1 I n quel tempo Abijah, figlio di Geroboamo, si ammalò.

At that time was Abijah son of Jeroboam sick,

2 G eroboamo disse a sua moglie: «Lèvati, ti prego, e travestiti perché non si sappia che tu sei la moglie di Geroboamo, e va' a Sciloh. Là c'è il profeta Ahijaha che mi ha predetto che sarei stato re su questo popolo.

and Jeroboam saith to his wife, `Rise, I pray thee, and change thyself, and they know not that thou wife of Jeroboam, and thou hast gone to Shiloh; lo, there Ahijah the prophet; he spake unto me of king over this people;

3 P rendi con te dieci pani. alcune focacce e un vaso di miele e va' da lui; egli ti dirà ciò che avverrà del fanciullo».

and thou hast taken in thy hand ten loaves, and crumbs, and a bottle of honey, and hast gone in unto him; he doth declare to thee what becometh of the youth.'

4 L a moglie di Geroboamo fece cosí; si levò, andò a Sciloh e giunse a casa di Ahijah. Ahijah non poteva vedere, perché i suoi occhi si erano offuscati a motivo della vecchiaia.

And the wife of Jeroboam doth so, and riseth, and goeth to Shiloh, and entereth the house of Ahijah, and Ahijah is not able to see, for his eyes have stood because of his age.

5 O ra l'Eterno aveva detto ad Ahijah: «Ecco la moglie di Geroboamo sta venendo per consultarti riguardo a suo figlio che è ammalato. Tu le dirai cosí e cosí. Quando entrerà, fingerà di essere un'altra donna».

And Jehovah said unto Ahijah, `Lo, the wife of Jeroboam is coming to seek a word from thee concerning her son, for he is sick; thus and thus thou dost speak unto her, and it cometh to pass at her coming in, that she is making herself strange.'

6 A ppena Ahijah udí il rumore dei suoi passi che entrava per la porta, disse: «Entra pure, moglie di Geroboamo. Perché fingi di essere un'altra persona? Io devo darti cattive notizie.

And it cometh to pass, at Ahijah's hearing the sound of her feet she came in to the opening, that he saith, `Come in, wife of Jeroboam, why is this -- thou art making thyself strange? and I am sent unto thee a sharp thing:

7 V a' e di' a Geroboamo: "Cosí parla l'Eterno il DIO d'Israele: lo ti ho innalzato di mezzo al popolo e ti ho fatto principe sul mio popolo Israele,

Go, say to Jeroboam, Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, Because that I have made thee high out of the midst of the people, and appoint thee leader over my people Israel,

8 h o strappato il regno dalle mani della casa di Davide e l'ho dato a te, ma tu non sei stato come il mio servo Davide che osservò i miei comandamenti e mi seguí con tutto il suo cuore facendo solamente ciò che era giusto ai miei occhi,

and rend the kingdom from the house of David, and give it to thee, -- and thou hast not been as My servant David who kept My commands, and who walked after Me with all his heart, to do only that which right in Mine eyes,

9 h ai fatto peggio di tutti quelli che furono prima di te, perché sei arrivato a farti altri dèi e immagini fuse per provocarmi ad ira, e hai gettato me dietro alle tue spalle.

and thou dost evil above all who have been before thee, and goest, and makest to thee other gods and molten images to provoke Me to anger, and Me thou hast cast behind thy back:

10 P er questo ecco io manderò la sventura sulla casa di Geroboamo e sterminerò dalla casa di Geroboamo ogni maschio in Israele, sia schiavo che libero, e spazzerò via interamente la casa di Geroboamo, come si spazza lo sterco finché sia tutto sparito.

`Therefore, lo, I am bringing in evil unto the house of Jeroboam, and have cut off to Jeroboam those sitting on the wall -- shut up and left -- in Israel, and have put away the posterity of the house of Jeroboam, as one putteth away the dung till its consumption;

11 Q uelli della casa di Geroboamo che moriranno in città saranno divorati dai cani; e quelli che moriranno per i campi saranno divorati dagli uccelli del cielo; poiché l'Eterno ha parlato.

him who dieth of Jeroboam in a city do the dogs eat, and him who dieth in a field do fowl of the heavens eat, for Jehovah hath spoken.

12 P erciò alzati e va' a casa tua; non appena metterai piede in città, il bambino morrà.

`And thou, rise, go to thy house; in the going in of thy feet to the city -- hath the lad died;

13 T utto Israele lo piangerà e gli darà sepoltura. Egli sarà l'unico della casa di Geroboamo ad essere sepolto, perché è il solo nella casa di Geroboamo in cui è stato trovato qualcosa di buono e che piace all'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele.

and all Israel have mourned for him, and buried him, for this one -- by himself -- cometh of Jeroboam unto a grave, because there hath been found in him a good thing towards Jehovah, God of Israel, in the house of Jeroboam.

14 L 'Eterno stabilirà sopra Israele un suo re, che in quel giorno sterminerà la casa di Geroboamo. E che dico? Questo succede già ora.

