1 H iram, re di Tiro, inviò a Davide messaggeri, legname di cedro, muratori e falegnami per costruirgli una casa.

And Huram king of Tyre sendeth messengers unto David, and cedar-wood, and artificers of walls, and artificers of wood, to build to him a house.

2 A llora Davide riconobbe che l'Eterno lo aveva stabilito come re d'Israele, perché il suo regno era grandemente esaltato a motivo del suo popolo Israele.

And David knoweth that Jehovah hath established him for king over Israel, because of the lifting up on high of his kingdom, for the sake of His people Israel.

3 D avide prese altre mogli in Gerusalemme, e generò figli e figlie.

And David taketh again wives in Jerusalem, and David begetteth again sons and daughters;

4 Q uesti sono i nomi dei figli che gli nacquero in Gerusalemme: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Salomone,

and these the names of the children whom he hath in Jerusalem: Shammua, and Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon,

5 I bhar, Elishua, Elpelet,

and Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpalet,

6 N ogah, Nefegh, Jafia.

and Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia,

7 E lishama, Beeliada ed Elifelet.

and Elishama, and Beeliada, and Eliphalet.

8 Q uando i Filistei vennero a sapere che Davide era stato unto re di tutto Israele, salirono tutti in cerca di Davide. Appena lo seppe, Davide uscí loro incontro.

And the Philistines hear that David hath been anointed for king over all Israel, and all the Philistines go up to seek David, and David heareth, and goeth out before them.

9 I Filistei giunsero e si sparpagliarono per la valle dei Refaim.

And the Philistines have come, and rush into the valley of Rephaim,

10 A llora Davide consultò Dio, dicendo: «Devo io salire contro i Filistei? Me li darai tu nelle mani?». L'Eterno gli rispose: «Sali, e io li darò nelle tue mani».

and David asketh of God, saying, `Do I go up against the Philistines -- and hast Thou given them into my hand?' And Jehovah saith to him, `Go up, and I have given them into thy hand.'

11 E ssi salirono a Baal-Peratsim, dove Davide li sconfisse e disse: «DIO ha aperto per mano mia un varco tra i miei nemici, come un varco aperto dalle acque». Per questo misero a quel luogo il nome di Baal-Peratsim.

And they go up into Baal-Perazim, and David smiteth them there, and David saith, `God hath broken up mine enemies by my hand, like the breaking up of waters;' therefore they have called the name of that place Baal-Perazim.

12 I Filistei abbandonarono là i loro dèi, e Davide ordinò che fossero bruciati nel fuoco.

And they leave there their gods, and David speaketh, and they are burnt with fire.

13 I n seguito i Filistei tornarono a sparpagliarsi per la valle.

And the Philistines add again, and rush into the valley,

14 D avide consultò di nuovo DIO, e DIO gli disse: «Non salire dietro di loro ma aggirali alle spalle e piomba su di loro di fronte ai balsami.

and David asketh again of God, and God saith to him, `Do not go up after them, turn round from them, and thou hast come to them from over-against the mulberries;

15 Q uando udrai un rumore di passi sulle cime dei balsami, lanciati subito all'attacco, perché DIO uscirà davanti a te per sconfiggere l'esercito dei Filistei».

and it cometh to pass, when thou hearest the sound of the stepping at the heads of the mulberries, then thou goest out into battle, for God hath gone out before thee to smite the camp of the Philistines.'

16 D avide fece come DIO gli aveva comandato, ed essi sconfissero l'esercito dei Filistei da Gabaon fino a Ghezer.

And David doth as God commanded him, and they smite the camp of the Philistines from Gibeon even unto Gazer;

17 C osí la fama di Davide si sparse per tutti i paesi, e l'Eterno fece venire il terrore di lui su tutte le nazioni.

and the name of David goeth out into all the lands, and Jehovah hath put his fear on all the nations.
