poi che il sogno sia stato dato al Faraone due volte vuol dire che la cosa è decretata da DIO, e DIO la farà accadere presto.

`And because of the repeating of the dream unto Pharaoh twice, surely the thing is established by God, and God is hastening to do it.

33 O r dunque cerchi il Faraone un uomo intelligente e savio e lo stabilisca sul paese d'Egitto.

`And now, let Pharaoh provide a man, intelligent and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt;

34 I l Faraone faccia così: costituisca sul paese dei soprintendenti per prelevare il quinto dei prodotti del paese d'Egitto, durante i sette anni di abbondanza.

let Pharaoh make and appoint overseers over the land, and receive a fifth of the land of Egypt in the seven years of plenty,

35 R adunino essi tutti i viveri di queste annate buone che stanno per venire e ammassino il grano sotto l'autorità del Faraone, e lo conservino per l'approvvigionamento delle città.

and they gather all the food of these good years that are coming, and heap up corn under the hand of Pharaoh -- food in the cities; and they have kept,

36 Q uesti viveri saranno una riserva per il paese, in vista dei sette anni di carestia che verranno nel paese d'Egitto; così il paese non perirà per la carestia».

and the food hath been for a store for the land, for the seven years of famine which are in the land of Egypt; and the land is cut off by the famine.'

37 L a cosa piacque al Faraone e a tutti i suoi funzionari.

And the thing is good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants,

38 E il Faraone disse ai suoi funzionari: «Potremmo noi trovare un uomo come questi, in cui ci sia lo Spirito di DIO?».

and Pharaoh saith unto his servants, `Do we find like this, a man in whom the spirit of God ?'

39 A llora il Faraone disse a Giuseppe: «Poiché DIO ti ha fatto conoscere tutto questo, non vi è alcuno che sia intelligente e savio come te.

and Pharaoh saith unto Joseph, `After God's causing thee to know all this, there is none intelligent and wise as thou;

40 T u sarai sopra la mia casa e tutto il mio popolo obbedirà ai tuoi ordini; per il trono soltanto io sarò piú grande di te».

thou -- thou art over my house, and at thy mouth do all my people kiss; only in the throne I am greater than thou.'

41 I l Faraone disse a Giuseppe: «Vedi io ti stabilisco su tutto il paese d'Egitto».

And Pharaoh saith unto Joseph, `See, I have put thee over all the land of Egypt.'

42 P oi il Faraone si tolse l'anello dalla propria mano e lo mise alla mano di Giuseppe; lo fece vestire di abiti di lino fino e gli mise al collo una collana d'oro.

And Pharaoh turneth aside his seal-ring from off his hand, and putteth it on the hand of Joseph, and clotheth him garments of fine linen, and placeth a chain of gold on his neck,

43 L o fece quindi montare sul suo secondo carro e davanti a lui si gridava: «Inginocchio!». Così il Faraone lo costituì su tutto il paese d'Egitto.

and causeth him to ride in the second chariot which he hath, and they proclaim before him, `Bow the knee!' and -- to put him over all the land of Egypt.

44 I noltre il Faraone disse a Giuseppe: «Il Faraone sono io ma, senza di te, nessuno alzerà la mano o il piede in tutto il paese d'Egitto».

And Pharaoh saith unto Joseph, `I Pharaoh, and without thee a man doth not lift up his hand and his foot in all the land of Egypt;'

45 E il Faraone chiamó Giuseppe col nome di Tsofnath-Paneah, e gli diede in moglie Asenath figlia di Potiferah, sacerdote di On. E Giuseppe partì per visitare il paese d'Egitto.

and Pharaoh calleth Joseph's name Zaphnath-Paaneah, and he giveth to him Asenath daughter of Poti-Pherah, priest of On, for a wife, and Joseph goeth out over the land of Egypt.

46 O ra Giuseppe aveva trent'anni quando si presentò davanti a Faraone, re d'Egitto. Quindi Giuseppe lasciò la presenza del Faraone e percorse tutto il paese d'Egitto.

And Joseph a son of thirty years in his standing before Pharaoh king of Egypt, and Joseph goeth out from the presence of Pharaoh, and passeth over through all the land of Egypt;

47 D urante i sette anni di abbondanza, la terra produsse copiosamente;

and the land maketh in the seven years of plenty by handfuls.

48 e Giuseppe radunò tutti i viveri di quei sette anni prodotti nel paese d'Egitto e ripose i viveri nelle città; in ogni città ripose i viveri del territorio circonvicino.

And he gathereth all the food of the seven years which have been in the land of Egypt, and putteth food in the cities; the food of the field which round about city hath he put in its midst;

49 C osì Giuseppe ammassò grano come la sabbia del mare, in così gran quantità, che si smise di tenere i conti perché era incalcolabile.

and Joseph gathereth corn as sand of the sea, multiplying exceedingly, until that he hath ceased to number, for there is no number.

50 p rima che venisse l'anno della carestia, nacquero a Giuseppe due figli che Asenath, figlia di Potiferah, sacerdote di On, gli partorì.

And to Joseph were born two sons before the year of famine cometh, whom Asenath daughter of Poti-Pherah, priest of On, hath borne to him,

51 G iuseppe chiamò il primogenito Manasse perché disse: «DIO mi ha fatto dimenticare ogni mio affanno e tutta la casa di mio padre».

and Joseph calleth the name of the first-born Manasseh: `for, God hath made me to forget all my labour, and all the house of my father;'

52 A l secondo invece pose nome Efraim, perché disse: «DIO mi ha reso fruttifero nel paese della mia afflizione».

and the name of the second he hath called Ephraim: `for, God hath caused me to be fruitful in the land of mine affliction.'

53 I sette anni di abbondanza che vi furono nel paese d'Egitto finirono,

And the seven years of plenty are completed which have been in the land of Egypt,

54 e cominciarono a venire i sette anni di carestia, come Giuseppe aveva detto. Ci fu carestia in tutti i paesi, ma in tutto il paese d'Egitto vi era del pane.

and the seven years of famine begin to come, as Joseph said, and famine is in all the lands, but in all the land of Egypt hath been bread;

55 P oi tutto il paese d'Egitto cominciò ad aver fame, e il popolo gridò al Faraone per aver del pane. Allora il Faraone disse a tutti gli Egiziani: «Andate da Giuseppe, e fate quello che vi dirà».

and all the land of Egypt is famished, and the people crieth unto Pharaoh for bread, and Pharaoh saith to all the Egyptians, `Go unto Joseph; that which he saith to you -- do.'

56 L a carestia si era sparsa sulla superficie di tutto il paese, e Giuseppe aperse tutti i depositi e vendé grano agli Egiziani. Ma la carestia si aggravò nel paese d'Egitto.

And the famine has been over all the face of the land, and Joseph openeth all which have in them, and selleth to the Egyptians; and the famine is severe in the land of Egypt,

57 C osì la gente di tutti i paesi veniva in Egitto da Giuseppe per comprare del grano, perché la carestia era grave in tutta la terra.

and all the earth hath come to Egypt, to buy, unto Joseph, for the famine was severe in all the earth.