`And Jehovah hath raised up for Him a king over Israel who cutteth off the house of Jeroboam this day -- and what? -- even now!

15 L 'Eterno percuoterà Israele come una canna agitata nell'acqua, sradicherà Israele da questa buona terra che aveva dato ai loro padri e li disperderà oltre il Fiume, perché hanno fatto i loro Ascerim, provocando ad ira l'Eterno.

And Jehovah hath smitten Israel as the reed is moved by the waters, and hath plucked Israel from off this good ground that He gave to their fathers, and scattered them beyond the River, because that they made their shrines, provoking Jehovah to anger;

16 E gli abbandonerà Israele a causa dei peccati di Geroboamo, perché ha peccato lui e ha fatto peccare Israele"».

and He giveth up Israel because of the sins of Jeroboam that he sinned, and that he caused Israel to sin.'

17 P oi la moglie di Geroboamo si levò e partí, e giunse a Tirtsah; come arrivò sulla soglia di casa, il fanciullo morí.

And the wife of Jeroboam riseth, and goeth, and cometh to Tirzah; she hath come in to the threshold of the house, and the youth dieth;

18 L o seppellirono e tutto Israele lo pianse secondo la parola che l'Eterno aveva detto per mezzo del profeta Ahijah, suo servo.

and they bury him, and mourn for him do all Israel, according to the word of Jehovah, that he spake by the hand of His servant Ahijah the prophet.

19 I l resto delle gesta di Geroboamo, come egli combattè e come regnò, sono scritte nel libro delle Cronache dei re d'Israele.

And the rest of the matters of Jeroboam, how he fought, and how he reigned, lo, they are written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel.

20 L a durata del regno di Geroboamo fu di, ventidue anni; poi si addormentò con i suoi padri, e al suo posto regnò suo figlio Nadab.

And the days that Jeroboam reigned twenty and two years, and he lieth with his fathers, and reign doth Nadab his son in his stead.

21 R oboamo, figlio di Salomone regnò in Giuda. Egli aveva ventun anni quando divenne re e regnò diciassette anni a Gerusalemme, nella città che l'Eterno aveva scelto fra tutte le tribú d'Israele per mettervi il suo nome. Sua madre si chiamava Naamah, l'Ammonita.

And Rehoboam son of Solomon hath reigned in Judah; a son of forty and one years Rehoboam in his reigning, and seventeen years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, the city that Jehovah chose to set His name there, out of all the tribes of Israel, and the name of his mother Naamah the Ammonitess.

22 Q uei di Giuda fecero ciò che è male agli occhi dell'Eterno; e con i peccati che commisero provocarono l'Eterno a gelosia piú di quanto avessero fatto i loro padri.

And Judah doth the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, and they make Him zealous above all that their fathers did by their sins that they have sinned.

23 A nch'essi si costruirono alti luoghi, steli e Ascerim su tutte le alte colline e sotto ogni albero verdeggiante.

And they build -- also they -- for themselves high places, and standing-pillars, and shrines, on every high height, and under every green tree;

24 I noltre c'erano nel paese uomini che si davano alla prostituzione sacra. Essi praticavano tutte le abominazioni delle nazioni che l'Eterno aveva scacciato davanti ai figli d'Israele.

and also a whoremonger hath been in the land; they have done according to all the abominations of the nations that Jehovah dispossessed from the presence of the sons of Israel.

25 N ell'anno quinto del re Roboamo, Scishak, re d'Egitto, salí contro Gerusalemme,

And it cometh to pass, in the fifth year of king Rehoboam, gone up hath Shishak king of Egypt against Jerusalem,

26 e portò via i tesori della casa dell'Eterno e i tesori del palazzo reale; portò via ogni cosa, compresi gli scudi d'oro che Salomone aveva fatto.

and he taketh the treasures of the house of Jehovah, and the treasures of the house of the king, yea, the whole he hath taken; and he taketh all the shields of gold that Solomon made.

27 A l loro posto il re Roboamo fece fare degli scudi di bronzo e li affidò ai capitani delle guardie che custodivano l'entrata del palazzo reale.

And king Rehoboam maketh in their stead shields of brass, and hath made a charge on the hand of the heads of the runners, those keeping the opening of the house of the king,

28 O gni volta che il re entrava nella casa dell'Eterno, le guardie li riportavano nella sala delle guardie.

and it cometh to pass, from the going in of the king to the house of Jehovah, the runners bear them, and have brought them back unto the chamber of the runners.

29 l l resto delle azioni di Roboamo e tutto ciò che egli fece non sono forse scritti nel libro delle Cronache dei re di Giuda?

And the rest of the matters of Rehoboam, and all that he did, are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Judah?

30 V i fu guerra continua fra Roboamo e Geroboamo.

And war hath been between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days;

31 P oi Roboamo si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto con essi nella città di Davide. Sua madre si chiamava Naamah l'Ammonita. Al suo posto regnò suo figlio Abijam.

and Rehoboam lieth with his fathers, and is buried with his fathers, in the city of David, and the name of his mother Naamah the Ammonitess, and reign doth Abijam his son in his stead.
